Oppo has big plans for MWC, teaser reveals

With Mobile World Congress now being less than one month away, the companies that are going to participate are starting their respective teaser campaigns for their events in Barcelona. Case in point – Oppo. The Chinese smartphone maker has not only talked about a new F1 Plus model at the launch of the F1 in India, but it’s also released its first teaser for MWC.

You can see that image to the left, but even more important is the PR text that accompanied it. Oppo says we should expect it to unveil a couple of big things at MWC.

First off, a “groundbreaking power solution” is mentioned, obviously without any additional details that could help us discern what this might be – it is, after all, just a teaser.

What’s also coming in February from Oppo is “an unprecedented smartphone camera innovation”. Here too the wording is vague enough that it could mean anything – software, hardware, or even a mix of the two.

Clearly though the company thinks you should get excited about these innovations it plans to bring forth. Together, these are said to “offer tomorrow’s consumers a reinvigorated user experience”. Perhaps Oppo will elaborate on these things somewhat in subsequent teasers in the coming…

Downwell, el mejor juego arcade de 2015 llega por fin a Android

Ojiro, un desarrollador de videojuegos independiente, revolucionó el año pasado la escena indie con su primer proyecto serio; Downwell. Acogido por Devolver Digital (Hotline Miami, Double Barrel…) que actuó como distribuidor, este título fue una gran sorpresa, y, dió un gran golpe sobre la mesa, siendo el juego del año para muchos entusiastas del medio y miembros de la prensa especializada.

No fue tanto porque un juego tan “tapadillo” estuviese en el ojo de todos, si no porque es un título cuya principal característica no es una excelente historia, gráficos increíbles o mecánicas innovadoras, sino, la fórmula arcade perfecta. Un gameplay tan sólido y adictivo que debería estar prohibido por ser considerado una droga.

Afortunadamente, y, tras una larga espera, el título ha llegado a Android. Se supone que iba a salir a finales de octubre del año pasado, pero no sabemos como, se ha retrasado durante todo este tiempo hasta ahora.

La receta de la diversión

En Downwell, nuestro objetivo es muy simple. Debemos llegar al fondo de un profundo pozo, ayudado por nuestras gunboots (botas pistola), pero no será nada fácil. Nuestro camino hacia lo desconocido, estará obstaculizado por diferentes criaturas que nos harán la vida imposible.

Podría tirarme horas hablando de lo increíble que es su kinestésica o de lo interesante que es el sistema de combos, o el cambio de armas que no insta a cambiar para adaptarnos a todos los estilos de juego, pero prefiero recomendarte que lo compres cuanto antes y descubras todo esto por tí mismo.

Su diseño artístico, se integra perfectamente con el juego, y nos ayuda con su uso del color a entender rápidamente lo que está pasando en pantalla, además, su estilo low pix pixel art resalta con fluidez gracias a los 60 fps a los que funciona el juego incluso en dispositivos más humildes.

Specs leak for the HTC One M10; this year’s smartphone to beat?

HTC has had a rough time over the past couple of years. The company has struggled financially for quite some time, but it looked to be on the road to recovery after launching the oft-praised HTC One M7. The company followed that success up with the One M8, another hit. But last year’s HTC One M9 was a miss for the company, failing to move forward in any substantial way.

This year, HTC looks to be coming out swinging with the upcoming HTC One M10. The device will reportedly be one of HTC’s most advanced devices to date, and a new specs leak from VentureBeat appears to confirm that.

HTC is reportedly packing the One M10 with a 5.1-inch QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display, making it the first HTC global flagship to feature a QHD display. In terms of horsepower, the One M10 will reportedly utilize Qualcomm’s powerful new Snapdragon 820 process paired with an Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the prototype device in question had 23GB of usable storage, indicating a storage capacity of at least 32GB.

The One M10 also reportedly features a fingerprint scanner built into a physical home button. Unfortunately, we still can’t be too sure about the design, as the leaker declined to comment on the design, aside from mentioning that the device no longer features front-facing BoomSound speakers, which will be a disappointment to many HTC fans. The leaker also mentioned that the design may be subject to change, so take potential design leaks with a grain of salt.

While HTC has swung back and forth with its camera technology, the company looks to be returning to its homegrown UltraPixel technology for the One M10. UltraPixels, of course, are intended to improve low-light performance, though their effectiveness has been somewhat debated. The device will reportedly feature a 12-UltraPixel rear camera with laser autofocus. Additionally, both the front and rear cameras on the One M10 will utilize optical image stabilization, helping to avoid shaking in video and low-light.

