Google launched a dedicated website that showcases cool applications for Android. Dubbed Android Experiments, the webpage displays apps for smartphones, tablets, and Android Wear smartwatches.
A number of projects are already on display on the Android Experiments website alongside links to download and install them on your compatible device. They leverage a number development platforms including Android SDK, IOIO, and Unity among others.
Interested developers can submit their creations to Android Experiments via a dedicated link on the new website. Experiment submissions are open to everyone.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ – which is set to be unveiled today along with the Galaxy Note 5 – will be up for pre-order in the company’s home country of South Korea on August 20, according to a report out of the country.
All major South Korean carriers, including SK Telecom, KT and LG U+, will begin taking the pre-orders on that date. The report also notes that Samsung is hoping that the device will increase its profit margins.

BlackBerry has started testing a new BBM feature that allows you to send and receive money using PayPal from within the messenger app. The feature is currently available for BlackBerry, iOS, and Android BBM users in Canada, and will roll out to other markets in the coming weeks.
The way it works is: first you have to select the PayPal “Send Money” icon in BBM and connect your PayPal account. Once your contacts also do the same, you can start sending money to them by selecting the PayPal icon in the app, entering the amount of money, reviewing the details, and finally hitting the send button.

En las últimas horas se produjo la llegada de la versión 2.4 de QEMU, una de las herramientas más reconocidas y de mayor recorrido en esto de la virtualización, un campo en el cual Linux sin dudas tiene mucho para ofrecer. Y se trata de una actualización que trajo novedades importantes, principalmente en lo referido a la emulación x86 y al soporte para el modo de gestión de KVM en el kernel 4.1.x.
Es que ahora se puede manejar en forma más ajustada la emulación gracias al soporte para SRAM y TSEG en ordenadores con el chipset Q35, a las que también se le añaden mejores posibilidades para la adición de controladoras de floppy disk, la cual puede ser creada mediante los parámetros ‘-drive if=floppy’, ‘-fda’ o ‘-fdb’. En cuanto a KVM, llega el soporte para operaciones MMIO por fuera del lock de QEMU, lo cual de momento solo está disponible para el timer ACPI PM.
Pero atención, que también hay novedades en cuanto al soporte para ARM, por ejemplo para la placa xlnx-ep108, y para ACPI v5.1 en el modo “-M virt”, o para instanciación de dispositivos sysbus desde la línea de comandos (mediante el parámetro ‘-device’) y para la emulación de streams ID para escritura MSI. Otra arquitectura que recibe apoyo es PowerPC, donde ahora el tamaño de memoria RAM por defecto es de 512 MB, y se añade soporte para la inserción de dispositivos PCI en SPAR.
En el aspecto gráfico llega el soporte para virtio-vga, un dispositivo VGA con soporte para la interfaz virtio-gpu, y el soporte para pantallas basadas en OpenGL con SDL2 y GTK+, trabajo inicial para la esperada aceleración 3D. En el caso de Mac OS X, hay mejoras en la implementación de Cocoa, y luego hay a nivel general toda una serie de mejoras y adiciones muy importantes que podemos conocer echando un vistazo al extenso changelog.

Lost in the alphabet soup that is Google’s new holding company is one of its many experiments in changing the business rules for network services while nudging the technology in a direction that ultimately benefits consumers. No, not Fiber, although it’s a fantastic broadband disruptor for those that can get it, but Project Fi, Google’s mobile service. After arriving with great fanfare this spring, Fi has slipped under the radar because of Google’s slow, by-invitation rollout, its very limited phone support (one!) and the fact Google hasn’t publicized the service like its more sexy Project X experiments like Glass, Loon and Self-Driving Cars. Indeed, the individual pieces that make Fi appealing aren’t unique, but collectively they are trendsetting and could herald welcome changes in how we all use and pay for phones and wireless service.
