Where have all the Vanilla players gone? via /r/Minecraft

Where have all the Vanilla players gone?

I remember a time when Vanilla Minecraft was the best way to play the game, where nothing else could compare to the Vanilla experience and the heavy use of mods and plugins was largely frowned upon by the community.

Everywhere I look, I see mods, plugins, command block interference – but no love for Vanilla! Sure this game isn't perfect, but it's a long way from needing the meddling hands of modders.

All the best Youtubers have some variation of mods in their videos now; the front page of this very subreddit is littered with images of modified gameplay or command block riddled accomplishments. I want to see what you did in survival, playing only on Vanilla with the tools and resources Mojang gave us!

I used to play on one of the most amazing Vanilla SMP servers I have ever witnessed, but now as I try recreate those nostalgic days my posts are buried by cries for modified servers with all the "best" plugins, mods, and command block altered gameplay.

Nobody wants Vanilla Minecraft anymore.

Maybe I am an "old-timer" now, the last of a dying breed, maybe my tastes haven't kept up with the trends, or maybe I'm just too close-minded.

Or maybe the world has changed, blinded by the shiniest modifications to a game that doesn't suit their needs, every player striving to play their own version of this game but not slowing down to enjoy it as intended.

There are endless possibilities, limitless adventures, and countless things to discover alone or with a friend all with no need to add anything extra to this amazing game.

Where are all my fellow Vanilla players, am I truly the last of a dying breed or has the rise of the modders driven you to silence? Rise up, and let us stand for this game that is already so great on its own!
