Technology Won’t Generate New Content

Each season sees a fresh swath of legacy rock and roll artists dusting off their guitars for another tour.  The Grateful Dead promised that their July dates in Chicago will be their last. Pete Townshend seems to say The Who’s current tour will be their last (in a long series of farewell tours), although he does hold out that he and Roger may do some more recording. Mötley Crüe have signed an agreement among themselves that they will never tour after this tour is finished.

There’s A Problem With ‘The Witcher 3’s’ New Patch

CD Projekt Red released a new patch for it’s open world opus The Witcher 3, and it’s a doozy. Clocking in at 7.3 gb, the patch streamlines the inventory system, lets Geralt moves smoother and more responsively, increases text size and fixes a whole raft of bugs. It covers a lot of the complaints that people have had about the game so far, but such a massive tweak doesn’t come without a price. According to an analysis by Eurogamer, the new patch means that The Witcher 3 doesn’t perform as well on either the Xbox One or the PS4, dipping down to 20 FPS fairly consistently in some of the game’s busier locales. The Xbox One version performs slightly better, they say, but both consoles take a hit with the new patch.

“Compared side-by-side, the gap has narrowed between PS4 and Xbox One, but only due to the latter’s apparent degradation in performance, forcing the two to run at a matching 20fps in challenging areas. Otherwise, PS4’s performance profile on patch 1.07 doesn’t give us much to celebrate – it still stutters in places where Xbox One runs at a perfectly smooth 30fps, and in cut-scenes, Sony’s console produces the lower readings overall,” they write.

It’s a shame, because patches are usually supposed to improve performance, but hopefully CD Projekt Red can address some of these new problems in a future update. The company has been highly committed to releasing substantial free post-release content, whether that’s in the form of gameplay tweaks like this one or new costumes and quests in the form of weekly DLC drops. The developer will also be releasing more substantial paid DLC later on, which I’m eagerly awaiting. The consensus seems to be that even though performance takes a slight hit, the sweeping changes offered by this new patch still justify installing it.

Moto Hint gets a $70 price drop, now priced at $80

Motorola has dropped the price of its $150 Moto Hint. The tiny device can now be purchased at a much more reasonable $80 from Motorola's website.

In case you are not aware what this is, Moto Hint is a tiny Bluetooth headset that allows you to perform searches on your phone using your voice. You can wake it up using a voice command and then ask queries by speaking them out, without taking your phone out of the pocket. The device automatically detects when it is placed in your ear and switches off when it is removed. The Hint also has a very small footprint and remains discreet most of the time. The small size does come at the cost of battery life, which is only about three hours but the supplied charger can charger it on the go up to two times with its internal battery.

The Moto Hint works best with Motorola's smartphones as they have the voice command app and on other devices mostly functions as a simple Bluetooth headset. It is available in black leather, brown leather, walnut, bamboo, and light fabric…
