Appeals Court Gives Google A Clear And Total Fair Use Win On Book Scanning
The Authors Guild’s never-ending lawsuit against Google for its book scanning project has been hit with yet another blow. The 2nd Circuit appeals court has told the Authors Guild (once again) that Google’s book scanning is transformative fair use.

Despite the fact that manufacturers try to use different colors to spice up the look of their devices, these days it’s just the same colors over and over again. So what about not having any color at all?
One poster on Reddit (Skarface08) has answered that question with their Samsung Galaxy Note 5. According to the poster, they simply scraped off the color film that’s applied to the back of the device, and then reapplied the back cover to the handset. With this done, you can actually see the inside of the handset, giving it a distinct mechanical look, and something admittedly quite different from the other Galaxy Note 5 units out there.
The process, according to Skarface08, is relatively simple enough. You’ll just need to have access to a heat gun, suction cup, and a razor blade. With those tools, you’ll heat up the back of the cover, use the suction cup to pry the backplate off the device, and then scrape off the color film. Once that’s done, just replace the backplate. The branding left behind is a nice touch, too.

Throttling data for those still attached to unlimited data plans isn’t anything new, and apparently Sprint wants to jump onto that bandwagon, too.
Based on an announcement made by the Now Network on October 16, the carrier will rollout a new policy, one that it calls “Quality of Service” (QoS). With this new policy, heavy data users that find themselves on a congested site will see their network speeds throttled for a brief period of time. They can regain their normal high-speed data if they leave the congested area or the network unclogs.
The threshold for data usage to even be considered for throttling is 23GB of data, which the carrier says is “typical in the industry.” Indeed, T-Mobile, another one of the few carriers that offers unlimited data, has its own cap for heavy data users while connected to a site that might be dealing with heavy traffic.
The rollout of the new policy begins today, October 16, and it will directly affect new subscribers that sign up for an unlimited data plan. Existing customers, on the other hand, will only see the policy go into place if they upgrade their phone and stick with the existing unlimited data plan.
As usual, this policy won’t have any bearing on the majority of the carrier’s subscribers, as the Now Network points out that only 3 percent of its total postpaid subscribers use a “overwhelmingly disproportionate” amount of data.

Si eres especial seguidor de los análisis estás de suerte, porque una vez más traemos otro producto y es nada menos que una tablet fabricada por la firma taiwanesa ASUS. Este dispositivo de 8 pulgadas destaca principalmente por su apartado estético, pero también es necesario comprobar qué tal se mueve en todas las pruebas que realizamos. Ahora sí, iniciamos la review para pasar la lupa por cada uno de los apartados y ofrecer nuestras valoraciones.
Comenzando por su tamaño no es de lo más contenido, pero gracias a sus 8 pulgadas encontramos unas dimensiones de 21 centímetros de alto, 12,3 de ancho y 8,5 de grosor, acompañados de 350 gramos que, sin duda alguna, invitan en todo momento a llevarla en tu mochila o bolso para el trabajo, la universidad o simplemente ocio en cualquier lugar.
Ahora repasemos su diseño, su principal punto positivo ya que luce sin materiales nobles un diseño de lo más llamativo gracias a que cuenta con un grabado en la parte posterior que le ofrece un acabado de calidad. También le acompañado un ribete metálico que rodea toda la superficie del dispositivo, un simple detalle pero de gran valor al resaltar aún más por su diseño.
Todos estaremos de acuerdo en que, sin entrar en pequeños detalles la nueva tablet de ASUS puede presumir de uno de los mejores diseños que se encuentran en la actualidad respecto a este tipo de dispositivos. No necesita ni siquiera acabado metálico, cristal ni similares, ya que haciendo uso de sus fantásticos accesorios es difícil de entrar un mejor candidato en este apartado.

Dejamos de lado su diseño para descubrir qué contiene en su interior, los componentes. Como ya hemos dicho, cuenta con una pantalla de 8 pulgadas, sí, pero es un panel IPS LCD a resolución HD que, sin contener la mayor definición del mercado luce de auténtica maravilla y más teniendo la posibilidad de calibrar múltiples parámetros de ella gracias al software integrado de ASUS.
Su procesador no es ni Snapdragon ni Exynos, ya que monta un poco habitual Intel Atom x3-C3200 de cuatro núcleos que le acompaña una GPU Mali-450MP4 y la posibilidad de escoger 1 o 2 GB de RAM, según la capacidad de almacenamiento que desees entre 8 o 16 GB.
Lamentablemente y a pesar de no contener una gran resolución, su rendimiento no es tan positivo como su aspecto físico, ya que en ocasiones de poca exigencia se aprecia cierta ralentización. Eso sí, en cualquier juego se comporta mucho mejor. Todo ello es mejorable, pero no olvidemos de qué dispositivo estamos hablando.
Al igual que ocurre con el rendimiento, no estamos tan satisfechos como quisiéramos y uno de los motivos es la capa de personalización Android. La misma en sí funciona perfectamente, de hecho dispone de un launcher muy completo y lleno de opciones de personalización.
El otro motivo no podía ser otro que las aplicaciones del fabricante. Sean necesarias o no trae instaladas de todo tipo, hasta tal punto que es difícil llegado el momento requerir de alguna de terceros salvo las más originales e irremplazables como WhatsApp o similares.

Se trata de un fantástico dispositivo apto para todos los públicos y bolsillos, pero que a nuestro pesar está sobrecargado de aplicaciones del fabricante y lastra el rendimiento de unos componentes que podrían dar mucho más de sí. Aún así, es de los mejores candidatos en su rango de precio.
Aspecto físico: Lo primero y lo mejor, sin ninguna duda es sorprendente la calidad que ha aplicado ASUS en la construcción y en el diseño tratándose de un producto económico.
Accesorios: Una vez más, al igual que el dispositivo el diseño y la funcionalidad de los accesorios es de primera, grandes aliados que no pasan desapercibidos y que aportan mucho por muy poco.
Cámara: No es un producto dirigido a la fotografía, pero a diferencia de otros el resultado es de muy mala calidad, algo esperable pero no hasta tal punto.
Software: Hay aplicaciones de mucho interés y uso habitual, pero la gran mayoría debemos hacer uso de la palabra bloatware, ya que muchas son bastante innecesarias y solo terminan por ensuciar la experiencia del usuario.
