The big Android 6.0 Marshmallow update list: Start of 2016 edition

People increasingly care about software updates – in part because they want to get the new features, but security is becoming a more and more important topic. The Nexus devices (well, the ones from 2013 and later anyway) and Android One are a given.

Here’s the scorecard for devices that are not directly backed by Google but have been confirmed to get the latest version of its mobile platform. Keep in mind that this list includes only devices that have been officially confirmed to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Some other devices are likely to get it too, some most likely won’t, but those aren’t on the list.

This is the official list as of the start of 2016, though not that some of these updates won’t roll out for several months (and some are already available).

PIXI 4, la nueva línea de smartphones de Alcatel OneTouch que se anunciarán en el CES 2016

Quedan pocos días para la celebración de la primera feria de tecnología de este año que acabamos de empezar. Estamos hablando del CES que se celebra en Las Vegas, EEUU y que empezará su andadura a partir del Miércoles 6 de Enero. Justamente en este evento, muchas empresas tecnológicas presentan algunas de las novedades que llegarán a partir del próximo año. Alcatel OneTouch será una de las empresas que estarán presentes en la feria y anunciará una línea nueva de smartphones.

La nueva línea de smartphones llamada PIXI 4, incluyen cuatro dispositivos, cada uno de diferente tamaño de pantalla. Así pues, Alcatel presentará en los próximos días, un smartphone de 3’5 pulgadas, otro de 4 pulgadas, un phablet de 6 pulgadas y por último una tableta inteligente de 7 pulgadas.

El fabricante está promoviendo estos dispositivos como dispositivos premium de nivel de entrada, con una gran experiencia de usuario e incluyendo características importantes en su terminales, como pueden ser el diseño, el sonido, la cámara o la duración de la batería de sus futuros dispositivos, tal y como publica el blog AndroidHeadLines.

PIXI 4, la nueva familia de Alcatel

Como hemos comentado anteriormente, el fabricante pregona que la nueva familia PIXI 4 ofrece a los clientes, el mejor diseño y el mejor conjunto de características en el mercado a nivel de entrada que existe actualmente en el mercado móvil. Por el momento poca cosa más conocemos al respecto de estos terminales, así que deberemos esperar a que Alcatel OneTouch presente oficialmente sus dispositivos durante el CES 2016.

Por otra parte, el fabricante ha anunciado hoy un reloj dedicado al sector infantil. Bajo el nombre de CareTime, se esconde un wearable pensado para niños que ayudará a más de un padre descuidado o para evitar algún que otro susto en algún despiste. Este reloj, ofrece conexión 2G o velocidad EDGE, lo justo y necesario para el funcionamiento del dispositivo. Entre las funcionalidades del dispositivo, vemos como el CareTime, es capaz de enviar mensajes de voz a un terminal, recibir llamadas, llamar a unos números pre-registrados anteriormente en el dispositivo, tener en todo momento localizado el reloj gracias a la incorporación del sensor GPS, entre otras características importantes.

Tanto el wearable para niños como la nueva línea de dispositivos PIXI 4 de Alcatel, estarán presentes en el CES de Las Vegas de la próxima semana. Estaremos atentos a todo lo que suceda en los pabellones del recinto para descubrir nuevos productos no rumoreados así como conocer con más profundidad estos nuevos dispositivos de los que hemos hablado hoy.

Nexus users running Marshmallow facing Google sync issues

Nexus users running Android 6.0 and above are reporting Google sync issues on their device. The issue causes apps like Gmail, Inbox, etc. from not syncing in the background, causing the owners to miss email notifications.

The issue seems widespread enough, with a thread on Nexus forum and AOSP issue tracker each, and several people reporting seeing the issue on their device. Google employees have been made aware of the issue, and are working on it.

Some have observed that the issue could be due to the Doze feature in Android Marshmallow, which suspends certain tasks in the background while the device is motionless to save battery. Excluding these apps from the Doze list does seemingly solve the issue for some.
