In this age of all things digital, it’s heartening to see that some aspects of human history are still best accessed via old fashioned cartography. That is, through what most of us would call maps — bound in atlases or hanging on someone’s office wall — encompassing everything from Mercator projections on classroom rollers to Apollo-era star charts torn from NASA notebooks.

Apple News for iOS 9 is not available to users in China

Apple News, one of the hot new features found in iOS 9 is not available to users in China. The Cupertino tech giant has reportedly pulled the plug on the service in the country, which is its second largest market behind only the United States.

The manufacturer has reportedly opted to block access to Apple News altogether, as opposed to trying to censor its content. The Chinese requirement has a set of censorship rules that foreign companies need to follow in order to do business in the country.

The News app’s deactivation in China affects even iOS users who visit the country from abroad. Apple has declined to officially comment on the subject.
