Huawei Watch variants ‘Jewel’ and ‘Elegant’ now available in the US

Back in January, Huawei announced two variants of the Huawei Watch – Jewel and Elegant – targeted at the female audience. After a rather long wait, the two variants are now available in the US.

Jewel and Elegant are internally identical to the standard Huawei Watch but externally try to conform to women’s watch design. This means a lot of gold plating, narrower bands in colors and textures that are not ‘black’ and ‘boring’, respectively. And also a bit of bling on the Jewel variant, in the form of Swarovski zirconia crystals surrounding the display. The crown has also been…

ZUK Z1 will be powered by Cyanogen OS in India, Lenovo confirms

Lenovo has confirmed that the ZUK Z1, which is set to launched in India soon, will come with Cyanogen OS out-of-the-box in the country. The confirmation came from Anuj Sharma, head of the company’s Product Marketing division.

Given that the device already made its international debut with Cyanogen, this shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise. However, it’s an important development as far as Indian smartphone market is concerned.

In India, Micromax’s sub-brand Yu Televentures has had an exclusive deal with Cyanogen since 2014 as part of which the former has been launching Cyanogen…

Week 17 in review: iPhone 7 to be waterproof, HTC One S9 launched

Not the dullest of weeks this last one. For one we had a rather unexpected high-profile launch – the HTC One S9 went official out of the blue, bringing us another One, just when we thought the name had been buried with the arrival of the HTC 10.

A couple of announcements came out of China too – the Honor 5C and the Meizu m3 made the headlines too, because who doesn’t like affordable midrangers.

It’s not just the official releases that gathered a lot of interest, though. The next iPhone is always a hot topic, regardless of what time of the year it is. This week we had another source…

Weekly poll: HTC 10: would you get it

You’ve never been as spoiled for choice as you would be in 2016 going out on the lookout for a flagship smartphone. Not only do the established brands offer top notch devices, but also upcoming names from China are making their best products ever.

HTC, as a veteran in the smartphone world, was struggling to out a compelling offering in the past few years, but now with the 10, it’s back in the game. In HTC’s tradition, the 10 has a metal unibody, BoomSound stereo speakers and UltraPixel camera and an ample 5.2″ QHD display.

All of HTC’s effort, however, will be to waste if people don’t…

New phones of the week

This week HTC raised some eyebrows with its reluctance to let go of the One series. It unveiled the HTC One S9, which is decidedly less exciting than it sounds.

It’s essentially a mid-range phone in a One M9 body. Yes, the stereo speakers are back on the front, but the rest a bit of a disappointment after the big promise of the HTC 10 and especially at this price – €500!

The phone has a 5″ 1080p screen, a Helio X10 chipset with 2GB RAM, 13MP camera, a measly 9.24GB left from the 16GB storage. The fingerprint reader has gone missing too. At this point, the One A9 is so much…

Acer Liquid Z630S hands-on

We already got a chance to handle the Acer Liquid Z630S briefly at last year’s IFA in September, but we’re not ones to shy away from an opportunity to examine a phone at headquarters. So when one presented itself, we grabbed it. That said, we didn’t do our full battery of tests – instead, we’ll just share a few impressions gathered in a setting way calmer than a venue floor.

Body: Polycarbonate all around, removable back,
Screen: 5.5″ IPS LCD, 720p resolution (267ppi)
