Lenovo introduces ThinkPad X1 Yoga with OLED screen, new Carbon and Tablet
Lenovo unveiled a host of computers, the highlight of which is the ThinkPad X1 trio. It includes the flagship Carbon, the OLED-packing Yoga and the convertible Tablet.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
“The ultimate in go-anywhere Ultrabook,” says Lenovo about the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. It sports a 14″ display in a compact body, 16.5mm thick and weighing 1,2kg. Don’t confuse slimness for weakness though, the X1 Carbon fought through 12 MIL-SPEC tests, including surviving the transition from -20°C to +60°C.
The display is a 14″ IPS unit with either QHD or FullHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440px or 1,920px x 1,080px). Both are rated at 300nits. The laptop can be configured with up to Intel Core i7, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD. The battery is rated at 11 hours (52WHr).

On the connectivity side there’s 4G LTE-A, Wi-Gig (wireless TV out), Bluetooth 4.1 and 2 x Wi-Fi 802.11ac. For wired hook-ups you get three USB 3.0, HDMI, mini DisplayPort. A fingerprint reader is available for added security.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga carries roughly the same specs as the Carbon, but its hinge allows it to open beyond 180° and you get an integrated Stylus Pen plus software to handle old-school handwriting.

A unique option is the 14″ QHD AMOLED display with touch support. The alternatives are QHD IPS LCD (no touch) and 1080p IPS (with touch), all three match at 300 nits brightness. Other configuration options include up to Core i7, 16GB of RAM and 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD.
The connectivity features are the same down to the LTE-A modem, but the laptop is a hair thicker and heavier – 16.7mm (17mm for OLED) and 1.29kg.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet
The Yoga can be used a tablet, but Lenovo also has an actual tablet – the ThinkPad X1 Tablet. It comes with a full-size ThinkPad keyboard, including the trackpoint. There’s a Stylus Pen as well.
The X1 Tablet is smaller – 12″ IPS display with 2,160 x 1,440px resolution. It measures 13m thick and weighs 795g without the keyboard, 1.1kg with it (and thickness doubles to 26mm).

The ThinkPad X1 Tablet is powered by a Core m7 processor, but you can still get up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD (not NVMe though). The battery is rated at 5 hours for the tablet alone, 10 hours with the keyboard and the optional productivity module can add another 5 hours.

Camera-focused Oppo F1 launching this month, more F-series to follow
Oppo announced today it will launch a new camera-focused F series of smartphones in 2016. “The F series is rooted in a growing global demand for premium-quality mobile photography experiences, and in research that has indicated a strong consumer recognition that OPPO shoots great photos,” the press release said.
It was also revealed that the first device – dubbed Oppo F1 – in the mid-range series will be launched in January and will be made available in many markets across the globe. While the exact specifications and the price of the handset weren’t revealed, rumors say the F1 would be the international variant of the mid-range Oppo A53, which features a 13MP/5MP camera combo.

Android Auto finally coming to 2016, 2017 Fords
If you already own or are planning to buy a new Ford, you’ll soon be able to fire up Android Auto using Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system. Ford has announced that Ford Sync 3 on its 2017 models will come with Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay pre-installed. The 2017 Ford Escape will be the first vehicle from Ford to show up on its show floors with Android Auto this spring. Ford’s 2016 models which are already on the road and have Sync 3 will receive the Android Auto update “later in the year.”
For those who are not familiar with Android Auto, the platform allows you to interact with specific Android apps on your Android phone through the car’s touch screen. There are a few after-market Android Auto systems on the market, but Google focus has been to work with auto manufacturers to have Android Auto as an additional layer on top of their standard in-car entertainment and navigational system. The Android Auto platform has received a few minor updates since it was introduced nearly 18 months ago, but Google is expected to release significant functionality enhancements later in 2016.

