Just this morning, Google began sending out an update to the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 that fixed up the Stagefright security issue. Now a whole flood of patches is being released for phones from all different manufacturers and carriers. Sprint is now pushing out a security update for the bug to four different Samsung phones:
In addition, AT&T is pushing out a security fix for four Samsung phones on its network:
Finally, Alcatel OneTouch has sent an email out with the announcement that the company will be pushing out a security fix to the Idol 3 on August 10. The update will initially commence in the US and expand from there.
There are plenty of new updates arriving, but a lot of phones are still awaiting updates to patch the issue. We’ll work to keep you posted on other updates that arrive.

It feels like there’s something at least a little bit meta about Destiny’s new trailer for The Taken King, titled “We Are Guardians.” “It was supposed to be the end,” the narrator says. “But we weren’t ready to let go.” He’s seems to be talking about the Guardians, defenders of the last vestiges of humanity, but he also might be talking about Bungie, or maybe the players of Destiny. Over the last year, we all played a strange, strange game, a game that launched with an impressive paucity of content, a game with a bizarre story, a game that made some truly odd decisions. A game that a huge number of people stuck with, for various reasons. And yet here we are, playing a game that’s infinitely better than it was at launch but that still has a long way to go. “It was supposed to be the end, but we weren’t ready to let go.”

A few months ago I was able to share some early thoughts and previews of The House of Wolves due to a studio visit to Bungie with other members of the press. But for the new Destiny expansion, The Taken King, it seems only one outlet has the golden ticket. Game Informer has a brand new cover story about The Taken King, which is obviously be worth reading in its entirety if you can get your hands on a physical or digital issue.

Qualcomm es, sin lugar a dudas, la empresa de procesadores más famosa a nivel mundial en lo que a smartphones se refiere. La gama alta en Android, por lo general, suele montar sus procesadores, y parece que el nuevo miembro de la familia está muy, muy cerca. Según las últimas filtraciones, Qualcomm podría dar a conocer al mundo su nuevo procesador, el Snapdragon 820, en cuestión de seis días, es decir, el próximo 11 de agosto.
Tras el derrumbe que supuso para la empresa el Snapdragon 810, que tenía serios problemas de sobrecalentamiento, la compañía debía dar un paso al frente y crear un nuevo procesador que solucionase el anterior contratiempo y, a la vez, innovase en funciones. Parece ser que así es, y esta vez Qualcomm se ha lucido, porque el Snapdragon 820 es, en pocas palabras, increíble.
En esta ocasión, la filtración se ha producido por un analista chino en Weibo –el Twitter chino–. Este señor es una persona con cierta reputación dentro del mundo de los procesadores, lo que le da una cierta credibilidad a la hora de hablar de esto, porque no podemos obviar que fue este analista el que desmintió a Evleaks cuando esta dijo que el Google Nexus 6 llevaría este procesador.
Ya hemos hablado largo y tendido sobre el nuevo procesador de Qualcomm, por lo que decir que será un procesador de 64 bits casi que no nos causa impresión. Pero el hecho de que lleve la CPU Hydra si nos llama muchísmo la atención porque, al menos sobre el papel, el Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 promete, y mucho.
La CPU Hydra nos proporcionaría un 35% más de rendimiento respecto a su hermano pequeño, que obviando el sobrecalentamiento, daba un resultado espectacular. Además funcionará de la mano de la GPU Adreno A350, que mejora en un 40% su rendimiento y está fabricado en 14 nanómetros. Esto se traduce –siempre sobre el papel– en que la potencia de los smartphones que monten dicho procesador aumentará en un 30%.
Según el analista chino, la presentación de dicho procesador será el 11 de agosto de este mismo año, en unos cuantos días, y atención, porque el primer terminal que montará este procesador será, ni más ni menos, que el Xiaomi Mi5, aunque no su versión normal, sino su versión Plus. Este dispositivo será presentado en diciembre y, a partir de ahí, se abrirá la veda para que otras compañías lo usen en sus terminales. Parece que 2016 será el año de los tope de gama.

Last week brought a mild panic to the Android world with the discovery of a major security flaw in Stagefright, the media playback tool that Android has used since Froyo. The bug essentially allows an attacker to simply send an infected MMS to your device, thus introducing a virus to your phone. Updates are beginning to roll out to phones in order to patch the bug and the latest devices to get an update are the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.
Sprint has announced that an update to fix the flaw is now rolling out to the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6. The update doesn’t contain anything other than the patch and is titled build LMY48I. It’s unclear if it’s only rolling out to Sprint devices or all models of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6. Judging by Google’s past rollout, we’re going to guess the latter, meaning that you should soon see it if you’re using one of the two devices.
