Samsung Galaxy S7 edge getting June security update already

While June hasn’t even begun, the Android security update for the month has already started hitting the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smartphone. Specifically, the update is being rolled out to units on carrier Orange in Spain.

This is not the first time a Samsung device has started getting a monthly security update in advance – the Galaxy Note 4 started receiving the May security update towards the end of April. There’s currently no information on what else (if at all) the latest Galaxy S7 edge update includes.

As is usually the case with OTA rollouts, it may take some time for the update…

Weekly poll: Are you running Android 6.0 Marshmallow?

According to Bloomberg, Google is keeping track of how fast vendors update their phones to the latest Android version. These stats are private right now, but the search giant is reportedly considering making them public as a way to pressure laggards into hurrying up.

So, with Android 7.0 N looming we have to ask – does your phone have 6.0 Marshmallow?

All recent flagships launched with 6.0 (some heavily customized, but still), some mid-rangers too. Others were swiftly updated from Lollipop (usually 2015 flagships). And then there are the commoners, who trudge along with 5.0…

Top 10 trending phones of week 21

Nothing much happened this week in our Top 10 charts – the Moto G4 Plus holds a tight grip on 1st place. The regular Moto G4 (formerly 8th) tumbled out of the charts.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 held on to second place. Third is the Samsung Galaxy J7, after that is its successor, the Galaxy J7 (2016). Basically, the top four phones in our charts have 5.5″ screens, which suggests this is the most popular screen size at the moment.

Weekly poll results: Sony Xperia X gets a lukewarm reception

A “meh” resounded in the voting hall when we asked you, our readers, to vote on the Sony Xperia X. “Good phone, bad price” seems to be the consensus.

Some (rightfully) felt that that the X-series isn’t a huge improvement over the Z-series it’s meant to replace. That’s for the Xperia X, though, people still expressed hope for the Xperia X Performance.

As we noted in our review, the price of the X cannot stand. It’s higher than the Xperia M5 (which is arguably just as good a phone) and is higher even than the Xperia Z5 (not to mention Galaxy S7, LG G7, …).

So now we play the…

In the absence of any official support list, as of yet the only solution is to deduce and hunt around for fragmented information. This is exactly what user konrad-iturbe on Reddit…
