Here’s How Nokia Can Gain From Its Launch Of Connected Health Devices In India

Withings, a company recently acquired by Nokia , has launched a range of connected health devices in India, including fitness watches and Wi-Fi scales. Apart from activity trackers, Withings launched a home HD camera with baby monitoring features, a wireless blood pressure monitor and a device which allows users to monitor and improve their sleeping experience. While Nokia’s acquisition of Withings was aimed at establishing itself as a key player in the connected health devices market, India holds strong growth potential in this segment. With a large population and strong economic growth, the personal healthcare segment is witnessing tremendous growth in the country. Wearable health leader Fitbit entered India in the middle of 2015 to tap into this market and now commands the highest market share in terms of value, while players such as Xiaomi and GOQii dominate the market in terms of volume. Nokia is an established brand in the country. Through this launch. it can get a head start in the higher priced fitness trackers segment, which is currently at a nascent stage with Fitbit being the only real competitor.

The ‘Other’ Human Influences On The Maryland Floods You May Overlook

If you didn’t see the floods in Maryland this weekend, they were were “OMG” and “what the heck is going on” bad.  In Ellicott City, Maryland, a suburb west of Baltimore, 5.52 inches of rain fell over a 90-minute period according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Nearly half (3.16 in) of the storm’s total rainfall (6.50 in) fell in the first 30 minutes. As predictable as the sunrise, there will be the usual banter by the “what is the role of climate change” crowd and the “floods always happened” crowd. I review some of the current science of extreme rainfall – climate change attribution but that is not my point herein. My goal is to discuss 2 overlooked ways human-activity affect these floods: urban impervious surface and storm water management systems.

Meet Pegg, The Bot That Will File Your Expenses

What has Apple’s Siri ever done for you? Well, probably quite a bit actually, just like the Romans in the famous Monty Python sketch. But has Siri ever filed an expense claim for a meal you’ve just eaten, filled in the form for the petrol you put in your car or checked whether an invoice has been sent or paid?
Fear not, says accounting software firm Sage. Pegg will do it.
