YouTube dejará de funcionar en Smart TV, Google TV y otros dispositivos con más de 3 años

Como bien sabemos, el gigante Google posee la mayor plataforma de reproducción de vídeo en línea como es YouTube, en el que ofrece soporte en un gran número de dispositivos, tanto smartphones, tablets, Smart TV, Google TV, Apple TV y otros, pero esto va a cambiar, ya que recién han anunciado el abandono del soporte en dispositivos fabricados en 2012 o antes.

Así es, los cambios realizados en la API de YouTube dificultan en gran medida a la compañía el poder ofrecer pleno soporte y actualización de funciones, por lo que los siguientes dejarán de usar la plataforma desde este instante:

  • Google TV con versión 3 o 4
  • Televisores con Smart TV
  • Apple TV
  • Blu-Ray de Sony y Panasonic
  • Consolas de juego sin soporte para Flash o HTML5
  • iPhone, iPod Touch y iPad con versión inferior a iOS 7

Este cambio tendrá gran impacto en el público, pues con los televisores, en la actualidad un gran número de personas poseen uno con más de 3 años de uso, que comúnmente es algo habitual, dado que la economía en muchas familias no permite actualizarlos cada poco tiempo. Con el resto de dispositivos ocurre lo mismo, si no tienes la posibilidad de renovarlo a uno más actual, no podrás usar YouTube.

Los propios citan que, el ahorro de trabajo y tiempo invertido en mantener el soporte de estos dispositivos se empleará en mejorar la plataforma con más eficacia y rapidez, además de ofrecer un mejor servicio a los demás dispositivos que cumplen los requisitos mencionados anteriormente.

Es una mala noticia para muchos, pero también es necesario mencionar que, esperemos un cambio notable ya que por contra, sería un movimiento de gran impacto sin beneficio alguno para los usuarios, que somos quien sufrimos las consecuencias.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A preorders in the US starting on May 1

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A went official a while ago and from the looks of things, it is going to be Samsung's next budget-oriented tablet series. Now, the first Tab A devices are closer to consumer markets than ever.

Both the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and Tab A 8.0 devices will be up for preorder in the US, starting May 1. Both tablets were already officially announced in Russia last month, so we have a pretty thorough idea of their specs sheet.

The Galaxy Tab A tablets are the first to show Samsung's switch to the 4:3 screen ratio, which will reportedly feature in the new generation top-of-the-line Galaxy Tab S models. Both come with an XGA PLS TFT display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and a ppi number of 160 and 132, respectively.

Other than the obvious difference is screen size, the devices share the same, rather modest, specs sheet. Both models are powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, presumably within a Snapdragon 410 chipset. The rest of the specs include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and the bigger one comes with a dual-speaker setup.

The camera setup sounds perfectly adequate as well, especially, considering the budget nature of the tablets. It consists of a 5MP main shooter and a smaller 2MP one on the front. The battery pack also differs depending on screen size. The smaller 8.0-9nch one is equipped with a 4,200mAh, while the 9.7-inch model boasts a significantly more spacious 6,000mAh.

The new Tab A series also come with some advanced features, found in the company's premium Tab S line. These include the famous Multi Window feature, which is invaluable for multitasking and taking full advantage of a bigger screen. It fits perfectly with the Microsoft Office pack and 100GB OneDrive storage that come bundled with the devices. The list of software goodies is long and includes such services as Milk Music, Quick Connect, Smart Switch, and SideSync 4.0. Both tablets also run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, with convenient multi user and parental control features.

As far as pricing goes, the smaller Galaxy Tab A 8.0 comes in White, Smoky Titanium, and Smoky Blue and is priced at $229.99 and the bigger 9.78-inch one will set you back $299.99, with the same choice of paint jobs. There is also a 9.7-inch Titanium version of the tablet, which comes with an S-Pen and a price tag of $349.99. Both devices will be up for preorder across the US from Samsung stores, as well as Best Buy, Amazon, and HH Gregg starting May 1. And the special Titanium version will come around May…

Posibles fechas de actualización de Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Note 3 Neo y Galaxy A

Aspecto físico del Samsung Galaxy Note II Tal y como recogen en HDBlog, ha sido filtrada información relativa a las actualizaciones a Android 5.0 Lollipop, de algunos de los dispositivos de Samsung. En concreto, se trata de los Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo y los miembros de la familia Samsung Galaxy A, incluyendo el Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Todos ellos estarían próximos a recibir esta última versión del sistema (penúltima si contamos Android 5.1 Lollipop).

Según el siguiente cuadro, todos esos smartphones se actualizarían a Android 5.0 Lollipop en algún momento de los siguientes dos meses, mayo y junio. Veamos:

Así, los Samsung Galaxy Alpha y Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, que ya estarían en la fase final de pruebas, recibirían la nueva versión del sistema en mayo, mientras que Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7, y Samsung Galaxy Note 2 harían lo propio en junio.

Lógicamente, no podemos confirmar que se trate de una información oficial, aunque sí parece cercana a la realidad. Cabe destacar que Samsung ya ha actualizado o está empezando a actualizar algunos de sus últimos modelos en la gama alta, incluyendo los Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge y Note 3, y también el Samsung Galaxy S5. Por su parte, los nuevos Samsung Galaxy S6 ya se venden con Android Lollipop.

Android Lollipop sigue ganando presencia, aunque su avance está siendo muy lento. Actualmente, como podíamos comprobar con los últimos datos de distribución del sistema, Android 4.4 KitKat es la versión más utilizada, superando ya a Android Jelly Bean, y viendo el ritmo que lleva Lollipop, parece que esto seguirá siendo así durante bastante tiempo. Debemos recordar también que Android 5.1 Lollipop ya está en el mercado, por lo que no sería de extrañar que algunos dispositivos que aún no han actualizado, lo hagan ya directamente a esta versión más reciente.

Qualcomm utilizará las instalaciones de Samsung para construir el próximo Snapdragon 820

Todo parece apuntar a que Qualcomm no reinará este año como chipset por excelencia en dispositivos móviles, pues el rendimiento no tan superior como esperábamos del Snapdragon 810, junto al problema de temperatura que sufre cuando se le da un uso intensivo, podría ser una etapa difícil para la compañía, eso sin contar los buenos resultados que está dando el Exynos 7420.

Pese a lo anterior, una etapa mala la tiene cualquiera, por ello, Qualcomm ya piensa en el futuro y como bien cita la fuente, estaría barajando elegir las instalaciones de Samsung para fabricar su próximo Snapdragon 820, pues se aprovecharían de estas para desarrollar el nuevo chipset con 14nm (FinFet) en vez de los actuales 20nm, lo que resultaría un mejor rendimiento, más eficiencia energética y menor temperatura como sufre en la actualidad.

Desde el punto de vista del usuario parece un buen movimiento, pues la compañía estaría pensando en los beneficios, además de la evolución de su producto, junto con ofrecer los últimos avances tecnológicos al público y todo las ventajas que conlleva, para unos y para otros.

Renovarse o morir, nada funciona igual de bien para siempre y desde luego, nadie le quita el buen rendimiento de otros Snapdragon usados en la actualidad, esperemos que para la próxima generación de smartphones encontremos un cambio y mejora notable.
