Large Samsung Galaxy View tablet gets teased
Last month we heard a rather outlandish claim – that Samsung is working on bringing to market a tablet with a whopping 18.4-inch touchscreen. Not long after that, a new report seemingly confirmed the information. What’s more, this also brought us a list of leaked specs for the gigantic device.
And today Samsung itself may have confirmed its existence, while also revealing what it will be called. At the end of its press conference focused on the Gear S2, the Korean company outed a very short teaser for the Galaxy View tablet.
No other details, aside from its looks and name, have been made public at this point. So we should probably expect those to come at some point in the (hopefully near) future. This type of teasing isn’t actually new for Samsung – when it introduced the Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ in August the Gear S2 smartwatch got the same treatment.
If what you see pictured above is in fact the rumored 18.4-inch tablet, then it should come with a 1080p touchscreen, a 64-bit Exynos 7580 chipset with 1.6 GHz octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, an 8 MP rear camera, a 2.1 MP front-facing unit, and a 5,700 mAh battery. First leaked teaser picture of Xiaomi Mi 5 suggests a fingerprint scanner
Xiaomi Mi 5 name popped up quite a few times throughout the last year and yet it is still under wraps. The most recent leak from AnTuTu’s result database spilled the beans on the power of its chipset – suggesting either a new generation of Snapdragon 810 or 820, or perhaps the latest MediaTek Helio X20 with ten-core tri-cluster processor.
Anyway the rest of the rumors united around a 5.3″ Quad HD display, 4 gigs of RAM and a 16MP OIS camera. USB Type-C port completes the rumor roundup.
Today, we got a supposedly leaked teaser image of the Xiaomi Mi 5. It reveals pretty much nothing but the possibility of a fingerprint scanner.

Calligra 2.9.7, la rival de LibreOffice que cada vez coge más terreno

Ya tenemos disponible la nueva versión de la suite de KDE, Calligra 2.9.7. Una suite que cuenta con grandes correcciones y algunas novedades sobre todo en el manejo de los programas que componen esta suite. La hoja de cálculo, Kexi, el gestor de base de datos y Krita son los programas que más han cambiado dentro de la última versión de la rama 2.9.
La hoja de cálculo ha mejorado bastante en cuanto a manejo, ahora la selección e introducción de datos en la hoja de cálculo de Calligra 2.9.7 es más fácil y menos problemática. También los iconos por defecto se han modificado para que esté al tamaño estándar de 14 píxeles.
Kexi también ha cambiado algunos elementos y funciones como la mejora en la importación de archivos csv o la reparación de claves. Además se ha solucionado el problema que hacía guardar las consultas realizadas de manera forzosa sin dar alternativa a cerrar sin guardar.
Calligra 2.9.7 será la última versión hasta la próxima versión 3
Pero Krita es tal vez el programa que más trabajo ha tenido ya que no sólo ha corregido más de 150 bugs sino que también ha mejorado la interacción con Gimp, algo necesario para aquellos que hacen más trabajo más allá de Photoshop. Además Krita mejora la transición y uso de archivos psd, algo que aún no es igual que la propia Photoshop pero que si ha mejorado sustancialmente y seguirá mejorando.
Calligra 2.9.7 ya está disponible para Gnu/Linux y para Windows. Una alternativa más a la privativa suite de Microsoft. Sin embargo, hasta la próxima versión, hasta la versión 3.0 no se verán grandes cambios en los programas por lo que si realmente no se tiene problema con Calligra, lo mejor es esperar a la próxima versión que saldrá a finales de este año como se especifica en la web oficial del proyecto.
Para aquellos que utilicen una base de datos, puede que Calligra 2.9.7 sea mejor opción que otras suites ofimáticas ya que su compatibilidad con Office es mayor, ahora bien, tanto Calligra como todos los programas que lo componen son Software Libre por lo que podremos utilizar, probar y decidir sin problema alguno.

