Android Lollipop is now installed on 23.5% of devices
Last month, Lollipop finally crossed the 20% mark in Google’s Android distribution chart. That means that as of the beginning of September, 21% of all active Android devices ran one of the two versions called Lollipop.
One month later, Android 5.x keeps climbing, though it’s not a fast ascension, that’s for sure. In the just published chart for the beginning of October, Google reveals that 23.5% of all active Android devices now run Lollipop.
KitKat is down slightly, to 38.9% from 39.2% last month. The three iterations of Jelly Bean combined now have 30.2% market share, down from 31.8%. Ice Cream Sandwich falls to 3.4% from 3.7%, and Gingerbread goes to 3.8% from 4.1%. Oddly enough, Froyo is still stuck at 0.2% of installs, just as it was in September.
Older versions aren’t part of this report because it’s generated using data gathered from the new Play Store app, which only works on Android 2.2 Froyo or later. Next month we should see Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the chart for the first time, now that the new version is making its way to Nexus and Android One…

BLU Win HD LTE and Win JR LTE are now available in India
BLU Products has started selling two smartphones in India today. They both run Windows Phone 8.1 at the moment, but are promised to get updates to Windows 10 Mobile.
The BLU Win HD LTE and BLU Win JR LTE are already up for grabs at Amazon India, and they should be followed by some Android offerings from BLU in November. That’s also when we’ll see BLU feature phones launching in the subcontinent.
In the meantime, Windows Phone fans are going to be pleased. For INR 7,999 ($122 or 108), the BLU Win HD LTE (pictured above) delivers a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 2 MP selfie shooter, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, dual-SIM functionality, and a 2,500 mAh battery. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 SoC with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU.
The BLU Win JR LTE is even cheaper at INR 5,999 ($91, 81), and it comes with a 4.5-inch 480×854 touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, a VGA front-facing unit, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, dual-SIM support, and a 2,000 mAh battery. At the helm is the same chipset as in the Win HD LTE.

Twitter Moments lets you easily discover and follow news and events
Twitter has launched a major new feature today. It’s called Moments, it exists as a new tab in Twitter’s mobile apps or on its website, and it lets you easily follow what’s going on at any time.
Moments delivers the top news tweets in an easy to consume format. You’ll essentially find the most talked about stories of the day waiting for you to discover them through Moments. And everything that you see in Moments is independent of who you follow on Twitter.
Moments are categorized into News, Sports, Entertainment, and Fun. The stories you see are curated by Twitter along with select partners such as Bleacher Report, Buzzfeed, Entertainment Weekly, Fox News, Getty Images, Mashable, MLB, NASA, New York Times, Vogue, and the Washington Post.
The content in Moments is refreshed continuously throughout the day, and it features autoplaying videos, Vines, and GIFs, as well as big, immersive images. You can easily share a story you find in Moments, by tweeting it to your followers.
For certain things, such as sporting events or award shows, you’ll get the option to blend the content in Moments into your timeline, so you’ll be as up to date as possible.

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact en análisis: el gran exponente al mejor terminal compacto del año
Es el turno y el día señalado para, alabar o bien criticar a un terminal cuya firma cada año pone el listón más alto, incorporando mayor calidad y características a sus dispositivos. Sí, has acertado, hablamos de Sony con sus nuevas apuestas justo antes de terminar el año, que no son otros que la nueva familia Xperia Z5, y que concretamente analizamos su versión reducida pero formidable, el Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.
Como es habitual, vamos a repasar los detalles más importantes, tanto el exterior como el interior y sacar nuestras propias valoraciones según la relación calidad/precio del dispositivo, su segmento y conocer si realmente es un fuerte exponente en la gama alta. ¡Comenzamos!
Especificaciones técnicas
Iniciamos valorando su aspecto físico y el tamaño, el cual nos ha dejado una sensación muy positiva realmente por lo compacto que es, presumiendo de unos marcos y porcentaje de pantalla en el frontal bastante acertado y sin duda muy conseguido teniendo en cuenta su tamaño.
Los materiales, como no, son nobles al igual que otras generaciones, aunque con un importante cambio para afrontar los tan habituales arañazos que padecía el terminal en su parte trasera. La solución ha sido la inclusión del cristal esmerilado, que sin contar con una resistencia mayor el acabado y sensaciones son mucho más positivas y podemos decir adiós a los arañazos que sufría con el tiempo de uso.
Y este, a diferencia de sus hermanos mayores, tiene la posibilidad de personalizar y adaptarse a los gustos del usuario gracias a que dispone de una atractiva gama de colores, entre los que podemos escoger como el blanco, coral, amarillo o negro.
Haciendo hincapié a los detalles de su cuerpo, encontramos claras mejoras, novedades y correcciones principalmente en los laterales. Aunque Sony mantiene los botones laterales y el acertado a la vez que dedicado para la cámara, el botón de desbloqueo ahora adquiere un mayor tamaño para mejorar su accesibilidad, a la par que la seguridad, ya que tras él se encuentra un lector de huellas dactilares que sin duda alguna funciona a las mil maravillas.
Por el resto prácticamente las mismas ubicaciones para el conector jack, el USB y la ubicación de la cámara. Sin embargo, la sensación de la tapa que oculta las ranuras de la SIM y la microSD es mucho mejor respecto a la anterior generación, tanto por su sencillez de apertura y cierre como por la seguridad que transmite de no filtrar ni agua ni polvo gracias a su certificación IP68.

