OnePlus Mini specs leak, include NFC

The rumored OnePlus Mini is gaining some steam, with a few leaks about the hardware specifications of the device popping up. The latest leak gives some pretty impressive specs for the $250 price point, but OnePlus fans might be pretty upset by the inclusion of NFC.

The device could be powered by either a Snapdragon 801 or a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, with the latest info leaning towards the latter. And allegedly, MediaTek will release the kernel source. There will also be 2GB of RAM, 32GB of memory with a microSD card, a 5-inch IPS 1080p display, a 13MP rear camera with dual tone flash, a 5MP front wide angle camera, a 3000-3100 mAh battery, a USB Type-C port, an IR blaster, a front facing speaker, and of course, NFC.

There will also be IP67 dust and water resistance, which is a nice touch for a budget phone. And it’ll have MediaTek MiraVision, which allows the processor to render games at 720p and upscale it to 1080p to get around the low-end GPU’s limitations.

The lack of NFC in the latest OnePlus 2, a device more expensive than the Mini, was a disappointment. OnePlus claims that sacrifices had to be made to achieve that price point, so it’s a bit of a slap to the face for OnePlus 2 owners if the Mini comes out with NFC. Otherwise, the device seems very solid.

Are you interested in the OnePlus Mini? It should launch late this year if you are. And if you’re a OnePlus 2 owner, would you be mad if the Mini featured NFC? Leave a comment!

LG G2 gets benchmarked with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board

Just a few days ago LG led us to believe that the G3 and G4 would be getting updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow pretty soon, since the Korean company has already referenced them in its support documents for the devices.

And now, in a surprising development, it looks like the older G2 could be receiving the latest version of Android as an update at some point in the future. The G2 is already two years old so this would be unexpected for its owners.

An LG G2 running Android 6.0 has been seen in the database of Geekbench, one of the most well-known benchmarks for Google’s mobile OS. So someone is clearly testing such an update. Of course, even if this is real (such benchmark runs aren’t impossible to fake), LG could simply give up on the thought of bringing Marshmallow to the G2 in the future. So don’t get your hopes up just yet.

LG hasn’t been a fan of Android 5.1, as it hasn’t updated either the G3 or the G2 to this release, so perhaps the company wants to skip that iteration of the OS and jump straight to 6.0.

Microsoft Surface tablets will be sold in India starting in February 2016

According to two separate reports coming in today, Microsoft has decided to take its Surface line of tablets to India. Sales of the Surface devices in the subcontinent are apparently set to start in February 2016.

That’s still quite far off, but at least the software giant is rumored to be taking all of its Surface models to India – including the Surface Pro 4 that could become official at an event tomorrow. The Surface Pro 3 will be offered alongside it.

The tablets will be sold at Microsoft Priority stores across the country. These have previously been known as Nokia Priority stores, but have been rebranded recently, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s mobile device business. The Priority stores currently sell Lumia handsets and they also showcase Windows 10 laptops from other manufacturers, in a bid to popularize the latest version of Microsoft’s OS and its associated ecosystem.