Acer Liquid Z: los nuevos terminales gamas media llegan al IFA
El IFA de este año nos está mostrando algunos fabricantes realmente activos en la presentación de sus nuevas gamas de productos. Aunque de Acer ya hemos hablado en nuestro blog, en este caso lo hacemos para presentarte la que es su gama media de smartphones, los Acer Liquid Z que acaban de ser recientemente renovados. En total, hay seis terminales que vienen a sustituir a los que ya conoces y llegan con una serie de características y especificaciones que cumplen a la perfección con lo que exigen los usuarios de este segmento.
La nueva gama Acer Liquid Z incluye 5 terminales con Android y otro funcionando con el sistema operativo Windows Phone. Parece que Acer quiere apostar por lo más nuevo de Redmon, pero tampoco está dispuesta a abandonar el sistema más utilizado en todo el mundo y a perder el sitio que ya se había ganado anteriormente dentro de la gama media. Aunque vamos a hacer mención al que se presenta con Windows, nos centraremos en los móviles Android que entendemos son los que nuestros lectores querrán comprar.
Acer Liquid Z630 y Z630S
Estos son los terminales más altos de gama dentro de la gama media recién presentada por Acer. Se trata de los dos teléfonos que rodarán con el Android más reciente. Saldrán al mercado con Android 5.1. Entre las características que definen al modelo Acer Liquid Z630 nos encontramos con una pantalla de 5 pulgadas, procesador MediaTek MT6735 de 4 núcleos, 2GB de memoria RAM, 16GB de memoria de almacenamiento y dos cámaras con 8MP cada una. Al mismo tiempo, su batería será de 4000 mAh y vendrán con LTE4.
El Acer Liquid Z630S es idéntico en cuanto al diseño y comparte la mayor parte de las especificaciones. De hecho, solo es de gama superior por sus 3G de RAM y los 32 GB que vienen como memoria de almacenamiento interno. Apto para los que quieren el máximo sin renunciar a un gama media.
Acer Liquid Z530 y Z530S
Si tuviésemos que definir a esta gama habría que decir que es una versión un tanto reducida del anterior, aunque con matices. De hecho, su cámara frontal de 8MP con un gran angular de 84 grados, le convierte en el mejor amigo de los que quieren hacer selfies. En cuanto a las características técnicas el LTE4 está presente, así como las mismas características de la gama ZTE 630. El almacenamiento en este caso baja y se ofrece en dos opciones de 8 y 16 GB para el modelo Acer Liquid Z530. Si quieres más que eso, te puedes quedar con los que ofrece el Z530S, precisamente idénticos al hermano mayor, es decir, 3GB y 32GB de memoria de almacenamiento.
Acer Liquid Z330 y M330
Se trata de los modelos de gama más baja de entre todos los presentados por Acer. En este caso, las especificaciones que comparten son idénticas, pero el Z330 rueda con Android, mientras que el M330 lo hace con Windows Phone. Las especificaciones compartidas son pantalla de 4,5 pulgadas a 854×480 pixeles, procesador Qualcomm Snapdragon 210, 1GB de RAM y 8GB de memoria de almacenamiento. Sus dos cámaras son de 5MP, y al mismo tiempo, tienen también LTE4.

Barnes & Noble latest Nook tablet is based off the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
Barnes & Noble announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nook slate with 8″ Super AMOLED display. Long story short – it’s a plain Tab S2 8.0 with some Nook goodies pre-installed.
The slate offers an 8″ Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution and is powered by an octa-core processor, courtesy of the Exynos 5433 SoC. It has an 8MP rear camera, 32GB expandable storage and a 4,000 mAh battery.
The Nook flavor of the slate costs $399.99, but B&N members receive 10% discount. What you get with this Tab S2 Nook is three free books from a selection of 20 titles, three free magazines and $5 Nook credit. Naturally all necessary Nook software and services come pre-installed.
If you thought of replacing your old high-end Nook tablet, the thin and lightweight Galaxy Tab S2 Nook seems like a very good successor for sure.

LG G4 Note could be released on October 10
For quite a while now, LG has been rumored to be preparing a new flagship smartphone, one to launch in the latter half of this year. Recently some of the previously leaked details about it, such as having a premium metal build, have been refuted – but it looks like it’s coming nevertheless.
It could be called G4 Pro or G4 Note, depending on which rumor you’re more inclined to believe. The handset may top the ‘vanilla’ G4 when it comes to specs.
A new report from LG’s native South Korea now tells us that this new LG model will be released on October 10. That date could only apply to that market, keep in mind. Apparently the timeline has been revealed at an LG briefing, by a company official no less.
We don’t get any rumored specs this time around. The device should have a removable battery, rear-mounted power and volume buttons, and may even sport a stylus. But few things have been conclusively uttered about this phone, so the G4 Pro or G4 Note is still very much a mystery at this point. Though if it will be out next month, expect to hear a lot more about it in the coming weeks.
