Modern anime series like Kill la Kill and Star Driver owe a lot to the shoujo and Takarazuka tradition. However, it’s clear that series like Revolutionary Girl Utena also have a major part to play in that. This new Blu-ray release then is a fascinating piece of anime and still remarkably compelling.
