Why are beetroots a rare crop exactly?

Minecraft has a few crops that you need to put some effort into finding:

• Melons can be found in jungles or in dungeons, but are required for healing/damage potions

• Pumpkins can be found fairly rarely in the wild, or in dungeons. They can be turned into one of the better food sources, and are required for both flavors of golems. You can also turn them into Jack O' Lanterns or wear them as enderman defense.

♦ Potatoes can be found rarely from zombies or from villagers, and are one of the best food sources for the amount of effort required to farm them.

• Carrots can be found in the same places, and can be made into golden carrots. These have the highest saturation value in the game, and can be used to make night vision/invisibility potions.

Now let's compare this to beetroots. They can be found from villagers, in dungeon chests, or in end cities. Tackling an end city is one of Minecraft's biggest challenges, and has the best rewards.

For your effort you get a non-stackable food source that can't be made in the pocket crafting grid. Being able to craft solid food on the go is the biggest redeeming factor of mushroom soup.

You also get another source of the most common dye in the game. Poppies are the most common flower, tied with dandelions. Most biomes spawn those two flowers exclusively. You can turn one bonemeal into two red dye by bonemealing a rose bush. You can also get poppies from iron golems.

It's only useful as a food source if you're in a pinch, and if you're putting effort into getting it you've probably already obtained a good food source by that point. You absolutely have if you're raiding end cities.

Why are these a rare crop exactly?

[17w06a] Some wool texture seemed off so I decided to try and “fix” them (After/Before) via /r/Minecraft

[17w06a] Some wool texture seemed off so I decided to try and “fix” them (After/Before)

The changes made to the wool texture were a bit controversial but most of them look great after the update. However, a few other players and I noticed that specific ones looked too contrasty and noisy. The soft feel to them had got removed since a soft material is not supposed to have highlights. Here is the after/before.
P.S. I know that this is still a snapshot and most stuff will probably get changed. This is just to get Mojang's attention on features/changes that need polishing. If you think that any of the changes should be altered in some way, write it in the comment section.

To C418, and all of Mojang really via /r/Minecraft

To C418, and all of Mojang really

I love this game. I've been having a rough time medically, and all the problems that go along with that. I've been super stressed for 2 years.

A few days ago, I booted up minecraft just for kicks, to see what had changed since I last played in 2014. I started a new survival world, and just played. This game is really has its own style , its just so mellow and relaxed. I justed wanted to say thank you, Mojang team.

But this thread really belongs to C418, the creator of the music. It's just so calming, and it's really de-stressed me. When I used to play back in 2013/2014 I always turned the music off, I thought it was annoying. Looking at most minecraft players turn it off, and its never in youtube videos. This is a little saddening to me, it feels like one of the most enriching parts of the game, and people just cut it out. Thank you C418, for the wonderful music.

-A refound minecraft player

Downvote me if you like, but if anyone cares to read this, turn your music on.

Is there a technical reason jukeboxes can’t be filled with a hopper? via /r/Minecraft

Is there a technical reason jukeboxes can’t be filled with a hopper?

It's been suggested a dozen times to be finally able to input records into a jukebox with hoppers and also take them out.

Even beacons have an inventory slot, that can be filled with hoppers.

In my opinion this feature would be a no brainer to implement. We could finally make music systems and the records also have interesting properties, which would make them interesting for a lot of other redstone applications. They're are a non-stackable item, that could be sorted, because it gives out a certain signal strength, when put inside a jukebox. If we would have 16 different records really compact data storage systems would be a new possibility and I'm sure redstoners could think of many other interesting applications.

This minimal change would create so many new possibilities and spark new creativity, which fits perfectly into minecraft.

I'm wondering if this feature request was forgotten when hoppers got implemented or if there's a technical reason. Jukeboxes can't be moved, that's why I guess they're a tile entity and could have inventory slots.
