Good Technology secure mobile solutions company will be joining the BlackBerry family

BlackBerry just struck a deal with the California-based Good Technology and will now be merging its mobile services into the already extensive enterprise suite. $425 million were apparently enough to snatch the mobile business, which has been an IPO candidate for quite some time now.

The deal is actually quite good and here is why. Good Technology is far from a household name, but it is a popular vendor of secure cross-platform mobile management solutions. Thus, the US company is actually offering similar services to BlackBerry’s enterprise suits, but with a cross-platform approach or what is known as a bring-your-own-device approach. Furthermore, Good Technology has been doing fairly well on the market with more than 6,200 organizations in over 190 countries using their services of which more than 50 are on the FORTUNE 100 list.

BlackBerry’s plan is to merge its existing portfolio of enterprise services and solutions with the ones from Good Technology. This way the Canadian tech giant hopes to modernize and broaden its enterprise secure communication offers, which were once undisputed in their total market domination, but have been suffering lately due to the growing popularity of Android and iOS. To quote BlackBerry’s own statement:

BlackBerry’s leadership in MDM, application management and secure connectivity combined with Good’s leadership in mobile containers, productivity suite, service management and SDKs will create a higher-value product stack with the capability to expand well beyond EMM collaboration and application enablement

This all sounds like a terribly complicated endeavor and it most certainly is, but if everything pans out the end result should be a powerful cross-platform suite that can easily manage Android, iOS, Windows, BlackBerry devices and more, complete with more than 2000 ISV and custom apps that Good currently has trough either in-house development or in its partner program. This also means that the existing client and partnership base will be transferred to BlackBerry as well to further strengthen in enterprise branch.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 landing on US Cellular September 11

Dicen que la primera impresión es lo que cuenta y la verdad es que en un dispositivo tan personal como un reloj esto se convierte en una verdadera máxima. Samsung fue uno de los primeros fabricantes que apostó por los wearables, presentando varias propuestas que combinaban formas y funcionalidades para intentar dar con el dispositivo perfecto. Pero lo tradicional parece que se ha terminado imponiendo en este caso, puesto que con el Samsung Gear S2, la compañía coreana vuelve a las formas más tradicionales de este habitual complemento.

Este dispositivo podría considerarse de segunda generación y en él vemos ya algunos cambios estéticos que resultarán muy interesantes. Principalmente estos se podrían resumir en una reducción general de las medidas, tanto de grosor como de diámetro, cosa que facilita mucho más su uso y permite que un público mucho más amplio pueda hacer uso de ellos. Otro aspecto muy criticado de los relojes inteligentes ha sido la batería, un lastre que ha hecho desistir a muchos de comprarse uno y que parece que poco a poco vamos a ver mejorada, como mínimo en lo que a autonomía se refiere.

Importante notar que vamos a encontrar dos versiones diferentes en el mercado, la que podríamos llamar “normal” y la “classic”. Las diferencias las encontraremos, nuevamente, principalmente en el apartado estético, con un aspecto más deportivo para el primero y, haciendo gala del nombre, algo más clásico en el segundo. Eso sí, algo que comparten ambas versiones y que los diferencia de muchas otras propuestas actuales es que no hará uso de Android Wear, sino que el fabricante coreano ha preferido incluir la última versión de su propio sistema operativo, Tizen.

En lo que a especificaciones se refiere, tendremos con una pantalla Super AMOLED de 1,2 pulgadas redonda con una resolución de 360 x 360 píxeles y 302 ppp. Un procesador Exynos 3250 de dos núcleos a 1 GHz y un Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 para el modelo 3G. Además, cuenta con una batería de 250 mAh, que aumenta a 300 mAh para el modelo 3G. Dispone de 512 MB de RAM, 4 GB de almacenamiento interno, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, NFC y resistencia al polvo y el agua con su certificación IP68, sumergible hasta un metro durante 30 minutos como máximo.
