How To Turn The Family-Friendly Univeral Studios Into A Gory Nightmare In Under An Hour

Universal Studios Orlando is about to undergo a stunning metamorphoses. As thousands of daytime patrons are cleared out of the park for the 5 pm closing, a small army of Universal employees bursts into action to transform the park into something else entirely: A massive immersive playground filled with hordes of zombies, vampires, masked murderers, and all sorts of other grotesques. 
“We try to have the entire park switched over in just over a half hour,” says Michael Aiello, the event’s creative director. “It’s a really tedious process. This is a working theme park during the day, so it requires a highly choreographed dance and a huge number of people to do it in a specific order as the lighting is switched out, the audio is switched out, and the fog machines are turned on.” 
This is Halloween Horror Nights, a 25-year-running seasonal event that sees the popular Florida theme park skinned into a massive Halloween party. On-site: Nine massively ambitious haunted houses (or “mazes”, as the park calls them), pedestrian pathways that have been transformed into themed “Scare Zones” filled with nightmarish characters, and easy access to rides that are kept open deep into the night. Depending on the date, the Halloween event operates as late as 2 am. 
In case there was any doubt: This isn’t for the kids. Some of the haunted houses are shockingly graphic, and the event feels more like a Halloween-themed Mardi Gras than a quiet day at the park, where alcohol flows freely from the on-site bars, which are enjoyed by thousands of horror-loving adults who have turned the traditional down season in between Summer and Christmas into a destination.

YouTube Gaming update lets you broadcast your mobile gameplay from Android

YouTube Gaming was announced as Google’s answer to Twitch back in June, and it finally launched this August letting you live stream your gaming sessions to eager viewers everywhere. One thing you couldn’t broadcast, however, were mobile games. Until now, that is.

A new update for YouTube Gaming now allows for streaming of mobile gameplay, if you’re on Android that is. You just use Mobile Capture on YouTube Gaming, and that’s it – you don’t need any additional hardware or software. After you tap on Go Live in the YouTube Gaming app, you can turn on your front-facing camera to record your commentary using your phone’s microphone.

This isn’t the only new thing launching for YouTube Gaming, though. Sponsorships now let you support the people creating the live streams you love. This is in beta for “a small group of creators”, who can receive monthly payments from fans in exchange for extra perks (such as a live chat badge chosen by the creator and access to exclusive chat sessions). The list of beta channels with this feature enabled will reportedly be expanded continuously.

More improvements are in too. It’s now easier to see when there are live streams for games in your collection, video bookmarking with Watch Later is simplified, performance has been improved, the YouTube Gaming homepage has been redesigned, and you can import existing YouTube subscriptions at any time through Settings. Finally, previous searches are remembered in the iOS app.

AT&T and T-Mo planning to let you use multiple devices under one phone number

AT&T has announced its plans for NumberSync, a service that will allow you to use multiple devices with one phone number. This doesn’t only apply to smartphones, either: AT&T says that everything from tablets to wearables can be used with your phone number.

The service will depend on your devices being connected to AT&T, so there won’t need to be a direct connection between your primary phone and other devices. Your primary phone can even be turned off. Your other devices will be able to make calls, check voicemail, and send texts using your regular number.

T-Mobile is following suit, announcing its own service to share one number across multiple devices. In classic T-Mo fashion, the company claims that its service will be far better than AT&T’s from day one. T-Mobile operating chief Mike Sievert said, “Our strategy is to ask customers what they want and need, and then build it. AT&T’s is to build or buy things, and then try to convince customers they asked for it.” This is despite AT&T announcing the same service first, but T-Mo has to make some sort of controversial statement, don’t they?

Sprint has announced that it is considering its own version of the service, though there is no official announcement.

This type of service sounds like a great idea and will free people from the constant connection to their phones. Forgetting your phone won’t be so bad soon. No launch dates have been given so far. What do you think of these services? Will you be using them whenever they launch? Leave a comment!

Fallout Shelter recibe una actualización con guardado en la nube, modo supervivencia y mucho más

Fallout Shelter es uno de los mejores videojuegos que ha llegado en este año en Android. Es algo innegable debido a la calidad que atesora y por esa forma de presentarnos la gestión de un refugio nuclear en el que debemos saber acoger a aquellos humanos que se encontraron con el holocausto nuclear sin quererlo ni beberlo.

Todo el saber buen hacer de Bethesda, uno de los mejores estudios de videojuegos del momento, se pasa a este Fallout Shelter que ahora recibe una actualización bien esperada por su legión de seguidores desde que pusiera el pie por primera vez en Android. Una serie de novedades que citamos a comentar debido a su importancia y por su conjunto de características que ofrecen más contenido a un juego de esos que enamoran y del que esperamos mucho más en siguientes actualizaciones, tal como es en esta misma.

Guardado en la nube y Modo supervivencia

De entre todas las características que enumeraremos a continuación, el guardado en la nube se encuentra como una de las más importantes, ya que podremos pasarlo de un dispositivo a otro sin tener que estar hurgando en la memoria interna para encontrar el susodicho archivo local que nos permita seguir jugando en nuestra tablet u otro teléfono.

Esto nos posibilita el llevar todas esas partidas allá donde queramos para que así podamos seguir evolucionando ese refugio que nos llama a cada poco tiempo para que pongamos orden y sepamos manejar a los nuevos integrantes.

