The Arrival of Artificially Intelligent Beer

The Arrival of Artificially Intelligent Beer
“Machine learning” covers a grab bag of algorithms, techniques, and technology that are by now pretty much everywhere in modern life. However, machine intelligence has recently started to be used not just for identifying problems but to build better products. Amongst the first is the world’s only beers brewed with the help of machine intelligence, which went on sale a few weeks ago.

Here’s Why Tesla’s New Battery Pack Is Significant For Its Future Growth

Recently, Tesla Motors unveiled a new battery for its electric vehicles which is capable of going up to 315 miles on a single charge. This range sets a new benchmark for automotive engineers who are trying to resolve “range anxiety” issues, as it brings electric cars in line with the range typically received in a gasoline powered car. Tesla’s existing batteries give a range of around 170 miles from a charge that takes about 30 minutes. The company divulged the new power pack with the introduction of its Model S (P100D), which claims records for accelleration as well as range. And with this technological breakthrough in place, Tesla canoffer this higher range battery in its less costly models as well. Still, the success of an electric vehicle, adequate infrastructure in terms of charging stations is critical. As an increasing number of Tesla cars hit the roads in the next few years, its super charger network can face tremendous volume, which can be balanced with a battery having a higher range, reducing waiting time in these stations. This development is an indication of Tesla’s innovative edge over competition and should attract buyers towards its higher end models in the long term.

Speaking Up For More Female Speakers At Tech Conferences

Over the past few years, I’ve continually been dismayed how few women are featured as speakers at tech conferences. According to one 2015 study in the U.S., only 25% of speakers at tech events are women — and in Europe I’ve observed certain conferences have fewer than 10%.   Such was the case with Tech Open Air (TOA) in Berlin.  Their initial line-up of speakers for TOA 2016 included only one female speaker out of 12 — less than 10%.

Why Apple’s ?13 Billion Penalty Is Just A Drop In The Ocean [Infographic]

The European Commission has ruled that Apple should repay up to €13 billion ($14.5 billion) in back taxes to Ireland. After a three year investigation, the Commission concluded that Apple’s tax benefits are illegal and that Ireland enabled the US firm to pay far less tax than other companies between 1991 and 2015. In fact, Apple avoided paying tax on nearly all of its products sold across the EU’s single market, paying an effective tax rate of 1 percent in 2003. That fell further to 0.005 percent by 2014. Apple and the Irish government criticized the ruling, with Irish finance minister Michael Noonan announcing he would appeal it.
