Google releases brand new Wallet app; old one will become Android Pay

Google has released a new, completely redesigned Wallet app. Dubbed Google Wallet (New), the app connects with your debit card or bank account, and lets you send money to anyone in the US for free, even if they don’t have an existing Wallet account.

Of course, you can also send money from your Wallet Balance. The new app will also allow you to manage your Google Wallet Card.

But what’s up with the old Google Wallet app? Well, it will be updated to Android Pay “in the next few days,” according to the app’s description page on Google Play. Using Android Pay, you’ll be able to pay in stores and at terminals, store gift cards and promotional offers, and more.

New Google Wallet app launches with new UI

Google has decided to update the look and function of the Google Wallet app, but instead of updating the old app, Google just made a new one. This new Google Wallet app can be downloaded separately and won’t overwrite your current one, so you’ll have to hit the source link to check it out.

Like the old app, you can send and receive money as well as manage your Google Wallet card. But this one has a new UI featuring the color of cash, which replaces the old blue interface.

What will happen to the old app? Google says that it will be updated to Android Pay, like to get it out to everyone while Google Wallet takes a backseat as a new app. This means Android Pay will be launching in just a few days. Let us know how you like the new app!

About year ago this blog ran a post called “5 more things China hasn’t changed in 5 years.” Suddenly everything is changing. Economic growth that steers much of the world’s trade and finance will slow to 7% this year from an official 7.3% last year, per an Asian Development Bank forecast. The yuan currency weakened 3.5% in August against the U.S. dollar, a hit to importers. Share prices on the benchmark Shanghai index have dropped almost 2,000 points since a historic peak in June because investors distrust stocks as well as China’s economic pivot from reliance on heavy industry to services and domestic consumption.

VMworld 2015 Postmortem: Enterprise IT In Flux, But Can VMware Sell Its Cloud?

The announcements out of VMworld 2015 were less significant than its overarching theme of hybrid cloud. In VMware’s vision, hybridization means tightly coupled public and private clouds in which applications seamlessly migrate between the two. Yet this could be a strategic mistake, since I think VMware overestimates the utility of a tightly coupled hybrid design, while underestimating the implementation complexity for the majority of companies that don’t buy into its vCloud-everywhere approach. Organizations clearly like the idea of cloud heterogeneity. Indeed, VMware’s prior success popularizing enterprise server virtualization and resulting legacy customer base may be hampering its ability to contend with agile and innovative public cloud services.

Apple promo video appears to confirm that iPhone 6s features 1,715 mAh battery

It looks like Apple accidentally revealed that the freshly announced iPhone 6s features 1,715 mAh battery. The component was revealed in the Cupertino giant’s promo video for the smartphone.

This means that the new iPhone 6s features a smaller battery than its predecessor, iPhone 6, which offers a 1,810 mAh solution. However, despite the smaller unit, Apple claims that iPhone 6s will offer similar battery endurance as the model it replaces, thanks to more efficient CPU and iOS 9.

A smaller battery in the new iPhone is hardly a surprise. Even though it looks the same as the outgoing model, iPhone 6s features rearranged internals that accommodate the new tech it offers. We reckon that some of the new components required the change in battery…
