Huawei Mate 7S seemingly certified by TENAA, pictures outed

Mere hours ago Huawei basically confirmed that the Mate 7S would be the star of its September 2 event at IFA in Berlin.

And now the upcoming phablet has apparently been certified for sale in China by TENAA, the country’s equivalent to the US FCC. The certification has produced a couple of shots of the device, which reveal some subtle changes compared to its predecessor, the Ascend Mate 7.

In the image above, last year’s Ascend Mate 7 is on the left, while the Mate 7S is on the right. You can see that the front camera has been moved from the left to the right in between generations. The Huawei logo is also positioned differently. Whereas it was found in the phone’s chin on the Mate 7, the Mate 7S has it on the lower portion of the display panel for whatever reason.

Both sides of the Mate 7S can also be peeked at courtesy of the Chinese regulatory agency. The Mate 7S is expected to come with very narrow side bezels for its screen. It will be offered in black or gold.

For the Chinese market, three versions will be made, one for each of the country’s carriers. Past rumors had the phablet coming with a metal unibody design, 3GB of RAM, a Kirin chipset inside, a 13 MP main camera, and Android Lollipop underneath Huawei’s own Emotion UI.

Dropbox adds support for USB key authentication

Dropbox added support for USB key authentication. The new feature can be utilized as part of a two-step verification – user will insert the USB key after typing their password instead of entering digits.

The feature requires a FIDO Universal 2nd Factor-compatible USB key, which can also work with other U2F authentication accounts, including from Google. Currently, the new login security feature is only available through a Chrome web browser.

USB key login will surely appeal to those who are worried about using their account credentials in a phishing attack. Users who lose their U2F key will still be able to access their account via an authenticator app or a text message.

Spring prepping deal on Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+

It looks like Sprint is preparing for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+. The two devices are going to be announced tomorrow, August 13, at Unpacked, so stay tuned for all the details on the devices! But once they do launch, Sprint will have some incentives for you to buy one.

If you bring in a working smartphone, Sprint will take $200 off the price of one of these new devices. A $200 discount really isn’t bad. And if you sign a new two-year contract, you’ll get a free Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, too.

The deal ends on August 27th, so between tomorrow and the 27th we’ll see the two devices launch in the United States. Maybe Samsung is planning to launch the next devices right after the event, which would be awesome. Will you be getting one? Leave a comment!

Android Experiments es el nuevo sitio para los proyectos más creativas de código abierto

Las rotativas en torno a Android siguen a toda máquina, y ahora Google nos acaba de presentar una interesante novedad con la que podremos descubrir las aplicaciones con más creatividad. Se trata de Android Experiments, un lugar que recoge todos esos proyectos salidos de las mentes más imaginativas, que destacan por introducir alguna novedad o cualquier cosa que los hace especialmente interesantes.

La idea del sitio web es la de dar visibilidad a todos estos proyectos, y esto queda claro nada más entrar. Cada experimento –ahora mismo 20– tiene su propio espacio reservado, en el que podemos ver una amplia explicación en texto, y una introducción en vídeo, así como el enlace a la descarga en Google Play, y una opción para conseguir el código. Porque sí, todos son de código abierto.

Podemos destacar algunos como Ink Space, una aplicación de dibujo que gracias al uso del acelerómetro del dispositivo, hace que los dibujos se muevan dándonos perspectivas en tres dimensiones. También está Selfie x Selfie, una nueva manera de disfrutar haciendo selfies, o Gaze Effect, un curioso watch face repleto de ojos para nuestro reloj inteligente.

Google, promoviendo la creatividad

Android Experiments no es más que otra nueva forma que Google se ha sacado de la manga para fomentar la creatividad entre los desarrolladores, y conseguir así que salgan ideas realmente buenas. Todo el que quiera puede crear su proyecto usando las típicas plataformas como Android SDK y NDK, Unity y también Android Wear, entre otras, y enviar su proyecto. Todos serán revisados por el equipo de Android Experiments, y los más afortunados serán publicado en la página.

Sin duda, se trata de una vía más para que los desarrolladores puedan darse a conocer, enseñar sus ideas y proyectos, y quién sabe, quizás empezar a labrarse un futuro prometedor en esto del desarrollo de aplicaciones. Los que por el contrario, no tengan los conocimientos necesarios o simplemente prefieran ser meros espectadores y por qué no, betatesters, tienen un nuevo sitio en el que entrar de vez en cuando para descubrir y probar las aplicaciones más innovadoras y creativas del momento.

Dropbox ya permite utilizar una llave de seguridad para iniciar sesión en Google Chrome

Cada día que pasa, la seguridad en el mundo de la tecnología es más importante. Mientras que hace hace unos años no le dábamos tanta importancia, ahora estamos muy concienciados en que proteger nuestra intimidad es la máxima prioridad, sobre todo cuando uno almacena documentos, fotografías o cualquier tipo de archivo en eso llamado “la nube”.

La nube –o los servicios cloud– ha sido sin duda uno de los inventos de este siglo. Podemos almacenar cualquier cosa que se nos ocurra de manera fácil, económica y por supuesto, sin ocupar espacio físico. Google Drive, OneDrive o Dropbox son sólo alguno de los ejemplos de mejores servidores en la nube que podemos utilizar tanto de forma gratuita o con mayor almacenamiento por un módico precio. Hoy hablaremos de un nuevo añadido de Dropbox que seguro que gusta a los amantes de la seguridad y privacidad.

