Immigration has been a hot-button issue in America for over 150 years and may be for another couple of centuries. Still, amid the controversy, there are a number of facts that I’ve discovered through research about high-skilled immigrants that give a sense of the overlooked benefits and contributions of immigrants, as well as policies that warrant fixing in the U.S. immigration system.

The rain was beating against the window of my small helicopter as I flew over the endless blue waters of the Coral Sea. The Great Barrier Reef in the distance provided a momentary distraction as we broke through the clouds, and as if by magic, in the horizon a small lush green island appeared. The storm clouds parted and the sun began shining in dramatic fashion as we landed on this magical, remote island known as Bedarra.
