The Android One initiative for bringing affordable smartphones to emerging markets has reached its second generation, now offering better hardware on a similarly tight budget. The Lava Pixel V1 was made official today and a few more details have been revealed, on top of what we already knew.
As we reported yesterday, the smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display with Asahi Dragontrail Glass for protection. Although it's not explicitly stated, the chipset inside is most likely the Mediatek MT6582, judging by the 1.3GHz quad-core processor and Mali-400MP2 GPU, clocked at 500MHz. RAM is 2GB, while built-in storage is quite roomy at 32GB, expandable too.
Lava Pixel V1
The primary camera on the back of the Pixel V1 creates 13MP images, though the sensor is only 8MP. It's housed behind an f/2.0 lens and is aided by a single-LED flash, if need be. Video recording is capped at 1080p. On the front there's a 5MP sensor (again, software enhancement leads to 8MP photos) with a slower f/2.4 lens and no flash.
The Lava Pixel V1 measures 152.1 x 76.3 x 8.5mm and weighs 135g. Inside the fairly compact and lightweight body there's a 2,650mAh Li-Po battery, which the company claims is good for 20 hours of 2G talk time, or 12 hours on a 3G network.
The headline feature here is the latest Android 5.1.1 OS, which comes in stock form. Additionally, OS updates are promised for the next 2 years, and as an Android One device, the Pixel V1 is guaranteed to be among the first to get them. All of the above will set you back INR 11,349 or $177, a good deal by the looks of it.

La nueva apuesta de la firma china Xiaomi está al caer. Lo cierto es que en transcurso del actual año no ha hecho ninguna apuesta referente a un buque insignia como es el Xiaomi Mi5. Sin embargo, hemos conocido todo tipo de rumores, tanto ciertos como desmentidos, referente a sus características, especificaciones e incluso su aspecto físico, el mismo que hoy podemos dar por confirmado gracias a la última filtración de una fuente fiable que ha aparecido en la red.
A falta de una confirmación oficial, podríamos dar por seguro que éste es el aspecto que lucirá en su lanzamiento el terminal, sujeto a algún que otro cambio final pero desde luego que sigue la línea de sus productos y apunta a ser real, más por parte de la fuente, una página fiable y que suele acertar.
Si entramos en detalles, el terminal luce de nuevo los habituales botones capacitivos en la parte inferior.
Respecto a su antecesor, en el botón inicio o home incluye un lector de huellas dactilares para mejorar la seguridad del terminal.
De nuevo en la parte inferior, aunque es difícil de afirmar por la calidad de las imágenes nos aventuramos a decir que contiene un nuevo conector USB, exactamente los llamados Tipo-C que mejoran la transferencia de datos y proporcionan una carga más rápida.
Y algo que destacada por encima de cualquier otra característica es su pantalla, la misma que va de borde a borde y con unos biseles realmente conseguidos, algo que ofrece una mejor inmersión y visualización del panel con todo su contenido, más aún si es un panel de calidad y por seguro que no se quedará atrás frente al resto de terminales del mercado lanzados en el actual año.
Deberíamos esperar unas especificaciones tope de gama, como un Snapdragon 810 v2.1 octa-core, 4 GB de RAM –¿LPDDR4?–, lector de huellas dactilares, batería de 3.000 mAh, 32 GB de almacenamiento interno y una cámara de 16 megapíxeles con estabilizador de imagen.
Hay que prestar atención al día 16 de agosto, fecha habitual de presentación de nuevos productos, ofertas, promocionales que ocupa la firma de forma anual. Y recuerda, aún puedes votar por tu smartphone favorito de 2015, ¡el Xiaomi Mi 5 se encuentra entre los candidatos!

Daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings is expected to announce today the raising of $300 million in a new round led by Fox Sports. The new raise will increase overall third party investment in DraftKings to $426 million. It comes on the heels of its chief rival FanDuel completing a Series E round of financing for $275 million and firmly puts numbers 1 and 2 in the daily fantasy world at a distance from other competitors in the space when it comes to raising capital and forging key corporate relationships.
