Corning’s Earnings To Remain Depressed But Sales May Increase Sequentially

Corning (NYSE: GLW) will announce its Q2 2016 earnings results on Wednesday, July 27th. Corning’s Q1 2-16 sales declined by 10.7% year-on-year due to lower volume and pricing in display technologies, foreign currency translation losses, and the software implementation issue in its optical communications department. We expect that the company’s core sales, including Display Technologies, Optical communications and Specialty materials, grew sequentially in Q2 2016, driven by improvement in overall glass and specialty material markets. However, we may see a year-on-year decline in the volume of Optical Communications, as the prior year quarter included some service oriented business that did not repeat. Additionally, the software implementation issue may have had some impact on Q2 sales as well. The only segment where we are expecting a decline sequentially for Corning is Environmental Technologies, as the heavy duty truck market, which was declining for the last few quarters, did not show any signs of improvement in Q2.

Can Twitter’s New Marketing Strategy Drive User Growth?

Recently, Twitter rolled out a new marketing strategy which includes videos explaining what Twitter stands for, distinguishing it from other social media platforms. This effort stems from the company’s research which revealed that, while 90% of people globally recognized the Twitter brand but did not use the site because they misunderstood what Twitter is. The company is now looking to change the perception of Twitter from being a social network enabling users to connect with family and friends to being the “go to” place for all news updates. Twitter is positioning itself as a unique platform where news ranging from big events to local updates along with live commentary can be accessed. We believe that, as a decade-old company that is struggling to grow its user base, a marketing strategy that highlights its uniqueness can attract more users to its platform.

Strange Generation via /r/Minecraft

Strange Generation

I have seen a lot of pretty strange generation, especially when dealing with structures like Villages, here and in my own worlds. However, as I understand it, structures generate on world generation (The initial startup).

So, I logged in to my world today, to discover a fragment of a village spawning into an area where no such village existed before. How is this possible? Is this a bug? I have had it happen once before, though it was minor and I thought I was just imagining things. This is a world that was based off of an inputted seed, it is also a recreated world.

Here is what I entered my world to. I do not have a before image, but it overwrote some farmland, a path, and the ocean.

Seed- 5307084790453060956 I am also running a few Gamemode 4 modules, namely the armor weight and the path ones, if that means anything as well.

For Startups, Raising Money Is Eight Times Easier In The Bay Area

Some startups find their beginnings organically, getting built slowly from years of effort. These kinds of companies can be anywhere, and they often are. Startups kindled with the intent of rapid iteration and quick growth, however, tend to be clustered in the kinds of places we expect: San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, New York, Boston, etc.
