Meet The Entrepreneur Bridging The Gap Between Tech And The Military

Nick Taranto, co-founder of Plated is one. Paige Craig, managing partner of Arena Ventures is too. So is Ann Weeby, director of workforce innovation at Salesforce. They look just like any other person in the the startup world. But the truth is that they are part of a small but growing population in tech: veterans. And if Harvard grad and former Navy EOD Officer Mike Slagh has his way, there will soon be a whole lot more of them.

The Nether Update – New Nether Biomes and Mobs via /r/Minecraft

The Nether Update – New Nether Biomes and Mobs

I feel like the Nether has so much potential, but there really isn't that much to do in it. I've seen people suggest adding new ores or structures, but I wanted to make an idea that would organically fit into the current Nether.

So here's my Nether Update idea:

Nether Biomes:

Basically part of a lava ocean but only 1 or 2 blocks high. The reason why this is special is that it will reveal Giant Fossils that would normally be submerged in the lava.

On these skeletons you'll find Bottom-feeders, a nether bug that decompose dead things. (model by Lokilover)

They can't attack the player and move pretty slow, but if you die they will try and consume your experience.

A very rocky body of lava with lots of netherack and magma blocks.

An area infested with brown mushrooms.

The stems are not apart of the mushroom, they are naturally occuring basalt, a new stone block type that contains extra nutrients that brown mushrooms thrive off of.

Basalt also spawns randomly like andesite/diorite/granite in the Nether.

The ravines of the nether, filled with lava and magma blocks creeping up from the bottom.

A variation of the lava ocean with giant basalt spikes protruding from the lava.

Extras:

A Nether variation of the Sea Guardians, they will spawn and swim in lava, and if they spot you they will shoot you with a beam that sucks you into the lava.

The beam can be avoided by walking away, but the more Lava Guardian's tracking you, the harder it will be to escape the pull.

The heat from the core of Minecraft escaping in these vents, releasing towers of smoke.

Standing in these will launch you in the air, or give you a boost if you're using an Elytra. Standing in it for too long will cause blindness and poison.

Floating islands will now spawn above Lava Ocean's, held by chains from the ceiling. This really just gives it that hell vibe.

The chains are made of a new aesthetic block called "Weathered Iron Block", it cannot be crafted back into iron and has no purpose other than aesthetics.

Conclusion:

The Nether can get pretty boring, hopefully these changes will spice it up.

Let me know what you think, and what you think should be added to the nether.
