iPhone 5e now said to be the name of the next 4-inch Apple device

The next 4-inch smartphone made by Apple has been in the rumors for many months now, yet it still hasn’t become official. That may change in the next few weeks, however, if we go by some recent speculation.

One thing that’s been up for debate so far is what it’s going to be called. The oldest rumors have referred to it as the iPhone 6c, then some people started calling it iPhone 7c, and today a Chinese analyst says it will actually be neither of those.

According to this person, Apple will name its new 4-inch device iPhone 5e, where “e” is supposed to roughly stand for “enhanced”. This model will apparently be a slightly upgraded iPhone 5s, coming with support for Apple Pay, as well as VoLTE.

The main camera will reportedly be an 8 MP unit, while the SoC running things should be the A8, paired with 1GB of RAM. In China, the iPhone 5e is expected to cost CNY 3,288, which right now means $500 or €459.

Yahoo Considers Selling Its Internet Business

Yahoo! Inc.( NASDAQ:YHOO) is said to be considering the outright sale of its internet business, instead of spinning it off into a separate entity as put forward last month. Such a move would be the latest effort by management to unlock the value for its internet business. The market capitalization of Yahoo approximates the value of the sum of its cash and its equity holdings in Alibaba and Yahoo! Japan, suggesting a negative valuation for the core business. The company is under considerable pressure from investors to seek a remedy to this situation.

7 Ways Technology Is Fighting Human Trafficking

For many, the term “human trafficking” evokes images of perversions hidden in illicit underground markets of developing nations. Ironically, the demand of developed nations like the United States drive the illicit markets domestically and overseas, and as many as 300,000 American-born children are at risk of being sex trafficked within the United States each year. The average age of entry into the sex trade for domestic-born victims is 12 years old, down from 13 years old in years past. The demand for commercial sex acts with minors is not diminishing; rather, preferences for younger and younger boys and girls is pervasive.

Rumor: Amazon could be on the verge of launching a portable Echo

According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal today, Amazon is readying a more portable version of its Echo home assistant to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

If the report is to be believed, the new portable Echo will be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Instead of needing a wired power connection like the current Echo, the portable Echo would use a power dock to charge, with a button used to talk to the device as opposed to the current Echo’s always-on functionality.

While the Echo was launched as a sort of experimental beta device for Amazon, the Echo has become a surprise hit for the company. It’s unclear exactly how a portable Echo would function, but losing the ability to call out to Echo without having to provide any other sort of interaction, like a button press, would take away a bit of what makes Echo so convenient in the first place. If WSJ is right, we’ll know more shortly.

The current Amazon Echo is available for purchase now.
