Motorola Bounce será lo próximo de la marca americana, un teléfono “irrompible”

Si bien no corren buenos tiempos para Motorola, con la más que posible desaparición de los terminales Lenovo, los americanos –o lo que quiera que sean tras la compra por parte de los chinos– no se desaniman. Sus últimos modelos nos dejaron tanto con buenas y malas sensaciones a partes iguales, a pesar de que el Motorola Moto G 2015 se ha vuelto a convertir en uno de los mejores gama media –otra vez–.

Pero Motorola tiene un nuevo as bajo la manga. No sabemos muy bien que pretenden conseguir tras lanzar el Motorola Moto X Style y Play, los supuestamente gama alta de la firma, pero tendremos nuevo smartphone de la marca, probablemente a finales de este año, durante el mes de diciembre.

Se llamará Motorola Bounce, o por lo menos ese es su nombre en clave. Un smartphone que los chicos de GSMArena destripan como un teléfono de 5,43 pulgadas QHD, Snapdragon 810, 3 GB de memoria RAM y dos versiones de almacenamiento, 32 y 64 GB. Vendrá acompañado de una cámara trasera de 21 megapíxeles y otra delantera de 5 megapíxeles, sin olvidarnos de una increíble batería de 3.760 mAh –760 mAh más que el Motorola Style–.

El nombre de Bounce puede ser relativo. Su traducción literal es “rebotar”, por lo que posiblemente estemos ante un terminal muy resistente, irrompible como algunos medios ya lo han calificado. Un verdadero gama alta que esperemos no se limite a ciertos mercados, como ya ha hecho –desgraciadamente– Motorola en más de una ocasión.

Así que si alguno de vosotros está pensando en adquirir un tope de gama de la marca Motorola, puede ser interesante que se espere a final de año, siempre y cuando no le corra prisa. Por supuesto, estas características irán acompañadas de un precio mayor que el de sus hermanos, y todo ello a pesar de que el presidente de Motorola dijo en su momento, que los días de los teléfonos de 600-700 dólares están contados.

Ya disponible la nueva versión de Manjaro Fluxbox

Manjaro Fluxbox 0.8.13.1

Hace unas horas que tenemos a nuestra disposición una nueva versión de Manjaro Fluxbox, en concreto la versión Manjaro Fluxbox 0.8.13.1, una versión que actualiza uno de los sabores más famosos de Manjaro.

Cómo bien sabéis Manjaro es una distribución que se basa en ArchLinux y que se caracteriza por ser un sistema funcional y liviano, dando oportunidad a escritorios más ligeros pero menos famosos. 

Desde que Crunchbang dejó de desarrollarse, Manjaro ha ocupado su lugar ya que además de usar Openbox, Manjaro usa otros gestores de ventanas y configuraciones que permite su adecuación a casi cualquier sistema. Así es como nace Manjaro Fluxbox, una distribución que no sólo usa Fluxbox como gestor de ventanas sino que también da la opción de cambiar Systemd por OpenRC, el gestor usado en Gentoo.

Pero además esta nueva versión de Manjaro Fluxbox cuenta con un fork de Firefox, Palemoon y Claws-Mail en el aspecto de Internet; Abiword y Gnumeric en el aspecto de Ofimática; Vlc y LXMusic en el aspecto multimedia; GPicView, Qpdfview en el aspecto de imágenes y PcmanFM como gestor de archivos. La nueva versión contará con el Kernel 4.1 de Linux aunque se podrá cambiar y alternar entre las diversas opciones de kernel que la distribución presenta.

Pero su función liviana no es lo único que se ha cuidado. Manjaro Linux cuenta con muchas herramientas que da esa personalización especial. Una de estas herramientas es Manjaro-flux-theme que nos ayudará a cambiar el aspecto de nuestra distribución o Wbar, un panel y lanzador de aplicaciones que nos hará recordar esos tiempos de Windows 98.

