Dear devs, thanks for the colored beds! However, I have one small request for us resource pack creators…
I'm excited to have dyable beds, and I like how the bed feet are now 3d. However… I'm a resource pack creator, and the new bed texture system doesn't work well at all. Mostly because the bed feet are a separate element of the bed model, and there's just one texture for all the feet… What this means is that if your texture pack has more complex shading than default, it will be impossible to align all the feet perfectly. Let me demonstrate.
This is how the new bed texture file looks. The red circle highlights the foot texture. Pretty much the bed has two sections. The frame and sheets (so everything outside of the circle), and the feet, which are just four identical cubes stuck to the bottom of the main frame of the bed. But that cube is the same on each leg, and if the texture has shading like most resource packs probably do, you could make it look perfect on one side of the bed, but you could never get it to look perfect on all sides of the bed.
(View 1 and View 2) These are screenshots of my resource pack – I got it to look perfect on the left and bottom sides, but on the top and right sides the feet are reversed. If I change it to look good on the right and top sides, the bottom and left sides will be reversed.
And this could easily be fixed! If the texture file simply looked more like this, it would be so much easier for resource pack creators to update the bed model. Not only would it allow for us to make good looking bed textures, but it's also just a much cleaner and more organised look to the file.
I really hope Mojang considers this. Thanks!
