Sayonara to the stereotype of the unsociable male anime nerd. According to data from six of the largest conventions for anime fans—people who love cartoons from Japan—attendees exist in more diverse identities than any mainstream media representation would suggest.
After reading that San Diego Comic-Con International attracted an equal number of men and women in 2014, I reached out to the 10 largest anime conventions in North America for their 2014 stats. Six responded, and you can see their data compiled in a handy chart:At a quick glance, it’s apparent that male and female attendance has reached almost 50-50. Attribute it to the fact that cartoons, comics, and videogames from Japan attract a wide audience. Cartoons can be directed at adults or kids or both, with some shows targeted at women (like Sailor Moon), and others more generally at men.
“Most of is due to the accessibility and the breadth of topics that are addressed within anime and manga,” an Anime Central spokesperson said. “There is something for everyone, and often anime and manga address topics that are taboo in modern society. They address everything from social etiquette to general life skills they teach about struggles and overcoming adversity. Most importantly, they spark the imagination, and that has no gender bias.”
Furthermore, an increasing number of anime conventions institute anti-harassment policies, which mean fans of any identity can feel safe, further incentivizing them to attend.

“Due to our strict anti-harassment policies and making it part of our mission to make the environment as safe as possible, more people feel comfortable coming,” said Faisal Ahmed, the Chairman of Anime Weekend Atlanta.
The largest convention on the chart is Los Angeles-based Anime Expo, with 86,000 attendees, and the smallest is Montreal’s Otakuthon, with 17,600 attendees in 2014. The conventions are listed in order of their size clockwise beginning from the top left.

Not all of the conventions took the same data. Otakuthon, Anime Expo, and Anime Central said that registration is digital, and their registration software allows only binary gender input, meaning it offers only “male” and “female” options. In a world where even Facebook offers options for nonbinary genders which fall outside of “male” and “female” gender identities, standard event registration software isn’t keeping up with the times.
“Our software doesn’t collect nonbinary data for gender, we do word it however as gender of which you identify with,” an Anime Central spokesperson said.
Otakon, Anime Boston, and Anime Weekend Atlanta were able to collect “other” gender data, for attendees who fall elsewhere on the gender spectrum, by providing written surveys for them to fill out. However, this meant not every attendee filled out the survey. In the case of Anime Boston’s survey, nonbinary gender data was grouped with attendees who preferred not to list their gender at all, which is why I gave it its own color on the infographic legend.

Of the four conventions that do not appear on this chart, two responded to my query but said they do not currently collect gender data. Seattle’s Sakura-Con has not done a gender survey in five years, while Toronto’s Anime North doesn’t conduct them at all.

We’ve already heard quite a few things about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Mega On. It seems like it will be part of a new O-series of smartphones from the Korean maker, along with the Grand On. These are supposed to be the two models that will debut the new line.
They’ve already entered India for testing purposes, and last month we’ve even heard a rumor detailing their specs. Now someone decided to put the Mega On through the paces of the GeekBench benchmark for Android, and this has helpfully confirmed a couple of its specs.
The Galaxy Mega On that was tested has the model number SM-G6000, and it runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop at the moment. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 SoC, just as previously leaked, but the RAM amount seems to only be 1GB. This is contrary to the 1.5GB that was rumored so far.
Other specs aren’t part of the benchmark’s hardware information section, but going by past leaks the Mega On should sport a 5.5-inch 720p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front shooter, 8GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Samsung nos sorprendió adelantando la presentación del Samsung Galaxy Note 5. El fabricante coreano solía aprovechar el entorno de la IFA de Berlín par presentar su nueva generación de phablets, pero esta vez no fue así: Samsung presentó antes el Galaxy Note 5 para adelantarse al lanzamiento del iPhone 6s y 6s Plus y rascar unas cuantas ventas a su principal competidor.
No sabemos si le habrá salido bien la jugada al fabricante, pero sí que os podemos garantizar que el Samsung Galaxy Note 5 es un gran teléfono. Hoy os traemos un análisis en vídeo del nuevo caballo de batalla de la gama de phablets de Samsung para que veáis todos los secretos del Galaxy Note 5.
Como era de esperar el diseño del Samsung Galaxy Note 5 es muy semejante al del Galaxy S6 / S6 edge. Sus acabados son igual de buenos: un cuerpo de una sola pieza con doble protección Gorilla Glass 4 y un marco de aluminio que le da ese toque premium que tanto nos gusta.
Viendo el análisis en vídeo que hacemos del Samsung Galaxy Note 5, queda claro que el fabricante coreano ha puesto toda la carne en el asador para que este dispositivo cuaje en el mercado: agradable al tacto, robusto y ligero.

Tras los innumerables problemas por hacerse con un ejemplar del OnePlus One, la compañía china aseguró que con el nuevo sistema de invitaciones el stock del OnePlus 2 sería desde 30 hasta 50 veces mayor con tal de facilitar la llegada del terminal a sus compradores, pero no ha sido así.
Aún con el supuesto aumento de stock, el OnePlus 2 ha sufrido retrasos y no ha llegado tan rápido a los usuarios como debía, o mejor dicho como prometían en un primer momento. Por tanto, Carl Pei, CEO de OnePlus se ha disculpado y ha tomado medidas necesarias para contentar a las masas, y en cierto modo lo ha hecho.
Aunque tengas invitación y estés en lista de espera para adquirir el flamante OnePlus 2, la compañía asegura que durante una hora en algún día concreto a final de este mismo mes –sin fecha confirmada–, será posible hacerse con él si tienes la suerte de realizar el pedido en su página.
Esto, aunque es positivo dado el escaso tiempo que lleva el terminal en venta con las polémicas invitaciones, de nuevo y como otras veces generará una avalancha de usuarios que intentarán acceder a la tienda oficial de OnePlus y bloquearán el acceso a la misma, obligando a un gran número de ellos a prescindir a pesar de las ventas abiertas.
De hecho, una hora es insuficiente para la cantidad de millones de personas que están a la espera de recibirlo o incluso con la invitación pendiente y sin poder usarse. En todo caso, debería haber sido un plazo de al menos dos o tres horas para asegurar la compra, pero estamos más que seguros que OnePlus no puede asumir tal volumen de pedidos, por lo que es limitado a una escasa hora.
Pues actualmente se desconoce, lo único que mencionan es algún que otro día a finales de este mismo mes. Por tanto, estaremos más que pendientes del blog oficial de OnePlus, en el que el propio Carl Pei debería anunciar oficialmente el día y hora.
En cuanto tengamos más información, tener por seguro que lo publicaremos, además de concretar las horas según cada región.

OnePlus loves its teases, and now the company is back with another one, this time teasing something a bit more “luxurious” than anything that has come before. Of course, as is the case with the company’s teases in the past, there’s not much to go on, but there is a blurry image accompanying a catchy tagline.
The image’s bottom section is clear enough, showing what looks to be something leather. The safe bet at this point would be to suggest that OnePlus has a leather back plate coming down the pipe. Considering the OnePlus 2 features StyleSwap covers in a variety of materials, including wood and kevlar, a leather option is certainly possible. And, with other leather options already available from other companies, probably an easy guess.
The main teaser image, as shown above, suggests that it’s a “bit of welcome luxury,” while the company is teasing more directly with a caption that reads,” Something luxurious is coming to OnePlus. What could it be?”
