Report says Motorola planning to ditch Moto X lineup in favor of new ‘Moto Z’ branding

While Sony moved from ‘Z’ to ‘X,’ Motorola is apparently planning to make a switch in the opposite direction. According to a new report, the Lenovo subsidiary is planning to update its Moto X line-up with a new ‘Moto Z’ branding. If true, this would mean that there won’t be any Moto X branded phones in the future.

Remember the two Motorola devices (shown below) – code-named Vector Thin and Vertex – that leaked early last week? The report notes that those will be called the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play, respectively.

Further, the change will also affect Verizon’s Droid line-up, where…

After launching it in the US last year, Google has expanded the availability of the YouTube Red ad-free subscription service to a couple of more countries – the service is now available in Australia and New Zealand as well.

Apparently, the search giant hasn’t yet made a formal announcement in this regard, just the YouTube help pages were updated with the new locations. Also, it isn’t yet clear how much the service will cost in these new regions.

To refresh, aside from being ad-free, YouTube Red also lets you save videos on your mobile for viewing offline, as well as supports…

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active leaks with a camo paintjob

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active leaked yesterday painted in an unfortunate color scheme, here’s another look – the camo paint job is much more palatable.

We have seen it before, about a week ago, but then it sported an AT&T logo on the back (as did yesterday’s leak). This one does not, however, meaning this is the international model.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active (leaked render)

Going by leaked benchmarks, the Galaxy S7 Active will have a bigger screen than the base S7 – 5.5″ QHD, like the S7 edge without the edge – a Snapdragon 820 chipset and a 12MP camera.

Considering the current…

Always on Display for Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge receives update

The Always-on display feature on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is new to the smartphone world. This year, phone makers like LG and Samsung decided to bake in software features that let the screen stay permanently on with minimal information constantly on display such as time, date, and basic notifications.

Samsung has updated its Always on Display feature by allowing users to customize the range of time that the feature should be active. Now users can only have their Samsung Galaxy S7s only stay permanently on for an allotted amount of time per day such as the full shift at work, or…

Sony Xperia Z5 down to $500 at Best Buy, B&H, and Amazon

With Sony’s new Xperia X lineup almost here for the summer, the Xperia Z5 is slowly but surely finding its way down the price ladder. The phone that originally retailed on sale on Best Buy for $600 is now $100 off the original retail price. With Sony’s incoming Xperia X phones already around the corner, it doesn’t feel like Z5 has had enough time to mature.

Anyway, Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo have all listed the Xperia Z5 in all three colors: white, graphite black, and gold, all unlocked and ready to activate on any GSM network for $500. It’s worth noting that B&H Photo also carries…

Just last week, there were reports that Android Pay’s UK launch is imminent. And earlier today, the mobile payments service actually started rolling out in the country, with the official Android Twitter account saying, “Download #AndroidPay today from @GooglePlay. Now available in the UK.”

However, the joy was short-lived as a follow-up tweet from the same account effectively confirmed that the launch has been withdrawn:

Google to unveil Amazon Echo competitor at Google I/O, reports say

Tomorrow kicks off Google I/O. Google puts on a presentation of the past and future projects for the entire Google suite of products and services. One of the projects that Google’s been closely working on is apparently a direct competitor to Amazon’s rather successful smart device called the Echo, which is essentially a voice-activated information hub offering things like sports scores and real-time weather.

The New York Times reports that Google will introduce such a device in San Francisco on Wednesday at the stage of Google I/O. The same report says this product should be called Google…