As it currently stands, HTC looks to have a very strong device on its hands. We can’t predict the future, but from how it sounds, it seems that HTC could have a winner, potentially turning the company around if it’s marketed correctly.

HTC reportedly won’t be announcing the One M10 at Mobile World Congress. Instead, the company is planning to wait and announce the device at its own event later in the spring. Until then, we’ll continue to keep you up to date on the latest HTC One M10 rumors.

Los 7 smartphones Android más esperados de 2016

El año 2015 no ha sido uno de los mejores años para el mundo de la telefonía, ya sea por falta de innovación, falta de ventas, o problemas de seguridad y calentamiento. El MWC de Barcelona está a la vuelta de la esquina, y en esta feria mundial de tecnología, las marcas tienen una posibilidad para lanzar sus apuestas para este año 2016 y aprender de sus errores, mientras que otras compañías, preferirán esperar a ver como evoluciona el mercado antes de presentar sus nuevos dispositivos en otros eventos.

En este artículo, hablaremos sobre cuáles son los smartphones más esperados para este año 2016, además de los rumores y filtraciones que han ido apareciendo hasta ahora sobre las características y fechas de lanzamiento de cada terminal.

LG G5

Uno de los smartphones de los que más detalles se han filtrado con el paso del tiempo, también es uno de los más esperados del año Después de la pequeña decepción con el LG G4, aún siendo un muy buen terminal, y con el buen sabor de boca que está dejando el LG V10, esperamos que LG se recupere de las pérdidas que anunció hace unos días con este nuevo tope de gama que será presentado en el MWC.

Si analizamos las características filtradas, nos encontramos con las siguientes especificaciones: Procesador Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 4 GB de RAM, pantalla de 5,7 pulgadas (suponemos que IPS y 2k), doble cámara trasera, sensor de huellas, y un diseño bastante innovador que incluiría una ranura mágica y la capacidad de retirar la batería por la parte inferior del dispositivo.

Otro de los más esperados para este año, después del triunfo de su antecesor el pasado año 2015, Samsung intentará batir récords de ventas con su nuevo buque insignia, del que también sabemos bastantes detalles, y que será presentado el día 21 de febrero.

Si nos fijamos en las características rumoreadas, podemos ver que el nuevo S7 contaría con un diseño bastante parecido al de su antecesor, pero con las novedades de la inclusión de ranura para microSD y resistencia al agua IP67, además de las siguientes especificaciones: Pantallas de 5,1 y 5,7 pulgadas para las diferentes variantes, cámara principal de 12 megapíxeles, ranura dual SIM híbrida, procesador Snapdragon 820 o un nuevo Exynos junto a 4 GB de RAM.

Xiaomi Mi 5

Al fin terminará la espera por la presentación de este smartphone del que llevamos sabiendo rumores desde hace más de un año, y que incluso se ha llevado alguna denuncia sin ni siquiera existir. Xiaomi ha querido cocinar este nuevo buque insignia a fuego muy lento para hacerlo competir contra los mejores del año 2016.

La presentación del dispositivo ha sido anunciada por el vicepresidente de Xiaomi, y será el día 24 de Febrero. Este nuevo terminal contará con unas especificaciones punteras entre las que encontramos una pantalla de 5,2 pulgadas QHD, con el procesador Snapdragon 820 y 4 GB de RAM, acompañado por una gran batería de 3600 mAh y un nuevo diseño metálico que incluirá lector de huellas en la parte delantera.

Sin duda uno de los dispositivos con mejores características de este inicio de año, y que podría ser una muy buena opción si Xiaomi sigue llevando a cabo su política de precios bajos.

HTC One M10

Parece que HTC no termina de remontar el vuelo, después de la decepción con el A9, la marca taiwanesa intentará mejorar sus ventas con un nuevo tope de gama, que no será presentado en el MWC 2016, y del cual el único detalle que conocemos, es que seguirá el mismo diseño que el HTC A9.

Esperamos que este nuevo terminal sea el estímulo que necesita HTC para poder volver de lleno al mercado, y aumentar de una vez sus ventas que tan perjudicadas se han visto en los últimos años.

Huawei P9

Huawei Mate 8 trasera

Huawei ha demostrado con su nuevo Mate 8 que no tiene nada que envidiar a los buque insignia de otras marcas más consolidadas, y con el nuevo P9, que según los rumores será presentado en marzo de este mismo año, intentará competir con los tope de gama fuera de la categoría phablet.

Aún son pocas las características filtradas sobre este terminal, pero podríamos afirmar que contará con cuatro variantes distintas y 6 GB de RAM, junto con el mismo procesador que su hermano mayor el Mate, un Kirin 950.

