HTC One M8 GPe Android Marshmallow update planned for October

With Google’s Android Marshmallow update rolling out to its Nexus devices, many have been wondering when their Google Play edition phones would be updated to the latest version of Android. So far, only HTC has spoken up on the issue. HTC is currently working on the Android 6.0 update for the HTC One M8 GPe and plans to begin the software rollout before the end of the month.

As things stand now, it looks like we will likely only see Android Marshmallow updates made available for 2014 GPe devices. Those released in 2013 should still receive critical security updates, but you’ll have to hit up XDA-Developers if you want to get the latest Android treat up and running on your phone.

I Have A $3000 Gaming PC, But I’m Playing ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ On PS4

The Star Wars: Battlefront Beta launched this week, and you know what that means! It’s time to incite the console war and summon the #PCMasterRace evangelists by comparing the graphical fidelity of DICE’s shooter across PlayStation 4, Xbox  One, and PC. Digital Foundry has already crunched the pixels and found them to be lacking on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Specifically, Sony’s console runs the game at 900p (1600 x 900) while Microsoft’s latest hardware only aspires to previous-generation performance with a paltry 720p (1280 x 720). While the highlight of their piece is undeniably the fanboy meltdown that occurs in the comments section, they offer up some level-headed analysis that’s worth the read.

Descubre qué dispositivos Samsung Galaxy actualizarán primero a Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Soak test for Moto X Pure Edition starts soon, could be Android 6.0

Motorola has started sending surveys for a software soak test to owners of the Moto X Pure Edition (2015), which is basically the US version of the Moto X Style sold internationally.

Unfortunately the company isn’t saying what exact firmware update is the one that the soak test will be sent out for. However, it seems pretty likely that we’re talking about Android 6.0 Marshmallow, since no other new versions of the OS have come out from the time the phone was launched.

Soak tests are sent out by Motorola to people who sign up for them in order to make sure that its over-the-air rollouts are going to work flawlessly when a new update is then released for every device out there. They are also a good way to spot last minute bugs in the wild.

Of course, this could be nothing more than a security patch of some sort, but obviously given Motorola’s history of quick Android updates (especially for its unlocked high-end devices) there’s also a possibility that it is indeed the first step in pushing out a Marshmallow release for the Moto X Pure…

Unannounced handset from OnePlus shown off by the FCC

There’s an unannounced OnePlus-branded handset out there in the world, if the FCC is to be believed. The new device was revealed by the commission in a single photo, with very few details to go along with it.

As noted by PhoneScoop, the device differs quite a bit from previous handsets designed by the company, with this device boasting rounded edges on the top and bottom. And, as some will immediately notice, it does indeed have a familiar look to Apple’s iPhone there at the bottom. There’s an off-set camera near the top corner as well, which is a bit of a different design from the company.

As far as specs go, the FCC filing reveals that there’s a 1.9GHz processor under the hood, along with support for LTE and the usual suspects: Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radios and Bluetooth. The device name within the FCC is E1005, and there’s no direct information as to which operating system it’s running, but the likely event is Android, probably under a proprietary software.

It’s worth noting that OnePlus does have a media event planned for October 12, so it’s likely that this device will be the star of the show.
