HTC One M10 rumors reignite with metal-clad body, March unveiling, multiple chip configurations

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming HTC One M10, but we now have new rumors from two different sources which give us new insight into the phone’s internal and external hardware, along with HTC’s launch plan for the phone. As with all rumors, please take the following details with a pinch or two of salt.

Due to the lack of rumors floating around, many have begun to speculate that HTC had pulled the plug of the One M10. Fortunately, that’s not the case. The reason the rumor mill has been silent is because HTC is still working out the final design of the phone’s design and has pushed the handset’s unveiling back to March with an April retail launch. HTC will host a dedicated launch event for the phone, similar the HTC One M7 and One M8 events in 2013 and 2014. While the One M9 was unveiled at Mobile World Congress last year, the device was overshadowed by the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and dozens of other devices which launched that week.

The new rumors don’t give us much insight into what the HTC One M10 will look like besides confirming that the phone will be metal-clad with a circular camera lens on the back and a fingerprint scanner and a IP78 waterproof and dustproof rating. On the inside, the phone will features a 3,000 mAh battery and a 23 megapixel camera. The European and North American version of the phone will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, but HTC is apparently prepping a Chinese and South-East Asian variant which will be powered by an unnamed MediaTek processor.

There’s no guarantee that the HTC One M10 will help HTC’s flailing smartphone business, but the fact that the phone’s launch has not been scrapped is great news for the Android ecosystem.

MetroPCS offers special deal for Sprint customers who switch

At this point, the war between Sprint and T-Mobile is almost exhausting. The two carriers are constantly duking it out to see who can offer the best deal. T-Mobile is aiming another punch today with the help of its prepaid subsidy carrier, MetroPCS. Sprint customers who switch to MetroPCS during a limited time period can receive savings of up to 50% off of Sprint’s Family Share Pack.

The amount of savings will vary greatly, depending on factors such as your existing Sprint plan, your new MetroPCS plan and the number of lines that you’ll be switching. But the savings will be anywhere from 22-50% over your current bill, so at least you’ll be saving something. In addition, MetroPCS is also offering a $50 rebate for each line you switch to Sprint. That rebate can be used on any of the devices that MetroPCS sells.

This offer is open to Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile customers and the promo will begin tomorrow, January 21. T-Mobile says that the promo will run for a limited time only, so if you’re interested, you should probably act sooner rather than later.

Follow the source link below for more details on your specific savings.

ASUS ZenFone Zoom will be exclusively sold through B&H Photo

The rise of smartphones has been a major factor in the downfall of point-and-shoot cameras. As time has progressed, manufacturers have placed greater emphasis on smartphone cameras, not only in mainstream devices, but also in niche products. ASUS’s ZenFone Zoom is one of those niche products, packing an incredibly powerful camera. Now, more than a year after its debut, it will go on sale in February.

ASUS will be selling the ZenFone Zoom exclusively through B&H Photo. The device is priced at a fairly reasonable $399 and is currently available for pre-order. Orders are slated to begin shipping on February 1. If you’re unfamiliar with the ZenFone Zoom, it packs in a 13-megapixel PixelMaster sensor, 10-element Hoya lens, optical image stabilization, 3x optical zoom, laser autofocus and the option of fully manual camera controls.

Other specs include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage plus microSD card slot, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 3000mAh battery and LTE support. Unfortunately, the ZenFone Zoom is running Android 5.0 Lollipop, putting it behind the times in terms of software.

Follow the source link below to pre-order yours now!

Choetech USB Type-C cables and chargers on sale

We are in the process of reviewing a variety of products from Choetech, like this Qi wireless charger, but if you need some USB Type-C chargers now, there are some good deals to be had on Choetech’s various USB Type-C offerings.

Critically, they have recently gotten the seal of approval from Google employee Benson Leung, who is on a mission to take down all hazardous USB Type-C cables.

Here’s a list of the deals available right now. Keep in mind that you do need to add the coupon code at checkout to get the deal:

We will be working on our own reviews of Choetech products moving forward, but for those of you like me with USB Type-C devices to charge right now, any discount that can help build up a collection of chargers and cables is precious.

Verizon begins testing FreeBee Data sponsored data program

Verizon today announced FreeBee Data, its new sponsored data service. FreeBee Data is launching today in beta form, so companies can sign up to have their apps and content be a part of the program.

Verizon’s program consists of two sponsored data offerings. FreeBee Data 360 is available today and enables the provider to make chunks or all of their content available without data charges. FreeBee Data will launch on January 25 and will let the providers offer pay-per-click content, which users will be able to identify by spotting the bee logo that you see below. The first providers to offer FreeBee Data will be AOL, GAMEDAY, and Hearst Magazines, who will offer sponsor content for 1,000 test Verizon users.

verizonfreebeelogo

The goal of FreeBee Data is to give providers a way to get their content in front of users without making them use their data allotment. Providers can sponsor things like video, audio, and app downloads, giving them several different ways to market their content to Verizon customers.

