AMOLED displays are loved for their ability to render pitch black, but sometimes they go overboard. The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL may clip black levels, same as the Galaxy Note did years ago.
Cristian from the Windows Central forums has a detailed post and a test image to try on your phone. He even shot multiple images at different brightness settings.
The numbers indicate a gray RGB value (e.g. “12” is RGB 12-12-12). Most people report that anything below 3 is pure black and the 3 often has a tint (which can change depending on the screen mode). This issues affects all dark pixels, not just dark grey ones.

In some of these photos you can just barely see a faint 2 and the issue doesn’t seem connected to the Auto brightness feature. The effect is more noticeable when you bring the brightness slider below 100% though.
You can load this image on your Lumia 950 (or another AMOLED-packing phone) and go in a dark room. The ambient light sensor doesn’t affect the result, but the dark room will allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness and see the faint portions of the image.

As MWC 2016 draws closer and flagship season comes upon us we are already knee deep in rumors about the next line of high-end offers. Seeing how parts of the Samsung Galaxy S7 were recently spotted online, it comes as no surprise that we are starting to see more of the LG G5 as well.
A fresh set of photos claims to depict a hardware-reference LG G5 unit. The OEM made sure to hide as much of the design as it could, but the shot still provides some valuable insight into the upcoming flagship.
Straight off the bat, we see a double camera setup on the back, just as anticipated by various rumors. The main shooter is reported to be a 16MP one, while the secondary one has a resolution of 8MP. The most-likely usage scenario for the setup is advanced focus modes, although some clever exposure or low-light magic is also in the realm of possibility.
Examining the back further, we find a round fingerprint reader and not much else, which confirms that the back-mounted buttons might be going out of fashion. It would appear that other rumors of a streamlined metal design are also true.
Other controls, visible on the unit, include a tray in the bottom part of the right-hand side, It holds the SIM card and the SD card slots. There is a single speaker visible on the bottom of the phone, flanked by a microphone and a USB Type-C port. As for the other major rumor about the G5 and its alleged detachable bottom part and sliding battery mechanism, it is hard to judge from the pictures at hand. Even if the unit does have said functionality, its added plastic casing definitely prevents its usage.
As for other specs, the G5’s dimensions will allegedly be 149.4 x 73.9 x 8.2 mm. These make it taller yet narrower than its predecessor. Past rumors have talked about it featuring a 5.6-inch QHD touchscreen, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC and an 8 MP selfie snapper. The expected announcement date for the handset is February 21 at MWC in Barcelona.

