Nextbit Robin now available in India

After a few delays, it seems Nextbit finally came through and made good on its promise to release the Robin smartphone in India. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the cloud-focused device is now out for the general public – sales are expected to kick off exclusively on Flipkart on May 30 for INR 19,999 or about $297. This includes both the Mint and Grey color options. Marshmallow update starts hitting Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE as well

When Nvidia started rolling out the Marshmallow update to the Shield Tablet K1 back in April this year, it said that the original Shield Tablet – including LTE models – will also get the update in a few weeks.

In-line with that time-frame, the original Shield Tablet started receiving the update a couple of weeks ago, and now the update has started hitting the LTE variants of the tablet as well, at-least in the US.

Sony expects 20% drop in smartphone shipments this year

Sony has published its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, revealing that it expects to ship a total of 20 million smartphones in the year, down nearly 20% from the 24.9 million figure it managed in the year prior.

The Japanese company says that the expected drop in sales is due to “a reduction in mainly mid-range smartphone unit sales reflecting an increased focus on high value-added models, as well as a reduction in smartphone unit sales in unprofitable geographical areas where downsizing measures were implemented during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2016.”

Chromecast and Chromecast Audio receive $5 price cut in US

Google has given its Chromecast and Chromecast Audio dongles a price cut in the US. The devices, which usually carry a price tag of $35, are now available for $30 on the Google Store.

A quick look at some third party retailers including B&H, Target, and Best Buy reveals that the discount isn’t only limited to the Mountain View, California-based company’s online store.

Report says Meizu m3 metal variant coming next month

According to a new report out of China, a metal variant of Meizu’s m3 smartphone will be made official next month – June 13 to be precise. The new variant will not only feature a metallic design, but will also run Android (version 5.1) instead of YunOS that powers the standard version, the report notes.

Moto G4 Plus’ Canadian pricing revealed

While we already know that the newly-announced Motorola Moto G Plus will land in Canada by early summer, now we also have some information on the device’s pricing in the country. According to a company spokesperson, the device will carry a price tag of around CAD 400, or around $305.

Of course, the carrier variants will be subsidized. Companies including Virgin, Koodo, Telus, Rogers, Wind Mobile, and Sasktel are expected to carry the handset in Canada. Aside from the G4 Plus, the Moto G4 Play is also expected to land in the country, but sometime late summer.

Nexus Player is no longer available from Google

The Nexus Player is no longer available to purchase from Google – its listing on the Google Store has been removed, although the product information page is still there. Co-developed by the Mountain View, California-based company and Asus, the Android TV device was launched Back in October 2014.

For its part, Google has confirmed that the product has been discontinued. “Nexus Player is still available on some retail sites,” a company spokesperson said. However, none of the retailers mentioned on Nexus Player’s Google Store page currently have the device in stock.

Through a new press release, LG has announced that the G5’s “Friends” are now available to purchase in the US, both from carriers as well as the Korean company’s own official online store.

G5 Friends is what LG calls the dedicated line of accessories it’s created for the flagship smartphone it unveiled back in February. These include some modules that can be plugged into the phone’s bottom side, but also standalone products.

Verizon sends out new update to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

Today Verizon has started pushing out a new update to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge units it’s sold. The new release is software version VRU4CPD2 for both devices, and you can manually check for its availability on your S6 or S6 edge (pictured below) by going to Settings > About device > Software updates, in case you haven’t already received a notification about it.