Sony Xperia Z6

Otro de los dispositivos que se podría presentar en el MWC 2016, el día 22 de febrero para ser más exactos, junto con las variantes Lite y Premium que Sony suele acompañar de su buque insignia convencional.

Aunque no sabemos mucho sobre este nuevo terminal, nos podemos imaginar que seguirá la línea de diseño que la marca nos tiene acostumbrados, e incluiría el nuevo procesador Snapdragon 820.

HTC Nexus

Oferta limitada del Nexus 5X y Nexus 6P de hasta 100 euros menos en su tienda oficial

Esta noticia nos pillaba por sorpresa hace unos días. Aunque no hace mucho tiempo que los dos nuevos Nexus fueron presentados, ya hay rumores sobre los nuevos dispositivos de Google, y es que podrían ser fabricados por HTC, un buen gesto por parte de Google hacia HTC, y que si este rumor fuese real, obligaría a la marca taiwanesa a esforzarse por mejorar los dos grandes terminales que se sacaron de la manga LG y Huawei con los modelos 5X y 6P.

Una nueva oportunidad para que HTC mejorase su situación y volviese a ser una de las marcas más icónicas en el panorama Android.

Apple issues voluntary recall of device chargers shipped from 2003 to 2015

Following in the footsteps of Microsoft, today Apple has issued its very own voluntary recall of AC wall adapters. However, in this case there seem to be a lot more units involved, because we’re talking about chargers having been packed with certain Macs, iOS devices, and also as part of the company’s World Travel Adapter Kit.

Apple says device chargers that it’s shipped with its products from 2003 to 2015 “may break and create a risk of electrical shock if touched”, but only “in very rare cases”. There’s some good news here, in that not all types of chargers are affected. The issue can manifest itself in those units designed for use in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina, and Brazil. Not affected are the chargers shipped with Apple products sold in the US, UK, China, and Japan.

The image above neatly sums up which exact models can suffer from this. And if you have such a charger, with two prong wall plug (one of the variations depicted above), then you can easily spot if yours needs replacing or not by whether it has 4 or 5 characters or no characters on the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter. The redesigned (and safe) models all have a three-letter regional code in there (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG, or BRA depending on location).

If you have one of the bad chargers, Apple will replace it with a good one for free. The procedure you need to follow for this to happen is outlined at the Source link below. T-Mobile adds four new services to Binge On, continues to defend it

T-Mobile is known for making controversial moves, but one that’s been garnering quite a bit of attention is Binge On. Binge On is T-Mobile’s program that allows customers to stream video from select sources without chewing into data allotments.

Today, T-Mobile announced that it’s adding four new service to Binge On. These video services include Amazon Video, Fox News, Univision NOW and WWE Network. Streaming video from these services will no longer impact data allotments.

Binge One has ruffled some feathers, however. One issue is that T-Mobile works to prevent network clogs by lowering the streaming quality of video services, even if they aren’t a part of Binge One. For example, Google found that T-Mobile was lowering the quality of YouTube streaming, even though YouTube isn’t a part of Binge On. To help avoid the negative impact, T-Mobile has introduced simple short codes to allow users to toggle whether Binge On is active or not. As such, users can enter a short code into their dialer to toggle the service on and off.

Here’s a list of the new short codes to change settings:

  • #BNG# (#264#) and hit send to check your Binge On settings
  • #BOF# (#263#) to toggle Binge On off
  • #BON# (#266#) to toggle Binge On on

The larger issue at hand is the threat that Binge On poses to net neutrality. T-Mobile has raised eyebrows on net neutrality before with services like Music Freedom, but Binge On continues the company’s trend. The company has drawn flack for its controversial moves against net neutrality, but as of right now, it doesn’t appear as though it’s planning to make any changes to its game plan.

OnePlus X now available invite-free, accessories on sale to celebrate

OnePlus is finally getting better at this whole making products available for customers to purchase when they want thing. It took them about 4 months after the release of the OnePlus 2 before it was available for general purchase, and now the OnePlus X joins it only about 3 months after its launch.

This comes less than a week after OnePlus pulled the lowest cost option OnePlus 2 in the US and Europe, which has created considerably more separation between the two options with the OnePlus X starting at $249/£199 versus $389/£289 for the lone OnePlus 2 configuration.

It’s worth noting that the OnePlus X isn’t terribly well suited to US customers given the lack of Bands 12 and 17, making it mostly a 3G-only affair for AT&T and T-Mobile customers.