Samsung announces HW-K950 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos
Samsung has announced a new soundbar at CES – the HW-K950 Soundbar – capable of supporting Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos, for those unaware, is Dolby’s latest audio system that moves away from traditional channel based production and playback and also incorporates ceiling mounted speakers for additional immersion.
With the HW-K950 Soundbar, Samsung has a traditional soundbar with three forward facing drivers and two upward facing drivers that bounce the sound off the ceiling. In addition, there are also two wireless surround speakers that project sound from behind you and also bounce two additional channels of sound from the top. This, coupled with the wireless subwoofer gives you 5.1.4 channels of surround sound (home theater implementation of Dolby Atmos has channel system for simplicity unlike the cinema hall implementation).
Samsung claims this will give an immersive sound experience with a minimal footprint in your room. As is usual for systems that bounce sound off the ceiling, it’s important to consider the height of your ceiling before investing in one. Se filtra una imagen del frontal del Samsung Galaxy S7 de 5,7″
A no tanto, de tener en nuestras manos las cuatro distintas variantes del Galaxy S7 de Samsung, como son las dos con pantallas planas y esas dos con las curvas, no pararemos en las próximas semanas de conocer todas las novedades, filtraciones y características de cada una de ellas cuando finalmente sean presentadas en el Mobile World Congress 2016. Una cita ineludible para esto de los nuevos teléfonos y tablets que aparecerán desde una gran variedad de fabricantes y que Samsung utilizará para presentar las mayores novedades en torno a sus gamas alta que volverán a convertirse en objetos de deseo tal como ha ocurrido con el Galaxy S6 el año pasado.
Justamente ayer conocimos lo que sería la parte frontal del nuevo Galaxy S7 en su versión estándar de 5,2 pulgadas, y ahora tenemos una nueva imagen que revela las especificaciones del Galaxy S7 en su versión de 5,7. Esta imagen también muestra al propio teléfono con su pantalla curva tan característica, lo que nos lleva directamente al Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Plus con una resolución en pantalla de 1440 x 2560 y que sigue abriendo el camino para el lanzamiento de estas cuatro variantes para el mes de febrero. Cuatro variantes que conformarán un gran repertorio de teléfono y que se lo pondrá bien difícil al consumidor final.
Confirmando el chip Snapdragon 820
En esta nueva imagen, aparte de poder ver de pasada el frontal del Galaxy S7 Edge Plus, también confirma lo que sería la llegada del chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, en el que se incluye la potente GPU Adreno 530, y al que se le acompañará con 4 GB de RAM. Aparte de estas características, que serán las principales virtudes para mostrar todo el potencial de este teléfono en lo que es la potencia de procesado y gráfica, aparece lo que sería la cámara frontal de 5 MP y una cámara trasera de 12 MP.
No fue hace mucho, cuando tuvimos la información sobre una posible nueva cámara de 12 MP en la que estaba trabajando el fabricante coreano y en el que el sensor era de mayor tamaño, lo que significa que podrá tomar imágenes de mayor calidad. Aquí vemos como el no tener un mayor número de megapíxeles ,significa que no tenga gran calidad las fotografías, sino que depende de la calidad de la lente en definitiva.
Así que en este sentido, Samsung podría incluir la cámara de 12 MP en el nuevo Galaxy S7, lo que quitaría de la ecuación esa serie de rumores que indicaban que el sensor IMX300 de Sony sería el implementado en el nuevo Galaxy S7.
Un año difícil para Samsung
Samsung está poniendo toda la carne en el asador con la renovación de la serie A y estas cuatro variantes que intentarán posicionarse como lo mejor del mercado. El problema para Samsung y otros fabricantes es que son muchos los usuarios que han pasado de adquirir gama alta para adentrarse en unos rangos de precio que van desde los 150-300€. Ya hemos hablado largo y tendido sobre este mercado bien complicado y en el que los smartphones que llegan desde China, como son esos Xiaomi que tienen a los sitios web online como sus mayores distribuidores, y aquellos que se comercializan por propios fabricantes como son Huawei, se lo están poniendo bien difícil a fabricantes como Samsung que siempre imponen precios muy altos.
Tienen el mejor hardware, y esto lo veremos en los nuevos Galaxy S7 y Galaxy S7 edge, pero ya no es esa mayor diferencia a la que eran unos años cuando eran los plenos dominadores del mercado. Es la propia Samsung la que se encuentra cauta ante un año 2016, donde van a tener que luchar lo suyo para seguir estando en pie y posicionados como uno de los que más venden. Una lucha que no saben si van a ganar o si van a salir victoriosos, de ahí sus dudas y temores en estos primeros días de 2016.