Pues bien, Dropbox ya nos permite iniciar nuestra sesión con el uso de una llave de seguridad. Para quien no lo sepa, se trata de pequeños USB que introducidos en nuestro ordenador, nos permiten iniciar sesión en diferentes servicios. Son más seguros que la verificación por SMS o la típica contraseña ya que en teoría no pueden ser interceptadas ni copiadas bajo ningún concepto. Aunque de momento sólo si iniciamos sesión desde el navegador Google Chrome.

Para poder iniciar sesión en Dropbox gracias a una de estas llaves de seguridad, deberemos habilitar la verificación en dos pasos ya sea por mensaje de texto o gracias a una aplicación, siguiendo el tutorial de la propia página de Dropbox. Una vez hecho esto, tendremos que:

  • Iniciar sesión en el sitio web de Dropbox.
  • Hacer clic en nuestro nombre en la esquina superior derecha de cualquier página para abrir el menú de la cuenta.
  • Hacer clic en Configuración en el menú de la cuenta y seleccionar la pestaña Seguridad.
  • En Verificación en dos pasos, buscar la sección Llaves de seguridad.

  • Seleccionar Añadir.
  • Insertar la llave de seguridad en un puerto USB.

De esta manera y a partir de este momento, podremos iniciar sesión en Dropbox gracias a este útil gadget. Si no sabéis donde adquirir una llave de seguridad, en Amazon hay para todos los tipos de bolsillo. En mi caso también es muy útil para iniciar mi sesión de Google en un ordenador que no es el mío.

Moto X Pure Edition lands in the US on September 3, Motorola says

A few weeks ago Motorola announced the Moto X Style, its flagship smartphone for 2015. Back then the company told us to expect the handset to make it to the US sometime in the fall, but under a different name – Moto X Pure Edition.

The new Moto X Pure Edition, to be precise, because there was a Moto X Pure Edition last year too – but obviously based on the previous Motorola flagship.

All branding confusion aside, today the company has finally unveiled the actual release date for the new Moto X Pure Edition in the US: it’s September 3.

This has been revealed through a tweet sent out by Motorola’s official account. Intriguingly though, it has since been deleted. So either someone jumped the gun and published that information too soon, or there’s a slim chance it wasn’t accurate – keep that in mind.

You’ll be able to customize the device as you see fit using the Moto Maker service, and order one that suits your tastes. The Pure Edition will be sold exclusively online through Moto Maker, though it will be able to work with the networks of all the major US carriers.

This Moto X Pure Edition will start at $399.99, unlocked. You can make the price go up by adding non-standard options in Moto Maker during the order process.

Like the Moto X Style, the Pure Edition comes with a 5.7-inch QHD touchscreen, a 21 MP rear camera with dual-tone dual-LED flash, a 5 MP front snapper with a LED flash of its own, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC with hexa-core CPU, 3GB of RAM, 16 / 32 / 64GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. Por fin ha llegado, la esperada versión completa del sistema de seguridad y penetración Kali Linux en su versión 2.0

Por fin ha llegado, lo estábamos esperando desde hace bastante tiempo y ya tenemos la versión completa de la famosa distribución de seguridad y penetración Kali Linux y viene con bastantes novedades y avances.

Cómo ya habíamos anunciado, ésta distribución ha llegado en el mes de verano. Parece que el proyecto Kali Linux se está tomando bastante en serio y quiere llegar a tener la repercusión que algún día tuvo su predecesor, el sistema operativo Backtrack.

En cuanto a las novedades, son las siguientes:

  • Kernel de Linux actualizado a la versión 4.0
  • Interfaz gráfica totalmente remodelada, ahora basada en el sistema operativo Debian Jessie.
  • Muchas versiones de escritorio incluidas, entre ellas los famosos KDE,Mate,Xfce,Gnome 3..
  • Mejoras en distintos controladores y compatibilidad con Hardware.
  • Actualización de la mayoría de las herramientas que trae éste sistema.
  • Incluidas nuevas herramientas como por ejemplo un capturador de pantalla.
  • Optimización y reducción de tiempos de carga con Ruby 2.0.

Para los que no lo conozcan, Kali Linux es un sistema operativo que sirve principalmente para hacer pruebas de penetración y seguridad en nuestros equipos o servidores, es decir, atacarnos a nosotros mismos para ver que vulnerabilidades tenemos y corregirlas de inmediato para evitar que otros usuarios no deseados nos ataquen.

Kali Linux es de los mismos desarrolladores que el famoso sistema operativo Backtrack, que también tenía como objeto hacer pruebas de seguridad, los cuáles decidieron descontinuar Backtrack e ir a por todas con Kali Linux. Dos años han pasado desde el Kali Linux 1.0 y aunque aun no tenga la fama de Backtrack, es un sistema operativo utilizado por los técnicos de seguridad informática de todo el mundo.

Para su descarga, lo podemos hacer desde la web oficial de Kali Linux, desde allí tendremos varias versiones a escoger: Primero la versión estándar de 64 bits, luego la versión de 32 bits y ademas tendremos dos versiones más livianas llamadas mini y light que ocupan bastante menos que la versión estándar. Una vez descargado lo podremos grabar en un DVD, montar en un pendrive o instalar en una máquina virtual, eso ya a título personal de cada usuario.