Verizon isn’t the first carrier to try sponsored data. AT&T has been testing sponsored data for two years now, but it’s still in a testing phase. Both AT&T and Verizon will likely test out their sponsored data programs to see how popular they are with users and what the general reception to them is before full-on launching them to the public. There’s also the fact that there are critics of these programs that say they violate net neutrality, which is another thing for AT&T and Verizon to consider.

What do you think of these sponsored data programs?

Saygus V2 now expected to launch in Q1 2016 with Marshmallow

The Saygus V2 has had an interesting history. The phone debuted at CES 2015 and got a lot of attention thanks to its spec sheet, which includes two microSD slots. Saygus then opened pre-orders and an Indiegogo campaign, but here we are in 2016 and the phone still hasn’t launched. Saygus now says that that’ll change soon.

The company recently posted a tweetstorm to explain to shed some light on what’s been happening since it last updated us on the V2 in November 2015. Saygus says that it stopped working with one of its partners at the end of the year and now it controls “most of the process” of making the V2. “It has been a great relief not having to count on the words from a partner who may or may not provide us with accurate details or updates,” the company explained.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Saygus went on to say that they expect the V2 to ship in Q1 2016, following the availability of its new fingerprint readers in early February. Now that it’s a year out from its original announcement, Saygus is upgrading the V2’s spec list a bit, giving it Android 6.0 Marshmallow, dual SIM slots, and USB Type-C as well as making it “washable.” Saygus is also throwing in earbuds, an extra protective cover, a spare battery, and 50 percent off its next phone with V2 purchases.

The Saygus V2 was originally slated to launch in spring 2015, then it got pushed to the fall, and now it’s slated to arrive in Q1 2016. Whether or not Saygus hits this latest release window remains to be seen, but if you’re still sticking with your pre-order, at least you know that your phone will feature some upgraded features whenever it finally ships.

Have any of you pre-ordered a Saygus V2?

T-Mobile reveals BlackBerry Priv pricing ahead of launch

BlackBerry has had its Priv handset available on its website for a bit of a stretch now, but since the only way to pick one up was to pay the full retail price in one step, it might have left it off many potential customer’s option block. T-Mobile might be able to do something about that.

The company has finally revealed the pricing for the Priv, which will launch under the Magenta carrier’s umbrella on Tuesday, January 26. It will be available in a couple of different ways, including JUMP! On Demand. With this option you can pay $0 down and then 18 monthly payments of $34 after that. You can then pay off the device — a total of $719.99 — and keep it if you like, or trade in the device and upgrade to something else if you’re looking at another handset.

T-Mobile will also offer the Priv through its equipment installment plan, which means you’ll pay $0 down and then 24 monthly payments of $34. You’ll pay $720 in this scenario, but the device will be yours to do what you will when it’s all said and done.

Now that installments are an option, do you plan on picking up a Priv through T-Mobile?

HTC unleashes the One M8′s Marshmallow update on Europe

As expected, HTC has started pushing out the Android 6.0 update for the HTC One M8 in Europe. The two-stage update is being pushed to both unlocked and carrier-branded versions of the phone. If you happen to own the One M8, you can go to Settings > About > Software Updates > Check Now to see if the Marshmallow update is available for your device. It may take several tries before the update begins since HTC only allows a certain number of concurrent connections to its servers.

The Android 6.0 update for the HTC One M8 includes Google Now on Tap, tweaks and enhancements to HTC Sense, improved battery life with Android’s new Doze functionality and the ability to increase the system storage on the phone with the new adaptive storage feature (see video below). Since the update is over 1GB, we recommend connecting to a good WiFi network before beginning the download process.

Let us know how the install process goes and don’t forget to let us know what you like most about Android Marshmallow.

Google may choose HTC to build two Nexus phones

HTC’s VR and fitness products have been in the press quite a bit over the past few weeks, but now a new rumor has come to light that claims that we may see two exciting smartphones from HTC later this year. The source of this news claims that HTC will be working with Google to develop 5-inch and a 5.5-inch Nexus smartphones sometime in 2016. Since Nexus phones are typically released in the fall, there’s really no additional information to share at this time.

In addition to building the T-Mobile G1, HTC was also chosen by Google to build the Nexus One, the very first Nexus device. Over the years, Google has turned to Samsung, LG, Motorola and Huawei to build subsequent Nexus phones, but it looks like things may finally come full circle. Nexus phones typically do not sell well, but the companies that have built the devices for Google often benefit from the partnership and have seen increased sales of their other Android devices. There’s no guarantee that building a Nexus device will have any lasting impact on HTC’s bottom line, but we certainly don’t see a downside to it.

Based on the devices that HTC has released recently, do you think the company is worthy of building Google’s 2016 Nexus phones?