Aparte de esta gran novedad contamos con un modo supervivencia que ofrece mayor contenido al juego para sacarle todo su jugo. Este nuevo modo significa más peligros y mayor gloria si somos capaces de sobrellevarlos para que así podamos incluso tener el mejor armamento y armaduras. Algo vital en este juego para poder defenderse de las acometidas que hacen los diferentes enemigos que asaltarán nuestro refugio nuclear.

La lista de novedades completa

Las siguientes características van hacia lo que serían unos nuevos elementos ocultos o misterios, con los que recibiremos recompensas de esas que tanto nos gustan para que nuestros “héroes”, aquellos que tienen el mayor nivel y el mejor equipo, obtengan armas de esas que ponen nervioso a cualquiera.

Hagamos un repaso de las novedades:

  • Capacidad para guardar las partidas y progresos en la nube para así poder jugar en otros dispositivos.
  • Nuevos elementos ocultos o misterios que esperan a ser descubiertos para así recibir recompensas interesantes
  • Nuevo modo de supervivencia que añade más contenido si cabe al juego en general
  • Opción para poder saquear los cadáveres de los saqueadores que atacan el refugio
  • Al crear una nueva partida, se puede saltar el tutorial de inicio
  • Estadísticas que miden el alcance y logros del refugio
  • Correcciones de bugs que dirigen a un mejor rendimiento y estabilidad en general

Una serie de novedades que ofrece mayor diversidad y contenido a este excelente juego de Bethesda, aunque hay que mencionar que de momento no se reciben las recompensas cuando se inicia sesión para guardar en la nube. Algo que no sucede en iOS, que reciben un nuevo habitante especial llamado Piper y lo que son cinco recompensas especiales. Suponemos que no tardarán mucho en actualizarlo para solucionarlo, así que estar atentos a la Play Store.

New Play Store design teased in photo of its evolution

The Play Store is soon getting a whole new look, and I’m really digging it. In a photo showing the evolution of the Play Store (or Android Market, as it was known in the early years) and how far the app has come, we can see how it’ll look come next major update. And of course, there are a few more photos teasing the new look.

We had some great times with the original Android Market. Updating apps all at once instead of having each download one by one was definitely fun, even though it failed quite often. Then it was rebranded the Play Store, and though some didn’t like the change, it worked out well for Google.

The latest evolution of the app features the same search bar, but changes everything else. The many categories offered before are now condensed into two tabs, which are apps and entertainment. It sure looks better, and the animations are quite snazzy, but we’ll have to give it a shot to see if it’s an overall good change. It also features RTL support!

Imágenes de “M”, el asistente virtual de Facebook, en acción

En caso de que no te hayas enterado hasta este momento, Facebook, una de las compañías tecnológicas con más tirón del momento, se ha unido a la moda de crear un asistente personal. Hace muy poco anunció M (abreviatura de Moneypenny, célebre personaje ficticio de las novelas de James Bond), asistente que proveerá un funcionalidad similar a la que ofrecen sistemas parecidos como Google Now, Siri o Cortana. No obstante, para diferenciarse de los demás, éste nuevo ayudante añadirá un toque humano a sus respuestas y a su comunicación con el usuario.

En este momento está siendo sometido a pruebas dentro de la aplicación Messenger de Facebook, y parece que algunos usuarios de este servicio han tenido el placer de testarlo en su versión beta. Han salido a la luz una miríada de capturas de pantalla que muestran al asistente M en plena acción, lo que nos da un entendimiento básico de algunas de las características de las que dispondrá. Parece que M será capaz de responder a nuestras respuestas con un alto porcentaje de acierto.

Por lo que podemos ver, M, es capaz de proporcionar información bastante útil y relevante al usuario cuando éste le proporciona los suficientes datos. En uno de los ejemplos que enseñamos, el asistente personal es incluso capaz de reservar un billete de avión a su usuario en una conversación de Messenger normal y corriente. También proporciona ayuda para pagar por los tickets directamente desde la aplicación, a la vez que crea un evento en el calendario para el día de los vuelos.

El asistente con inteligencia artificial de Facebook también puede investigar sobre puntos de interés cerca de tu zona, como restaurantes,lugares de ocio, cines, etc… e incluso podrá mostrarte capturas de pantalla de páginas de Yelp. Sí nos hemos dado cuenta de que M no puede llamar a un Uber o a un taxi, o al menos por el momento. Aparentemente, el asistente personal funciona sin supervisión directa de humanos, aunque haya sido entrenado por éstos.

A pesar de todo, parece que por el momento , M todavía no tiene ninguna característica que le permita procesar y entender el lenguaje humano natural, y es poco probable que obtenga esta funcionalidad. Aunque realmente tiene una pinta muy interesante, no llego a comprender el uso que se le puede dar a un asistente al que es necesario introducirle las órdenes por medio del teclado, cuando tú mismo podrías realizar esas acciones de forma relativamente sencilla. Pese a todo, nos encantaría probar M a fondo y contarte los resultados.

Otro factor que, personalmente, resulta preocupante es la cantidad de información que aplicaciones o asistentes de este tipo pueden terminar almacenando sobre nosotros. Puede resultar algo paranoico, pero no me gustaría que los datos de mis búsquedas o mis compras por internet sean cedidos a terceros para que que sepan exactamente lo que me gusta o disgusta.

Todavía no ha habido ninguna declaración por parte de Facebook en la que indique una fecha oficial para el lanzamiento de M, pero con un poco de suerte no tendremos que esperar demasiado. Mantente alerta si tienes la aplicación Messenger de Facebook, ya que puedes ser uno de los afortunados que reciban la beta.
