Nvidia Reports Strong Quarter Driven By The Pascal Launch & Strength In Deep Learning

Leading GPU manufacturer Nvidia reported its Q2 2017 earnings on August 11th. The company built on its growth momentum by posting revenues of $1.43 billion, an increase of 24% over the prior year and 9% quarter to quarter. It was above guidance and consensus as well. Except for a 6% decline in its OEM and IP business (in line with declining mainstream PC demand), Nvidia witnessed strong growth in all its business segments. The company registered strong double digit growth across its four key platforms – Gaming, Professional Visualization, Datacenter and Automotive, which together account for 89% of its revenue, up from 85% a year earlier.

Why Facebook Is Investing In a Hardware Lab

Recently, Facebook posted a blog about the opening of “Area 404”, a 22,000 square foot fully equipped hardware lab in its Menlo Park office. While Facebook generates most of its revenues from advertisements on its core social media platform, it has hardware-related initiatives intended to amplify or support its main business. These include its Connectivity Labs, the Oculus VR business, and promising research projects including Aquila and OpenCellular. The goal for Area 404 is to offer the various engineering teams a single location equipped with the latest equipment to pursue their projects. As Facebook continues to grow and focuses on immersive social experiences such as virtual reality, it will need intelligent hardware to support its growth. Area 404 should help the company better address these needs.

Is there a mod that removes huge mushrooms? via /r/Minecraft

Is there a mod that removes huge mushrooms?

Hi, I'm /u/manint71 and I suffer from mycophobia, the fear of mushrooms. Please PM me all the hate comments to keep the comment section full of discussion. Feel free to ask questions about it though.

Anyway, playing Minecraft has always been a challenge for me. I've played since Beta 1.2_02, and I had great amounts of fun with it. The small mushrooms are easy to ignore and it doesn't bother me.

Then Beta 1.8 came, and added huge mushrooms, but it was fine because you actually had to make them yourself and as long as I didn't do anything, it's fine. It was still kind of difficult to play with friends, because they either made H.M (i'll use this abbreviation from now on) because they didn't know of my phobia, or because they knew it and wanted to fuck with me. I pretty much stopped playing multiplayer and stopped watching let's plays because of my phobia.

In 1.0 (or Beta 1.9, like it was called "back in my day") they naturally generated in their own biome, but it was so rare so I kept playing anyway.

I kept playing until 1.4, and I stopped playing because I got bored of the game. I came back a few days before 1.10 and I ask my girlfriend what has happened since. She says, to my despair that those things now naturally generate, in her favorite biome, roofed forest. I told her of my phobia, and to my surprise she didn't laugh at me.

I can seriously not play singleplayer anymore, because of my fear. I have to have her play with me so I won't stumble into any mushrooms, but it's still really difficult because she has to do the exploring, which I can imagine is a burden.

So what I ask is; are there any mods for this?

And if there aren't, this may be too much to ask for but; could any of you guys make one?

TL;DR: I'm a mycophobic that can't play this wonderful game because of huge mushrooms. How do you remove them?

VRLA: Where Hollywood Goes To VR

VRLA’s Summer Expo was the biggest they had ever had; by their own measurements there were over 6,000 attendees and they actually had to turn the event into a two-day experience. I attended the VRLA Summer Expo last weekend, and I gained some valuable insights about where VR content is going and where VR content is moving. The show kicked off with a series of major announcements including the VRLA founders announcing their own project’s release which is a VR movie creator called Mindshow that allows creators to import assets into VR and create VR movies.
