Moto X 2016 prototype promises Shattershield AMOLED screen

Next-gen Motos have been occupying the rumors section these past few days. The flagship of the line, the Moto X 2016, was previously seen in leaked renders, but now the front of a prototype has been caught on camera.

Like the upcoming Moto G, the X will have a 5.5″ display. It will reportedly resemble the Moto X Force/Droid Turbo 2 display – AMOLED, with Shattershield protection.

You can also see the square fingerprint reader, a design feature it shares with the G model. Two round holes above the screen suggest a front-facing flash like on the Moto X Style. Also note the “Moto” logo,…

ZTE CEO teases upcoming Axon 2 flagship

A teaser image of ZTE’s upcoming Axon 2 flagship was shared by the Chinese company’s CEO Zeng Xuezhong on Weibo. While the device’s TENAA listing already revealed the front and the back of the device, the new teaser image focuses on the phone’s bottom, and compares it with the bottom of the iPhone 6s and the Huawei P9.

One can’t help but notice the minimalistic design (sans any screws and speaker) that differentiates the Axon 2 from the other two flagship smartphones. However, it’s worth mentioning that this design is not new to ZTE phones, as – for example – the Axon and Axon Elite…

Google now provides OTA images for Nexus devices

Serial flashers (not that kind) are already aware of Google’s factory images for Nexus devices, that let you download the full ROM and flash it to your Nexus device. The downside to doing this was you needed an unlocked bootloader, and doing that would wipe your device.

Enter OTA binary image files. These allow you to sideload the image to your device without having to bother with the bootloader. This means you can upgrade easily without having your data wiped (although it wouldn’t hurt to backup, just in case).

As before, these are only available to Nexus devices for now.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 may launch as soon as next month

Samsung’s next-gen fitness band may arrive sooner than expected – as soon as next month. The Samsung Gear Fit 2 is spearheaded by SVP Rhee In-jong, who also leads Samsung Pay.

The new band will add GPS to existing formula as well as the bio-processor Samsung announced late last year. The processor goes beyond the usual heart rate tracking, it promises to measure body fat and skeletal muscle mass. It’s questionable how accurate those measurements will be, but the GPS will definitely improve run and biking tracking.

The Gear Fit 2 will use an updated 1.84″ Super AMOLED screen that…

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) is now official

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) has made the next logical step from yesterday’s full reveal, and is now official. As you can imagine, the final specs are entirely the same as the ones leaked yesterday.

That means a 10.1-inch display with 1,920×1,200 pixel resolution. The technology is Samsung’s own PLS (Plane to Line Switching), a variation of the popular IPS panels.

Update hitting unlocked HTC 10 units in US

HTC has started rolling out an update to its newly-launched 10 smartphone in the US. As per the change-log, the update brings enhancements related to camera performance and WiFi stability, as well as improvements related to system stability.

The update (which is currently only hitting unlocked units of the device) might appear to be similar to the one that was rolled out early last week in Europe, but is certainly more heavier than the latter – it weighs in at around 395MB, compared to the 85MB European update.

It bumps up the software version to 1.53.617.5, and also brings along…
