Would Competition Change the Process of Creating Sports Videogames?
Dating back as far as the fourth generation—or 16-bit era—of home console videogames, the annual new edition of sports franchises such as Madden, NBA 2K, FIFA and NHL have largely stuck to just that model. A one-year development cycle, strict release dates to coincide with the real life sport’s season opening and pressure from fans to be as “realistic” as possible while still remaining a “fun” videogame are just a few of the plates that creators are left spinning on their fingers.

LG’s new K7 arrives at Boost Mobile as the Tribute 5
Today Boost Mobile, one of Sprint’s prepaid brands, has added a new cheap smartphone to its roster. It’s called LG Tribute 5, but it’s actually just the recently announced K7 with a different name. The new K series is supposed to bring decent design and specs to very low price points according to LG.
The Tribute 5 comes with a 5-inch 480×854 IPS touchscreen, a couple of 5 MP cameras (one on the front, one on the back), Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210 chipset running the show (with a 1.1 GHz quad-core CPU), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, 4G LTE support, and a 2,125 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.
You can pick one up straight from Boost Mobile for only $99.99, and since this is a prepaid carrier there’s no need to sign a long-term contract. You can pair it with a plan that gives you unlimited talk and text as well as at least 2GB of data, starting at $30 per…

Zappos CEO Responds To Reports Of Mass Employee Departures After Radical Management Experiment
(Ferenstein Wire) — Zappos was blindsided with a slew of recent stories reporting that a new radical management experiment was backfiring, given that an (ostensibly) alarming 18% of its employees left the company since Spring. Initially, Zappos declined to comment for the New York Times story, but the meme spread throughout the business press (upwards of 19 major outlets by Google News’s latest count), from Fortune to the Wall Street Journal.
For the past two years, quirky culture enthusiast and Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh has fascinated the business press with his radical experiment in self-governing management. Early on, I did a feature on their so-called “Holacracy” management method, which abolishes traditional hierarchy and replaces “bosses” with an overlapping network of self-managed teams.
To briefly summarize, employees split their time between teams dedicated to everything that one could do for the company, from managing the lunch menu to marketing strategy. Once the Holacracy constitution is enacted, not even the person who was formerly considered the CEO (Hsieh) can overrule a team in charge of a particular project (more on that here).
The Ferenstein Wire reached out to Hsieh and his team for a response to the recent string of press and given my previous reporting, he agreed to answer questions via email. For the sake of transparency, I decided to paste much of the interview in their own words, in a Q&A format. So, below is our interview (edited for clarity and brevity).
(The full responses to all of the questions can be read here.)

What Freedom Really Means In Open Source
As the popularity of open source continues to spiral, soar and skyrocket, more than one C-suite executive will have sat back and asked: just how does this open source thing work anyway? Important distinctions have already been widely drawn to explain that where open source is free, we mean ‘free as in speech’ not ‘free as in beer’. The Free Software Foundation has famously clarified this point and said that because of this distinction, we sometimes call it ‘libre software’ to show we do not mean it is gratis.
