Every week we cover new Android apps with Fresh Meat on Wednesday, followed by Android Gaming on Thursday and Top 10 App Updates on Friday. When Monday rolls around, we look back to see which apps were the most appealing to our audience. Read on for the five most popular Android apps from last week. These apps are ones that are most likely new and haven’t appeared in the top five list more than three times.

Leaked LG G5 diagram shows off redesign in the upcoming flagship

The LG G5 is a hot topic, which should be expected based on the device the rumors that are surrounding it. And if a leaked image supposedly showcasing the redesigned hardware is any indication, there’s certainly quite a bit to look forward to.

That is, unless you like the volume buttons being on the backside of the device. According to the image, which was supplied to Android Authority by Shai Mizrachi, LG has opted to move the volume buttons from the back of the handset, where they have been positioned in the last few G-branded devices, over to the left side edge. There doesn’t appear to be a power button on the right side, though, which has many speculating that that particular button is still positioned on the back cover.

And that’s where the fingerprint reader is said to be as well, in the same spot where we’ve seen it implemented on other devices in the past, including LG’s Nexus 5X. The new G5 is actually thinner than the G4 from last year, with the diagram showing a phone that measures in at 149.4 x 73.9 x 8.2mm (the G4 had a thickness of 9.8mm).

The thinness of the G5 would lend credence to the past rumor that LG has implemented a slide-out design for the replaceable battery in the upcoming flagship, something that this report corroborates as well.

The diagram also seems to point out that the screen will be edge-to-edge, and previous rumors have suggested it will measure in at 5.6 inches and have a QHD resolution.

The LG G5 is certainly sounding like it will be an exciting handset for 2016. The Life’s Good crew is expected to announce the device on February 21 at Mobile World Congress 2016.

OTG: conoce las funciones del gran olvidado de Android

Una de las funciones más interesantes pero menos usadas en Android es la conectividad OTG. Quizás nunca hayas oído hablar de ella, o no sepas para qué funciona. En este artículo te lo vamos a explicar y te aclararemos cuales son algunas de sus funciones más interesantes y prácticas. ¡Vamos allá!

USB OTG: ¿qué es y cómo funciona?

Hace un tiempo nuestros compañeros en el Androide Libre daban una buena deficinión del OTG.

El OTG o USB OTG (On-The-Go), es una extensión de USB 2.0 que permite a los dispositivos con puertos USB más flexibilidad en la gestión de dicha conexión. O lo que es lo mismo (y hablando rápido y mal), poder conectar cualquier dispositivo mediante USB a nuestro smartphone o tablet. Ya sea una cámara digital, un pendrive, un módem USB, un teclado, un ratón, etc.

Por desgracia, en muchas ocasiones el fabricante no nos informa sobre cómo usar esta tecnología. Es por ello que recopilaremos aquellas funciones que te pueden resultar más interesantes. Antes de nada debes informarte de si tu dispositivo dispone o no de este tipo de tecnología. Por lo general las gamas más bajas no lo suelen incorporar.

Consumo multimedia: Olvídate de la microSD

Películas, bibliotecas musicales, archivos de trabajo… Son algunos de los archivos que tanta memoria ocupan y que no queremos borrar aunque no los utilicemos. El uso del OTG aquí puede ser crucial, gracias a él podremos acceder al contenido que deseemos de manera puntual.

Lo único que necesitaremos es un buen explorador de archivos. Desde aquí recomendamos ES File Explorer. Este nos permitirá acceder a nuestras carpetas internas de una manera muy visual y sencilla. Si tienes permisos root podrás habilitar funciones extra para acceder a todos los contenidos de tu smartphone.

Realizar copias de seguridad

Hacer un backup es un proceso simple, pero que ocupa una gran cantidad de almacenamiento. Gracias al OTG podrás realizar todas tus copias de seguridad dejando espacio libre en tu teléfono. Lo único que necesitarás es un pendrive con almacenamiento suficiente para todos tus datos.

Productividad con tu smartphone: conecta un ratón o teclado

Instala tu ROM favorita sin problemas de espacio

Es posible rootear tu terminal sin usar un ordenador. También puedes meterle un recovery desde el mismo teléfono, pero ¿a que te gustaría bajarte una ROM personalizada sin ocupar espacio? Gracias al OTG esto es posible.

Simplemente debes seleccionar como directorio de descargas externas el almacenamiento OTG. Una vez tengas la ROM descargada en tu pendrive podrás instalarla desde el almacenamiento externo uses el recovery que uses. Esto permitirá una instalación limpia, sin archivos residuales y haciendo que el archivo de la ROM no ocupe espacio.

Resumiendo

El OTG es una función muy interesante que nos brinda Android y a la que deberías sacar todo el partido posible. Desde Andro4all te enseñamos a liberar espacio de forma rápida, pero en ocasiones esto no es suficiente. Recurrir al OTG puede librarte de algún que otro quebradero de cabeza.

BlackBerry Priv landing in India on January 28

BlackBerry’s debut Android smartphone Priv will be launched in India towards the end of this month – January 28 to be precise. The Canadian company has sent out invitations for the launch event that will be held in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

There was, however, no word on the price tag the handset will carry in India. Over in the US, it carries a tag of $699, while in Europe it is officially selling for €779.

This comes shortly after BlackBerry expanded Priv’s availability to France. Just days prior to that, the smartphone landed in some other European markets, including Italy, the Netherlands, and…

Sony calienta motores para el MWC 2016

Sony no destacó especialmente a lo largo de la última edición del CES de Las Vegas. La división de móviles del fabricante japonés pasó bastante desapercibida durante esta importante feria electrónica, algo a lo que no nos tiene acostumbrados. Pero parece que las cosas cambiarán durante el MWC 2016.

Como bien sabréis el próximo 22 de febrero dará pistoletazo de salida la mayor feria de telefonía a nivel mundial y Sony no se iba a perder un evento de tal calibre. Eso sí, nos hará madrugar ya que el mismo día 22 de febrero a las 08:30 ha programado un evento donde mostrará alguna que otra sorpresa.

¿Cuáles serán las novedades de Sony en esta edición del Mobile World Congress?

La invitación que ha enviado el fabricante japonés no revela absolutamente nada de lo que van a presentar por lo que lo único que podemos hacer ahora mismo es especular sobre con qué nos va a intentar sorprender esta vez, aunque es evidente que será algo relacionado con la telefonía.

Ahora pasemos a divagar un poco: en el Mobile World Congress del año 2013, Sony presentó su tablet Xperia Tablet Z, el primer dispositivo de este tipo con resistencia al polvo y al agua. Al año siguiente fue el Xperia Z2 el terminal estrella. Y por último tenemos la última edición, durante el Mobile World Congress 2015, cuando el fabricante en este caso se trajo el Xperia M4 Aqua y una versión renovada de su tablet Xperia Z.

Si tenemos en cuenta además que durnate la pasada edición de la IFA de Berlín Sony presentó nueva generación de dispositivos Xperia, igual que en años anteriores, podemos esperar que esta presentación será bastante descafeinada. Igual Sony presenta esta vez una nueva tablet, por que dudo mucho que presenten un nuevo teléfono. Aunque de Sony te puedes esperar cualquier cosa.
