Apple usará un edificio que apareció en la película “Help!” de los Beatles

La gigante de la tecnología Apple instalará su sede central para la capital británica en la central termoeléctrica en desuso de Battersea, en el sur Londres.

La creadora del iPhone y del iPad reubicará a 1,400 empleados de sus ocho oficinas de la capital británica en el edificio histórico de Battersea, que dejó de generar electricidad en 1983.

Los empleados ocuparán los seis pisos de la planta del edificio de ladrillos, que ha sido sometido a una restauración en los últimos 33 años.

La fábrica, que se ubica a orillas del Río Támesis y que cuenta con cuatro enormes chimeneas, apareció en 1965 en la película “Help!” de los Beatles.

El histórico inmueble fue adquirido por Apple tras un año de negociaciones, y será su sede a partir de 2021.

Apple rentará un espacio de casi 50,000 metros cuadrados, lo cual la convierte en la sede más grande del mundo fuera de Estados Unidos.

Las oficinas centrales para Europa se quedarán en Cork, Irlanda, donde la compañía cuenta con 6,000 empleados.

El alcalde de la ciudad, Sadiq Khan afirmó que “es una buena señal que Apple se mueva a la estación de energía de Battersea” y añadió que “esto ayudará a generar nuevos empleos y a la prosperidad económica de Londres”.

BlackBerry Admits Defeat And Exits Smartphone Manufacturing Business

BlackBerry is out of the smartphone manufacturing business. CEO John Chen announced the new strategy as part of the Canadian company’s Fiscal Q2 2017 report. The hardware team was given sales target that would allow the division to run at a profit, but BlackBerry handset sales have been falling short of every target.

Time has now ran out for the hardware division, as Chen explained in the report:
