Study: More People Use Uber, But Lyft’s Users Are More Engaged
In the race for ride-hailing domination, Uber is far in front. But Lyft, its second-place rival, may be catching up.

Lyft’s users (that is, people who have the Lyft app downloaded on their phone) are more likely to open the app than Uber users are likely to open the Uber app, according to an analysis from Wefi.

Samsung announces the Galaxy S6 edge+ in India

Samsung has announced one of its two new flagship smartphones, the awkwardly named Galaxy S6 edge+, in India. The phone is priced at INR 57,900 ($888) for the 32GB model and will be available for purchase starting August 28.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ is essentially the bigger variant of the Galaxy S6 edge. It has a larger 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, 3,000mAh battery and wireless fast charging, with the rest of the specifications being identical.

Fossil muestra su smartwatch Android Wear que funciona con un chip de Intel

Fossil es de las pocas marcas que quedaban por mostrar su smartwatch o reloj inteligente bajo Android Wear. Fue de aquellos que llegaron a un acuerdo con Google cuando se enseñó por primera vez la versión modificada de Android para este tipo de dispositivos y entre los que se encontraban a Motorola, LG y otros tantos más. Un Android Wear del que hemos visto distintas apuestas de diversos fabricantes, unas con mayor éxito y otras que no han tenido tanta aceptación.

Fossil aprovechó la ocasión en la Conferencia para Desarrolladores de Intel para enseñar sus tres nuevo wearables que llegarán bien pronto. De los tres wearables, uno es una pulsera de actividad o inteligente, y los otros dos son más bien relojes inteligentes al uso tal como los lanzados por LG o Motorola. Uno de los detalles de estos relojes inteligentes es que tienen en sus entrañas a Intel.

Cuando supimos de la mano de Sundar Pichai, allá por 2014, que aparecería el SDK de wearables especialmente modificado de Android, aparecieron un buen número de marcas que integrarían entre sus filas a un reloj inteligente bajo Android Wear como pueden ser Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Intel, Mediatek, Qualcomm y Fossil Group.

Este último fue toda una sorpresa por ser una marca de ropa de gran renombre que nos traería un smartwatch con unas líneas elegantes y de gran estilo. Hoy ya sabemos la pinta que tiene ese reloj inteligente con la presentación de tres wearables por parte de Fossil de la mano de Intel, por lo que esta asociación puede marcar la aparición de otros productos si finalmente esta marca de ropa encuentra resultados financieros con el lanzamiento de un dispositivo de este tipo.

Sin las especificaciones

De los dos relojes inteligentes mostrados en esa conferencia para desarrolladores de Intel, uno de ellos es el que funciona con Android Wear y el que nos interesa. Y tampoco es que las dos compañías hayan querido dar más información sobre las especificaciones y características, pero por la estética visual de los mostrados, se puede esperar un producto con la plata como el color y correas de cuero y metal.

En las imágenes compartidas podemos evidenciar la antiestética barra negra que también vimos en el Moto 360 y que rompe ese aspecto visual a lo circular. Lo único que será la ubicación precisa para montar los varios sensores que tendrá este wearable, por lo que será la misma razón para encontrarlo en el reloj de Fossil bajo Android Wear.

Fossil e Intel anunciaron que estos dispositivos serán oficialmente anunciados antes de que acabe el verano, por lo que sabremos más de este wearable bajo Wear bien pronto. Por lo demás, poco más que decir sobre la incursión de otro reloj inteligente que intente captar la atención de muchos usuarios y vaya sumando calidad al mercado de este tipo de productos al que le está costando despuntar. Todo lo opuesto al de las pulseras de actividad o inteligentes que sí están siendo aceptadas por los usuarios para registrar todo tipo de actividad física.

Is Amazon A Terrible Place To Work?

Recently the New York Times did a brutal expose on Amazon’s workplace practices which painted the company as an absolutely horrible place to work. Since then the internet has lit up talking about this. Many articles and comments from journalist and employees (both former and current) have been posted and I went through many of them to try to get both sides of the picture. Regardless of if you hate or love Amazon as a result of this recent debacle I think there are three key takeaways from this that we should all consider. One, the response and how social sharing is bringing forth some amazing conversations, which make it very clear that employees now have a powerful voice (which didn’t exist before). Second, it is hard to know what is true and what is not. The New York Times did a very thorough expose, and there have been many comments in support of it. However, there are also a lot of comments that are saying Amazon is not that and that the NYT piece focused on the Amazon of old. Therefore, we need to look at this objectively. And third, we should not focus so much on Amazon, but on what you can do at your own organization to avoid being in Amazon’s position. What would happen if the NYT did an expose about working at your company? What your employees and managers say about working there?
