Deal: Google is offering $50 off of the Huawei Watch

The deals just keep on coming. This latest one comes courtesy of El Goog itself, which is offering a $50 discount on the Huawei Watch if you purchase through the Google Store. The Huawei Watch currently sits near the top of the Android Wear market, with a fantastic design and a lot of great features. The downside is that the high quality costs money, making it pricier than most Android Wear watches.

While the cheapest option is technically the $349 stainless steel and leather combo, Google doesn’t offer that one. Instead, it offers the next tier up of either stainless steel and a mesh band or black stainless steel with a black link band. Those options are normally $399 and $449, respectively, but for the time being (likely through Christmas), Google will knock $50 off at checkout. This discount comes in addition to Google’s current offers of free overnight shipping (good through December 23) and extended returns until January 22 (good until Christmas).

If you’re looking for a deal on the Huawei Watch, this is the one to get!

Deal: Moto X Pure Edition for $349 on Amazon

It may be the season of holiday deals, but Amazon is always in the mood to give you a great sale. Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a fantastic one, offering you $100 off of the list price of the Motorola Moto X Pure Edition. The Moto X Pure Edition is regularly listed at $449.99 for the 32GB model, but for today only, Amazon is selling the 32GB Moto X Pure Edition for just $349 in black or white color options.

Amazon is also offering $100 off of the price of the 32GB white and bamboo Moto X Pure Edition, putting it at just $374.99. This is a spectacular deal, as the Moto X Pure Edition is one of the best Android phones on the market. It offers powerful hardware, such as a 5.7-inch QHD display, 21-megapixel camera and Motorola’s TurboPower charging, which is the fastest mobile charging technology currently on the market, giving you 10 hours of use after just 15 minutes of charging. All of that great hardware is then paired with nearly stock Android software, with just a couple of very useful tweaks from Motorola. Best of all, it’s completely carrier unlocked, allowing you to use it on any operator of your choice.

TYLT ENERGI 6K charger/power bank review

Power banks are fantastic accessories to keep around for emergencies. Whether you’re abroad or just want to avoid missing a Snapchat, having some form of communication always available is important. So instead of carrying around a charger and a separate power bank, why not carry both in one device?

Overview

Price: $69.99-89.99
Capacity: 6,000 mAh
Plugs: US built in, +$10 include UK and Europe adapters
Where to buy: TYLT

Not only is the TYLT ENERGI 6K is unique in that it’s both a charger and a power bank, it also features both a built-in cable and an extra USB port. This allows you to charge your device with no additional cables and then charge a second device using a USB cable.

The main draw of this accessory is its travel readiness. You bring it along, charge your device or two at night, and it’ll charge the internal battery after your devices are fully charged. In the morning, unplug it and bring it along with you as a 6,000mAh power bank to top off your devices if they die.

For travel, the TYLT ENERGI comes with a US flip out plug that folds flush and out of the way. There’s also a model that includes both UK and European adapters for international travel for an extra $10, which is a really nice touch.

In terms of charging, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a standard charger. It can output a total of 2.4 amps, which is fast but not Quick Charge fast.

The short built-in microUSB cable is a fantastic way to charge your device on the go. Plug it in, toss it into a bag, and it’ll charge without messy long wires. When not in use, the wire folds into a gap on the side of the charger. Despite this, the unit remains fairly compact.

TYLT ENERGI 6K 2

If you’re interested in the TYLT ENERGI, hit the link above to check it out. For you iPhone users, there’s also a version with a Lightning cable for $10 more. I think the TYLT ENERGI is an invaluable travel companion, and though the price is high (TYLT makes expensive, but well-built, products), it’s creative and useful. You can get power banks for much cheaper, but I quite like this one for its design and features.

Split-screen support rumored for Android 6.1 release in June

Android 6.0.1 is still fresh out of the oven, but a new rumor will leave many craving next year’s Android 6.1 release. A new rumor claims that Google is planning to bake in a few enhancements for app permissioning and split-screen app support into Android 6.1 when it’s released next June. Android 6.1 is expected to be a minor update and will carry the Marshmallow label, so we’ll likely be treated to an even bigger release in the second half of 2016.

An early version of multi-windows functionality was actually hidden away in the Android M preview build. It allowed users to choose between multiple screen layouts which pinned two apps side-by-side or four apps in a grid layout. The functionality can be seen in the video below. Split screen or multi-window support (we’re not sure what the final name will actually be) will certainly improve the functionality or Android tablets, but it’ll likely be heavily used on smartphones as sell since many people now use devices with displays that are 5.5-inches or larger.

While we’re delighted to hear that split-screen support in Android is finally on its way, the rumor’s timeline for Android 6.1′s release conflicts with a rumor regarding HTC’s 2016 flagship phone – the HTC Perfume. According to @LlabTooFeR, the HTC Perfume is expected to launch with Android 6.1. Since the retail launch of HTC’s flagship phones typically fall between late March and the end of April, Android 6.1 would need to be released sooner or the HTC Perfume would launch before the software is available. At this point, it’s impossible to know how things will play out.

Do you think split-screen functionality will make Android tablets more appealing for consumers and developers?

Hangouts rumored to lose SMS/MMS functionality

Google Hangouts has long been used as both a way to use the Hangouts chat functionality and text others. The app even combined the two into one chat log and let you decide which to use at different times. Though this functionality is nice, the app itself has been problematic for many.

A new rumor claims that Google will be stripping Hangouts of SMS and MMS functionality. Thankfully, the rumor also states that Project Fi and Google Voice functionality will remain alongside the standard Hangouts chat. And this makes sense, as the Google Messenger SMS app has become polished and user-friendly.

Once the change comes, if it comes at all, users will be asked to download the Google Messenger app, though you’ll be able to use any third-party SMS app you want. Google employees are apparently already testing the app without SMS. What do you think of this change? Do you still use Hangouts for text messaging? Leave a comment!

The holiday deals are flying and Google is jumping onboard with a couple of offers for its newest smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. In addition, those who buy one of the phones will receive free overnight shipping and, if bought before Christmas, an extended return period that lasts until January 22, 2016.

Knocking $50 off of the Nexus 5X brings it down to a starting price of just $329. The Nexus 6P is now set a starting price of just $449, making it a crazy good value. Both phones are great, but the Nexus 6P is one of the most-praised phones currently on the market. T-Mobile offering $100 off Samsung flagships and a free year of Netflix

We’re in the peak of the holiday season and all of the best deals are swirling around. T-Mobile is offering another holiday deal, though shockingly, it’s not targeted at another carrier. This deal is for new and current customers alike, and it’s offering a lower price for Samsung’s most popular flagships. Between Friday, December 18, and next Wednesday, December 23, customers can receive $100 off of a new Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ or Note 5.

In addition to that discount, T-Mobile is offering a free year of Netflix for anyone who picks up one of those Samsung smartphones. The Netflix deal will be available a little bit longer, from December 18 through December 31. Even if you miss getting a discount on the device, you can still get a free year of Netflix if you buy one of the phones before the end of the year.

T-Mobile has been going full force with deals during the holiday season, offering several deals aimed specifically at the customers of other carriers. It’s finally reached the end of its frenzy with this promotion, but we’ll likely see the scrappy carrier offering more promotions when the new year begins.
