WhatsApp launches native Mac OS and Windows apps

Turns out the rumors were true, as WhatsApp has now officially announced a new desktop app. “Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device,” the company said in a blog post.

Available for Windows (version 8 and up) and Mac OS (version 10.9 and up), the app stays synced with WhatsApp on your mobile device, allowing you to communicate with other WhatsApp users in your list while your handset remains in your pocket.

“Because the app runs natively on your desktop, you’ll have support for native…

Meizu m3 note lands in India for $150

A month after it went on sale in China, the m3 note from Meizu has landed in India, making it the first country outside of China where the device has been officially made available. The handset is listed on Amazon India for INR 9,999, which translates into $150 at current exchange rates.

What’s worth noting, however, is that the phone is not immediately available for purchase – the listing reveals that the first flash sale is scheduled for May 31, with registrations opening later today. Also keep in mind that the Chinese company has brought the 3GB/32GB variant to India.

The m3…

Xperia X Performance to land in Japan next month

The Sony Xperia X Performance might be slated for a July release elsewhere, but – as it turns out – folks in the company’s home country of Japan will not have to wait that long. That’s because Sony Japan has confirmed that the handset is scheduled for a mid-June launch there.

Au, (or au by KDDI) will be selling the handset at launch. What’s worth mentioning, however, is that the model (SOV33) that will go on sale in Japan is not exactly same as the global variant – for example, the SOV33 packs in a 2,570mAh battery, compared to the 2,700mAh one offered by the global model.

Samsung is another step closer to completing its originally promised Android Marshmallow update schedule, as Marshmallow has started hitting N910F Galaxy Note 4 units around Europe. Now that most owners of the Exynos-based N910C model as well as many carrier versions of the handset already have their Android 6.0 OTA, this new wave of updates for the popular Snapdragon 805 version of the two year old phablet might actually be one of the final steps within the Marshmallow update cycle for older Note devices.

Samsung Gear 360 pre-orders start in the UK

Samsung’s Gear 360 was unveiled in February and just like its name implies it’s a digital camera that can record 360-degree videos for that VR look that’s so trendy these days. The device has subsequently become available in the company’s home country of South Korea, and we’ve also seen it priced in the US and on pre-order in continental Europe.

Now the Gear 360 is up for pre-order in the UK, from just one retailer at the moment. MobileFun is offering up the camera in exchange for £299.99 of your hard earned cash. Shipping is reportedly going to happen around mid-June, but a less vague…

Huawei’s Honor Band A1 is a fitness tracker with a UV sensor

The Honor V8 isn’t the only new product that Huawei has announced today at its event in China. The smartphone is joined by the Honor Band A1, a fitness tracker with a twist.

As you’d expect, it’s capable of tracking your exercise time, distance walked or ran, steps taken, calories burnt, as well as the amount and quality of your sleep (this last function also works for very short naps apparently). Where the Honor Band A1 stands out from the crowd is in its embedded UV sensor, which measures the radiation levels around you and recommends you a suitable sunscreen to use.

That’s not…

Alleged Moto G4 front panel reveals 5.5-inch 1080p display and fingerprint scanner

At an event on June 9, Lenovo is probably going to unveil the 4th generation Moto G (and possibly even the 4th gen Moto X too). As we get closer to that date, we’re starting to see more and more leaks about Motorola’s upcoming smartphones.

Case in point: today the alleged front panel assembly for the Moto G4 has been spotted on eBay, offered to whoever might be interested in purchasing it. This item, if genuine, thankfully gives us an idea of the phone’s screen size and resolution.

According to the writing on the connector that can be seen on the back of the screen assembly, this is…
