Android N Developer Preview can now run Chrome side by side

Google added the ability to run apps side by side in Android N but so far we could only run different applications side by side, which means if you wanted, say, two browser windows side by side, you’d have to install a separate browser alongside Chrome to do that.

Well, Android N Developer Preview 3 fixes exactly that. Now, you will be able to run Chrome windows alongside each other.

With a new option in the Chrome menu, you can move a tab to the space next to your current window, which then creates another instance, and then you can use it to open other tabs. The OS remembers…

Zopo Speed 8 benchmarked, all 10 cores of it

We met with the Zopo Speed 8 at MWC, and it was our first encounter with the Mediatek Helio X20 chipset, which boasts a 10-core CPU. We now have a final unit at the office for some more tinkering, and you can see how we might be eager to run some benchmarks to see what all the fuss is about.

Just a quick reminder, the Mediatek Helio X20 (or MT6797, for the more technically inclined) features a deca-core CPU with a couple of Cortex-A72 cores clocked at up to 2.3GHz, four Cortex-A53’s at 2.0GHz and another four Cortex-A53’s, which can can only go as high as 1.4GHz. On board the Speed 8 there…

Top 10 trending phones of week 20

Announced this week, the Lenovo Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were quick to enter the Top 10 trending chart. And while the Moto G4 settled into a modest 8th spot the Plus shot straight to Number 1, knocking the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 out of the way.

Other than that the chart looks very much the same as last, with the usual suspects arranged in the same fashion, only a spot down. This means four Samsung J-series models followed and the Galaxy S7 occupy the positions from 3rd to 7th.

The Moto G4 is, again, in 8th, while the ZUK Z1 has inched a spot ahead into 9th. Another one from Samsung,…

Weekend poll: Sony Xperia X, Hot or Not?

Sony officially announced that the Xperia Z series is no more and the unofficial talk is that the other Xperia lines have been cut. Only the new Xperia X will live on. In a way, Sony has come full circle as the Xperia X1 was the first to bear that name. But did Sony throw out the baby with the bathwater?

The Sony Xperia X is our first full-time encounter with the X series (we saw the XA and X Performance shortly at MWC and we did a preview of the XA Ultra). And as the saying goes, you only have one chance to make a good first impression.

The phone very much looks and feels like it’s a…

Weekend poll results: Samsung Galaxy S7 edge voted Best Android phone

Last week we asked you to pick the Best Android smartphone from the 2016 roster and the vote was very definitive – the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is the fan favorite by a landslide.

The runner up is the HTC 10, which along with the S7 edge left all other phones in the dust. Including the smaller Galaxy S7, which was edged out by the Sony Xperia X Performance.

The next close fight was the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the LG G5, the Xiaomi came out on top eventually. It’s bigger sibling, the Mi Max didn’t, get as much love, but it did top the Huawei duo.

Great stuff from our Top 3. Samsung’s…

Oculus Store update prevents games from running on non-Rift hardware

Oculus pushed an update to its games store that requires users to have a Rift connected to download games.

Previously, one could download any of the Rift exclusive titles from Oculus’ store even without owning a Rift, which enabled users to run the games on the HTC Vive using third party software like Revive.

However, with the latest update, the store now requires users to have a Rift to download the games. It doesn’t precisely stop you from running it on other devices, but you will also need to have a Rift along with the Vive to be able to download the games.

This is in stark…

Samsung rolls out update for Galaxy S7/S7 edge, very specific bug fixes this time

Outside of the typical monthly schedule, which brings in the latest Android security patch, Samsung has released new firmware updates for the current flagships Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The timing is extraordinary, but then so is the nature of the updates.

Unlike the usual generic release notes that cite unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements, these latest releases address very specific issues. The first one on the list is perhaps the one that’s hardest to understand, but the summary is that screen clarity when using Always On Display has been improved.

Other things…