De Lenovo tuvimos una mayor sorpresa este mes de enero cuando conocimos la llegada del Lemon 3. Un terminal que fue anunciado al día de que Xiaomi hiciera lo mismo con el Redmi 3. Si el Lemon 3 fue toda una gran sorpresa fue por sus características bien interesantes para un teléfono con un buen diseño y a un gran precio. Digamos que puede ser el teléfono que de momento ha sido capaz de acercarse a lo ofrecido por el Redmi 3 de Xiaomi. Todo un reto al que se afrenta esta compañía más conocida por sus ordenadores PC bajo Windows que por lanzar terminales en Android, aunque podría ser en este sector donde diese la sorpresa este año al tener una mayor presencia comercial que Xiaomi en todo el mundo.
Ahora nos trae otro teléfono de buenas características al anunciar el K5 Note, el sucesor del K4 Note que fue lanzado en la India no hace mucho después de que pasara por la certificación TENAA. Entre sus características más destacables cuenta con una pantalla de 5,5 pulgadas 1080p y Android 5.1 Lollipop, aunque lo que le diferencia del K4 Note es que tiene al procesador MediaTek Helio P10 de ocho núcleos u octa-core. Un teléfono que al cambio en yuanes llegará a los 167 dólares y que se presenta como otro de esos terminales a los que hay que tomar muy en cuenta por poseer un buen hardware, un buen diseño y un gran precio, las tres virtudes de ese batallón de terminales que están consiguiendo modelar el mercado de Android en todo el planeta.
Aparte de ese chip octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 y pantalla de 5,5 pulgadas 1080p, el Lenovo K5 Note cuenta con una cámara de 13 MP en la parte trasera con flash LED dual-tone, auto focus con detección por fases (PDAF) y una cámara frontal de 8 MP. A ese chip de ocho núcleos se le acompaña con una memoria RAM de 2 GB y 16 GB de memoria interna expandible mediante el uso de una micro SD de hasta los 128 GB.
En el diseño encontramos grandes detalles y un cuerpo completo en aluminio para los que busquen un terminal con un muy buen acabado. También posee sensor de huellas dactilares en la parte trasera que puede detectar huellas en tan solamente 0,3 segundos o 3 décimas.
Por lo que respecta al sonido tiene Dolby Atmos, unos altavoces potentes de 1.5w, un chip de audio dedicado y para terminar, soporte a dual SIM, conexión 4G con VoLTE y una batería de 3.500 mAh.
El Lenovo K5 Note llegará en los colores oro y plata y su precio oscila los 167 dólares al cambio. Está ya disponible para su reserva en China para que empiece a llegar a los clientes para el 31 de enero. Lo que desconocemos es su lanzamiento global, a lo que estaremos muy atentos, ya que estamos ante una compañía que está bien aposentada en nuestro país. Ahora será ver el precio en euros en el que llegaría este smartphone al igual que el Lemon 3.
Otra gran apuesta por parte de Lenovo en la que implica las tres mayores virtudes que ha de tener un teléfono a día de hoy: buen hardware, gran diseño y que no pase de los 200 dólares o euros. Con estas tres máximas se puede asegurar que recibirá la atención de muchos usuarios en todo el mundo.

Empezamos la semana con nuevos rumores sobre el nuevo buque insignia de Samsung para el año 2016, el Galaxy S7, y es que según PhoneArena, un supuesto empleado de Samsung ha revelado alguna información sobre este nuevo dispositivo “tope de gama”. Después de los rumores sobre como sería su diseño, y a solo un mes de su presentación en el Mobile World Congress de Barcelona, nos encontramos con nuevos detalles de este nuevo terminal.
Según el trabajador, el dispositivo se presentaría en diferentes versiones, todas ellas utilizando un chasis en color negro para darle un toque más premium, además de destacar en el apartado fotográfico gracias a su cámara de 12 megapíxeles con una apertura focal 1.7, lo que nos debería proporcionar unas mejores fotos nocturnas, de hecho, el empleado ha revelado que uno de los slogans de la presentación será “On the night” (Por la noche).
Parece que Samsung ha querido dejar de lado la cantidad de megapíxeles como ya adelantamos hace un tiempo, para centrarse en la calidad de la cámara, sin duda una buena noticia teniendo en cuenta el buen resultado que nos dio su antecesor.
El tamaño de la pantalla también es algo que cambiaría con respecto al Galaxy S6, pues según estos rumores habrá dos versiones, de 5,1 y 5,5 pulgadas para el S7 y S7 Edge respectivamente.
En esta filtración, también se indica que los nuevos dispositivos serán resistentes al agua y al polvo, aunque no se ha indicado el nivel de protección, una característica que nos sorprende, debido a que Samsung decidió no incluirla en el Galaxy S6, mientras que su antecesor, el S5, sí que la incluía.
Todas las versiones nos proporcionarán una ranura dual SIM híbrida, en la que podremos introducir dos tarjetas SIM, o una tarjeta SIM y una microSD, una de las características que los posibles compradores más agradecerán, ya que dará la oportunidad de gastar menos dinero en un dispositivo con menor memoria interna pero poder ampliarlo mediante una tarjeta.
La última información que ha proporcionado este supuesto empleado, es que este nuevo dispositivo se venderá en los siguientes colores: negro, white silver y dorado. Debemos esperar hasta el día 21 de Febrero en el MWC, para conocerlo todo sobre este nuevo dispositivo y saber si los rumores filtrados sobre el Samsung Galaxy S7 son reales.