En la web oficial de Manjaro podéis encontrar más información sobre esta nueva versión así como obtener la imagen para instalarlo en nuestro ordenador. Aún así personalmente me inclinaría por probarlo primero en una máquina virtual ya que este sabor cambia bastantes cosas respecto a otras distribuciones populares como la instalación.

Android Wear watches other than the LG Watch Urbane do in fact work with iPhones

Well, this is interesting. Just a few short hours ago, Google announced the Android Wear app for iOS, making it possible for smartwatches using its platform to connect to Apple’s smartphones. There was just one problem: for now, Google says, only the LG Watch Urbane will actually work with the Android Wear iOS app. All future Wear devices should have support for iOS built-in, but what about all the other smartwatches out there?

It obviously didn’t take long for enterprising individuals to try and connect other Android Wear watches to the iOS app. And, surprise! Both the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch have been caught working with iPhones, despite Google’s claims.

The one prerequisite for this to be possible seems to be that your smartwatch run Android Wear 1.3, the latest version that started rolling out not long ago. However, there are some caveats. Although Wear devices other than the Watch Urbane do work with iOS, the performance isn’t consistent, nor bug-free.

Duplicate notifications have been spotted on the Moto 360, and some of those simply refuse to clear from the watch. Also, changing watch faces from within the Android Wear iOS app doesn’t seem to always work. Clearly then, there are solid reasons why Google chose not to officially announce support for all Wear devices on iOS right now. But if you own both a Wear smartwatch and an iPhone, you may as well try the new app and see how it behaves for you. On the other hand, if you don’t have a smartwatch but do have an iPhone and want an Android Wear device, you clearly should stick with either the officially supported LG Watch Urbane or wait for new offerings to come out.

Oppo R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition may arrive on September 8

Oppo became an official partner of FC Barcelona back in June, and now it seems like the Chinese smartphone maker is preparing a special edition device to celebrate its status.

The image you can see to the left has been published on the company’s official Weibo account. It unveils the fact that there’s going to be an event on September 8, and this clearly has something to do with FC Barcelona given the players seen in the picture.

Chinese publications are speculating that this is going to be the occasion on which Oppo will introduce a new smartphone, the R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition. It’s supposedly going to match the ‘vanilla’ R7 Plus in terms of hardware, but will feature the football club’s logo on its back, along with some other FC Barcelona-themed additions.

For one, the system theme shipping with the handset will be all about the Catalan club, as will the packaging and the accessories coming with the phone. Pricing hasn’t been rumored yet, nor a release date or any hints about geographic availability. It might however be safe to assume that the R7 Plus FC Barcelona Edition won’t be confined to China, since the football club has incredible brand recognition across the world. And it would be odd for Oppo not to try and capitalize on that.

Apple TV Needs To Be A Legit Gaming Console To Disrupt The Market

By all accounts, Apple is gearing up to announce a new version of the Apple TV on September 9th. We’ve heard rumors about the next iteration of the Apple TV for years now, in many ways because it just seems like such an Appel-y  market segment. There are a whole lot of different options for a TV OS right now, some good, some bad, nothing utterly dominant and nothing that screams with the ease of use and sense of aesthetics that Apple brings to the table. Even so, any new device may face an uphill battle. The Apple TV will need to be a lot of things to succeed: intuitive, quick, effective and measurably different than the wealth of smart-TV options on the market right now. But it needs one thing above all else if it wants to disrupt things on the level Apple tends to shoot for: video games.

Thomas Jefferson was so interested in cryptography that he may have developed his own enciphering device after his mail was inspected by postmasters when the revolution was looming. Indeed, codes and ciphers are as American as the American Revolution itself. In fact, the revolution may not have happened if confidential correspondence, both military and otherwise, had been compromised by the British. In December 1801, Jefferson received an encrypted letter from a mathematics professor (the two both served at the American Philosophical Society) that was so inscrutable that he was never able to decode it—in fact, it was not decoded until over 200 years later.
