The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimated that there were 6.9 million people supervised by adult correctional systems in the U.S. as of the end of 2013. And there are millions of people around the world that work in high risk locations such as military bases, correctional facilities, power plants and airports that depend on sensor technology to prevent intrusions and prison breaks. To keep these facilities secured, advancements in sensor technology has been a core focus for several companies.
To learn more about sensor technology and perimeter system development, I sat down with executives at Integrated Security Corporation in Novi, Michigan — including president John Hyland, engineering manager Bernie Malkowski and application specialist Christian Toma. The advantage of Integrated Security’s products is that each one offers high performance quality at a low cost. During the interview, they gave me a demonstration of Integrated Security’s Hydra asset protection system.
The Hydra asset protection system has a near zero false alarm rate because it uses a network of wireless mesh sensors that detects intruders using two independent sensing technologies in each sensor. Information is passed on to the Hydra Gateway and then to alarm relay modules, which can be connected to integrated intrusion detection systems, alarm panels or independent interfaces.

Amazon just beat Netflix at its own game. On Tuesday, Amazon announced that Prime subscribers will now be able to download television shows and movies via its streaming service to watch while offline on pretty much all mobile devices—something rival Netflix has failed to do.

Beacons have been generating buzz since 2013, when Apple first introduced iBeacon technology. And while it may have appeared for a time that this new way of connecting with customers might be slow to catch on, today it’s catching fire. This year began with BI Intelligence reporting that beacons would be driving $44 billion in retail sales by 2016, up from $4 billion this year. Then last month came the big news that Apple and IBM have teamed up on a host of new apps incorporating analytics and iBeacons. And just last week, Ad Age reported on the impending reinvention of retail by digital technology, as the physical and digital worlds converge in stores.

HTC (A9) Aero has been first teased by the company’s CEO Cher Wang back in June for an October release. He promised the investors back then an October flagship that will render their concerns for the future unnecessary.
Today we see another official teaser posted by HTC on its Weibo account. The teaser hits for a September 6 announcement and says we can expect a “superior handsome” flagship, if machine translation is to be trusted.
The Chinese text bellow was a tough one for Google Translate, but it says something about “the strength to fight bias”, and then about “simple color value”. If this means anything to you, please share it with us.
The (A9) Aero smartphone, also known as the HTC hero device, is rumored to pack a Quad HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 and 2.5D curved edges. The chipset in charge should be MediaTek Helio X20 with ten-core tri-cluster processor and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.
Unfortunately we won’t be tuning our hopes too high, as we saw a purported HTC Aero that looked a lot like an iPhone 6 Plus. This is surely not the way to fight bias, competition and tough quarter reports.
Anyway, HTC should be outing its hero device on September 6 and hopefully it will lead the way back up for the struggling manufacturer.