Sin duda alguna con la hoja de especificaciones reconocemos lo tope de gama que es el terminal. No por compacto significa humilde, todo lo contrario, presume de unos componentes de alto rendimiento que ofrecerán una experiencia de usuario fluida y capaz de mover las más exigentes aplicaciones y juegos, gracias a su Snapdragon 810 y Adreno 430.
Respecto a su panel, una vez más encontramos una calidad sin parangón, tanto por ser tipo IPS como por las tecnologías exclusivas de Sony como son Triluminos y X-Reality Engine, dejando totalmente de lado su resolución ya que, en sus 4,6 pulgadas no necesita ni Full HD y mucho menos Quad HD.
La cámara, y menuda cámara, ya que si fuera poco sus 23 megapíxeles capaces de capturar fotografías a resolución 5520 x 4140 píxeles, incluye autofoco, detección de cara y HDR entre muchas más funciones. Los resultados, sin ninguna duda, son equiparables a uno de los mejores, por no decir el mejor sensor montado en un smartphone hasta la fecha, capaz de sacar pecho tanto a plena luz del día como en ambientes nocturnos. Puedes estar seguro que disfrutarás de una experiencia fotográfica sin igual.
Todo ello no sería posible sin una amplia batería de 2,700 mAh, que basándonos en las pruebas realizadas podemos decir con total seguridad que es mucho más que suficiente para cualquier uso, sea menos o más intensivo. Además, contamos con Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 que, en aproximadamente una hora y media conseguiremos el cien por cien para seguir aprovechando todas las bondades de este dispositivo.

El tamaño no lo es todo, pues el Sony Xperia Z5 Compact es el claro ejemplo que la potencia no está reñida a sus dimensiones. Es sobresaliente en todo, tanto en su aspecto físico como el hardware y todas las características y añadidos implementados, sistema operativo incluido. Sin lugar a dudas, uno de los mejores si no el mejor smartphone compacto del año.

Aspecto físico: El cristal esmerilado es un añadido que puede pasar desapercibido pero que es una sensación única y muy positiva, un añadido único e indispensable.

Batería: Modo Stamina, Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 y su optimizada capa junto a Lollipop hacen que, gracias a su resolución y panel obtengamos una fantástica cantidad de horas de pantalla más que suficiente para llegar al final del día.

Cámara: La palabra es excelente y no podemos decir otra, tanto de día, como de noche, sea el plano que sea se comporta de maravilla. Y si lo tuyo es la fotografía, tienes un potente aliado e incluso sustituto a la clásica cámara de fotos.

Grosor: Es compacto pero no contenido, y aunque no es una mala experiencia se agradecería reducir ligeramente el grosor para conseguir un menor peso y mejor sensación en la mano.

Botonera: A pesar de la gran novedad del lector de huellas y el botón de mayor tamaño, su posición en la parte derecha del terminal dificulta en gran medida la interacción a aquellas personas zurdas que su uso está lamentablemente algo limitado en según qué ocasiones, ésta una de ellas.

Velocidad de obturación: Será la aplicación, será el software, la animación o el propio sensor pero la velocidad de captura es mejorable, ya que hablamos de un terminal tope de gama con semejante calidad fotográfica.

Twitter introduces Moments, a quick way to see Twitter’s instant highlights
At Twitter, the team is constantly looking for new ways to keep users engaged. The company recently rolled out Highlights and While You Were Away features that help bring users up to speed with relevant content that they may have missed while not using Twitter for longer periods of time. Now the company has rolled out a new feature that will help users see “the best of Twitter in an instant.”
Moments is a new addition to Twitter that brings the most popular and important content and topics of Twitter to one place that’s updated all day long. Moments isn’t based on who you follow, but rather what’s happening and developing on Twitter. A Moment will bring in tweets, vines, GIFs and more to one hub that can be swiped through to keep up with major situations and events. For those situations that develop quickly, such as a sports game, there will be an option to follow the Moment, which will blend the latest tweets from the Moment right into your timeline for the duration of the Moment.
As far as new features go, Moments is a surprisingly great one. One of the common complaints of Twitter is that there’s too much going on and that it’s impossible to keep up. Twitter says that it spoke with users who didn’t regularly use the service and used their feedback to create Moments. What came of that strategy is a useful feature that will appeal to both old and new Twitter users alike, creating a better social network for all.

Google Creative Labs releases pretty and useful live wallpaper called Meter
Google Creative Labs has released a few weird apps in the past, though I don’t think I could call them truly useful. But the latest app the team has released is a live wallpaper, and surprisingly, it’s pretty useful.
Meter is just that: a live wallpaper that shows a meter that you select. The ball is battery life, and as your battery dies, the ball inside shrinks. The triangle is signal strength, which moves up and down with, you guessed it, signal strength. The third is notifications, which has rectangles representing how many notifications you currently have.
Not only does it show pretty useful information, but it also features gyroscope support, so moving your device around moves the wallpaper around. It’s quite cool and it’s free, so hit the source link to check it out!
