Zuk z1

Qualcomm begins talking up GPU and image quality in Snapdragon 820

Qualcomm has a history of revealing its tech early in order to build interest around it. In typical fashion, the company has just announced the GPU that will be used in the upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor. That GPU happens to be the Adreno 530 and Qualcomm is boasting about some of its benefits. Most notably, the Adreno 530 GPU delivers a 40 percent increase in graphics performance as well as up to 40 percent reduced power consumption.

In addition, Qualcomm has revealed the Image Signal Processor that will be used within the Snapdragon 820. The Spectra dual-ISP features support for the newest 14-bit sensors for a better color range. It also features a new framework for autofocus and improved algorithms that should lead to overall improved camera quality.

Qualcomm has stated that the Snapdragon 820 will begin appearing in devices within the first half of 2016.

LG Nexus and Huawei Nexus specs leak, suggest very similar devices

The upcoming Nexus phones will be split between two makers – LG bringing a more compact 5.2″ handset and Huawei making the larger 5.7″ phablet. We’ve seen rounds of leaks detail the specs, but it looks like they will be roughly the same device differing mostly in size.

The LG Nexus will pack a 5.2″ in a (probably) metal body. Front-facing speakers bump up the size of the thing to 146.9 x 72.9 x 9.8m (8mm at the thinnest part). Other goodies include a fingerprint reader on the back and a USB Type C.

The Huawei Nexus will have 5.7″ screen in a (more certainly) metal body with front-facing speakers again. This bumps up the size to 159.4 x 78.3 x 8.5mm (6.6mm at the thinnest). The back fingerprint sensor and USB Type C will also be on board.

An earlier leak showed an impressive score from the LG Nexus (though we wouldn’t put much weight on benchmark scores this early) and revealed a 1080p screen resolution. The Huawei Nexus meanwhile will probably be powered by a Snapdragon 820 and feature a QHD…

SIGGRAPH 2015: Qualcomm Discloses Snapdragon 820 Graphics And Display Capabilities, Looks Strong

At the annual professional graphics conference, SIGGRAPH 2015, Qualcomm today joined many companies that disclosed their latest graphics technologies. Qualcomm took this opportunity to show those in the graphics industry what kind of a user experience their upcoming 820 SoC is capable of delivering in such a small package. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, has a multitude of new graphical and video capabilities, with the core of them being in the SoC’s new Adreno 530 GPU, which promises massive improvements over the previous generation in more than one way. While we haven’t see the new mobile smartphone graphics silicon from ARM Holdings which powers Samsung Electronics S6 or Imagination Technologies which powers Apple smartphones, we can say that the new Adreno 530 at launch could be the most feature-rich and highest performance graphics silicon in a smartphone.

Streaming Service Rdio Will Now Let You Listen To Hundreds Of Radio Stations

Despite the growing influence of streaming platforms, radio is still very important for millions of Americans, but the two have a hard time coming together. Many people listen to radio in their cars, and then switch to streaming options when they are at their computers or on their phones. It’s not that radio stations aren’t available online, but for some time now it’s been clear that many see radio as appropriate for one time of their day, while different access points for music are better for others. It doesn’t need to be that way however, and one streaming service is now looking to bridge that gap for millions.
