Google Finds That ‘Butt Dials’ Are Serious Problem For 9-1-1 Emergency Responders

(Ferenstein Wire) – Emergency dispatchers are now flooded with muffled calls and don’t know whether they are frantic victims unable to speak or accidental “butt” dials. Google presented new research finding that roughly 30% of wireless calls to emergency services are accidental. “Dedicated and hard-working public safety officials who answer and respond to Americans in times of need are being inundated by accidental wireless calls to 911,” wrote Federal Communications Commissioner Michael O’Rielly in a memo last year that called attention to the rather bizarre smartphone-driven problem.
