The Only Smartphone Market Apple’s iPhone 6S Needs To Dominate

Android dominates the volume-based market share charts, but Apple’s smartphone plans have never been about volume, it’s been about revenue and profit. Performing well purely in the premium phone market not only offers Apple a number of monetary benefits, but it also allows the company to squeeze Android manufacturers and restrict their options to fight the iPhone juggernaut.

Nexus team members hit Reddit for an AMA on Nexus 5X and 6P

A few members of the Nexus team — Hiroshi Lockheimer, David Burke, Krishna Kumar and Sandeep Waraich — took to Reddit a few hours ago to answer those burning questions everyone had about the new Nexus devices.

There are over 1900 comments in total, so there’s a good chance that if you had a question about either of the new devices, it might be in there.

We’ll give you some of the highlights here, but again click through the link below if you want to read the full list.

The question as to why wireless charging was left out this time around was one of the most popular. They attributed it to the ease of plugging in USB Type-C (no more which way is up?), the speed of charging with USB Type-C and finally that wireless charging added thickness to the device that they felt could be avoided.

Another popular question was regarding why the Nexus 5X still starts at 16GB. There was the serious answer, “strike a blance between premium features/experiences and affordability.” and then a less serious answer “It’s a conspiracy! MOVE TO THE CLOUD!”. You’ll have to decide which is more plausible. The serious answer was later applied again in response to why just 2GB of RAM in the 5X.

Details on the actual panel used in the 6P were asked for and the team produced that it was the latest generation panels from Samsung. Specifically it is a Samsung WQHD AMOLED panel and they were quite proud of the “very tight spec” that they created for it.

The mystery of what the X and the P stand for is solved, “X for the core of the Nexus Brand (plus it sounds cool!), P for premium.”

For T-Mobile Nexus hopefuls the team confirmed that they are working hard to get Band 12 support on Nexus devices before they ship.

The team also confirmed that both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P support only USB 2.0 speeds and not USB 3.1 as some were reporting at the event.

Another excellent question was how Imprint keeps the fingerprints safe. They are stored on the device and processed in the “secure Trustzone protected area of memory.” The API doesn’t provide access to the fingerprints to apps and they are not stored by Google. Imprint was also touted as one of the team members favorite new features.

Those were some of the most interesting questions and answers to us, but there are plenty more, so feel free to share any other juicy nuggets you dig up below.

¿Qué dispositivos Google Nexus podrán actualizar a Android 6.0 Marshmallow?

How The Discovery Of Water On Mars Might Make Life Possible Today

When we think about the ingredients necessary for life on Earth, liquid water is always right at the top of the list. Without it, there’s simply no good way to for transport of ions and molecules to occur. Sure, some other liquid might — in principle — be able to substitute for water, but nitrogen, carbon dioxide and methane don’t have that awesome polar structure that water has, which allows for such a wide variety of molecules to dissolve and be moved from one location to another.

BOXX Unveils Overclocked, Small Form Factor Professional Workstations

For some PC users, stock performance is never good enough. On the consumer side, that isn’t necessarily a problem, because overclocking is usually as simple as tuning a few options in a BIOS or dragging a couple of sliders within Windows—even without exotic cooling. In the professional workstation market, however, overclocking isn’t nearly as common.

Behind The Scenes Of ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s’ Orchestral Soundtrack

It’s an easy thing to forget, as your super-soldier sprints his way towards some massive exploding set piece, gruff men shouting all around him and the camera wrenching around for cinematic effect. We hear the orchestra swell in the background, but in order for that to happen, reaching some grand crescendo as you fend off cybernetic terrori, there had to be, at some point, an actual orchestra. Not one composed of rocket launching mechs and assault rifles, but a bunch of professional musicians, sitting in chairs and working their way through each bar. In the case of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, the musicians and their chairs sat in a converted church in Nashville, Tennessee, not too far from Music Row.

The American Academy Of Pediatrics Just Changed Their Guidelines On Kids And Screen Time

For years, the American Academy Of Pediatrics (AAP) has adopted an on/off switch mentality when it comes to children and screen time. They used to recommend that children, ages two and under, have absolutely no exposure to screens. For older kids, the AAP recommended limiting ‘screen time’ to just two hours a day. Now, the guidelines have been changed so that they reflect a more nuanced approach.
