Not much more than 100 years ago, the ice industry was a major component of the U.S. industrial economy, contributing $660 million (in today’s dollars) to the GDP and employing 90,000 people, more than the total population of good-sized cities like Albany, Atlanta and Nashville. In the early part of the 20th century, ice went through what appeared to be its “disruption” (probably Ye Olde Techcrunch called it “FrostTech” or something at the time), where the industry shifted from natural ice (literally, I sh*t you not, chopping blocks out of lakes and shipping it coated in sawdust) to manufactured ice, made in industrial scale factories.

Snapchat has a brand new revenue stream.

Users of the Venice, Calif.-based messaging service can now purchase “Replays” of disappearing photo and video “snaps” they receive on the app, the company said in a blog post on Tuesday. Replays, priced at three for 99 cents, represent the first time users can spend money in the app. Snapchat still gives users one free replay per day, a feature it introduced about two years ago. However, a snap can only be replayed once. “They’re a little pricey — but time is money!,” the company said in its post.

In most interview situations there’s often an odd, sometimes disturbing imbalance, and it boils down to one word: power. Who has it, who doesn’t. Typically it’s the interviewer who has more power, because they’re the ones deciding who should get the job and who shouldn’t. On the flip side, a candidate who is confident he or she is the best person for the job — and has multiple offers to back up that confidence — may also have that power, resulting in them being nonchalant, cavalier, or even arrogant during the interview.

Microsoft announced an event coming up in October focused on Windows 10 devices. Microsoft is expected to reveal the new Surface Pro 4 and possibly an updated Microsoft Band along with Windows 10 smartphones. One device that might be unveiled in New York next month is the rumored Surface Phone.
